참나무 크라프트 리그닌과 볏짚 아세토솔브 리그닌의 열-화학적 분해에 의한 방향족(Aromatic)과 지방족(Aliphatic)화합물의 합성 (Synthesis of Aromatic and Aliphatic Compound from Kraft Oak Lignin and Acetosolve Straw Lignin by Thermochemical Liquefaction)

  • Kraft oak lignin and ricestraw lignin from acetosolve pulping were dissolved in 50/50 mixture of tetralin/m-cresol solvent. The dissolved lignin was reacted in the pressurized autoclave which was operating at $350{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 10~20 atms of reaction pressure respectively_Hydrogen pressure of 60~80kg/$cm^2$ was exercising into the pressurized autoclave reactor to create thermochemical hydrogenolysis reaction. It was identified by GLC, GC-MS and HPLC that the alkyl-aryl-${\beta}$-O-4 ether bond of lignin was cleaved and degraded into various smaller molecules of aromatic compound such as phenols and cresols under the reaction conditions around $300^{\circ}C$ and 10 atms of reaction temoerature and pressure. Hydrogenolysis reaction of lignin compound which was done above $500^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 20 atms of reaction pressure showed that the amount of aromatic compound such as phenols and cresols degraded from reactant lignin was decreasing with newly present and increasing water out of product mixtures. It was supposed that new aliphatic compound of high molecular weight hydrocarbon is composed due to higher reaction temperature and pressure of hydrogenolysis reaction such as $500^{\circ}C$ and 20 atms, even though it was almost impossible, to identify what kind of degraded products it was by HPLC.

  • Aromatic nitro compounds are selectively hydrogenated to the corresponding amines in high yields at room temperature and atmospheric pressure using BER-Pd catalyst without affecting ketone, ether, ester, nitrile or chloro groups also present. Especially the nitro group in 4-nitrobenzyl alcohol, methyl 4-nitrobenzyl ether and N-N-dimethyl 4-nitrobenzylamine is selectively hydrogenated with this catalyst to give the corresponding amines without hydrogenolysis of benzylic groups. And aromatic nitro compound can be reduced selectively in the presence of aliphatic nitro compound.

The Reaction of 6,7-Dichloro-5,8-quinoxalinedione with Aromatic and Aliphatic Dinucleophiles and Molecular Modeling Study of Their Intercalation Complexes

  • The angular and planar heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen were synthesized by reaction of 6,7-dichloro-5,8-quinoxalinedione with aromatic and aliphatic dinucleophiles. Nucleophilic reactivity was somewhat different between 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone and 6,7-dichloro-5,8-quinolinedione with dinucleophiles. The distribution of electron in heterocycle appeared to contribute to this difference. The intercalation comple of planar heterocyclic compound between GC/GC base pairs showed the optimum intercalation but the intercalation of angular heterocyclic compound was not good. Thus, the planar compound was expected to have antitumor activity.

Volatile Flavor Components of Scent, Colored, and Common Rice Cultivars in Korea

  • To compare the composition of volatile flavor components of three different cultivars of rice, Hyangnambyeo (aromatic cultivar), Heugjinjubyeo (pigmented cultivar) and Dongjinbyeo (normal cultivar), the volatile flavor components of brown rice were isolated by Likens-Nickerson simultaneous steam distillation and extraction apparatus. The flavor concentrates obtained were analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 65 components, including 14 aliphatic aldehydes and ketones, 7 aliphatic alcohols, 8 aromatic alcohols, 13 hydrocarbons, 9 esters, 7 aliphatic acids, and 7 miscellaneous components were identified. The aliphatic aldehydes, which are known as contributors to the overall flavor of cooked rice, were present in larger amounts in Hyangnambyeo than in Heugjinjubyeo and Dongjinbyeo, while the difference in quantity of these components between Heugjinjubyeo and Dongjinbyeo was not remarkable. Hyangnambyeo and Heugjinjubeyo contained 562 ng and 259 ng of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline per gram of brown rice based on dry weight, respectively, which is a key compound contributing to the popcorn-like aroma in aromatic rice. Dongjinbeyo contained about 6 ng.

  • Sixty-eight kinds of aliphatic and aromatic substances peaks from ether extract of Codonopsis pilosulae Radix were shown by GC-Mass. Of them, 3 kinds of compounds were identified as ethyl benzene, acetophenone and 1-phenyl-2-butanone, which are compared with authentic specimen, and one compound was assumed as an aliphatic $C_8H_{16}O\;or\;C_9H_{20}$.

한국산 Zeolite의 필터첨가제로서의 흡착효과에 관하여 (A Study on the Adsorption Effect of Korean zeolite "Clinoptilolite" as Cigarette Cavity Filter Additive.)

  • Zeolite의 일종인 clinoptilolite를 담배필터 첨가제로 활용하는 연구를 하였다. 입자크기 30 $\pm$ 5 A.S.T.M. mesh의 clinoptilolite와 charcoal 1 : 1 (V/V)로 혼합하여 삼중필터의 cavity부분에 충진했을 때, 1. Cellulose acetate필터에 비하여 nicotine 35%, T.P..M.22%를 감소시켰으며, 2. Gas phase중 n-amyl alcohol등 aliphatic compound와 furan등 cyclic compound를 cellulose acetate filter에 비하여 60$\pm$ 5%를 감소시켰다. 3. Charcoal의 removal efficiency는 40-50% clinoptilolite의 10-20%에 비하여 큰 값이였지만 charcoal은 분자량이 큰 aromatic compound의 removal efficiency가 50$\pm$5%로서 aliphatic compound의 removal efficiency 40: 5%보다 큰 값이였음에 비하여 clinoptilolite는 alcohol과 ketone계열의 분자갹이 작은 화합물의 removal efficiency가 15-20%로 cyclic compounds의 removal efficiency 10-15%에 비하여 보다 큰 값이었다. 이 두물질의 gas phase성분의 흡착기능은 상호 보완적임을 알 수 있었다.

유기화합물들이 혼합상태에서 토양입자에 흡착하는 정도를 IAS와 Langmuir Model을 이용한 예측비교연구 (A Comparison of the IAS and Langmuir Models for Multisolute Adsorption of Organic Cowlpounds in Soil)

  • 여러종류의 화합물질들이 동시에 토양에 유출되었을 때 이들이 토양에 흡착하는 정도를 예측 함에는 Langmuir Competitive Model과 IAS(Ideal Adsorption Model) 등이 널리 사용되고 있 는데, 5개의 유기화합물질(Phenol, 2,4-Dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-Trichlorophenot Brucine, Thiourea)과 2종류의 토양을 이용한 흡착실험을 통해서 이 Model들의 예측도를 비교분석하였다. 흡착실험은 이 화합물질들이 독자적인 상태에서 그리고 혼합상태에서 각각 구분하여 실헙하였다. 일반적으로 IAS Model이 Langmuir Model보다 혼합상태에서 각 구성 화합물질들의 흡착을 더 정확히 예측하였다. Langmuir Model은 Phenol과 함께 섞여있는 다른물질의 농도가 높을 때 Phenol의 흡착을 낮게 예측하였다. 두가지 Model모두 Thiourea가 혼합상태에 있을때 흡착정도를 만족스럽게 예측하지 못했는데 Thiourea는 Aliphatic화합물이고 나머지 4개는 Aromatic화합물이다.

발생원 유형에 따른 공기 중 휘발성 유기화합물의 비산배출 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Fugitive Emission Characteristics of Airborne Volatile Organic Compounds from Different Source Categories)

  • In this study, the fugitive emission characteristics of airborne volatile organic compounds from different source categories were evaluated with respect to the concentrations measured in the vicinity of the sources. A total of 22 different sources were investigated, including gasoline storage and filling stations, painting spray booth, laundry, printing officer, textile industries, and a number of environmental sanitary facilities such as landfill, wastewater treatment and incineration plants. The target VOCs included 83 individual compounds, which were determined by adsorption sampling and thermal desorption coupled with GC/MS analysis. Overall, the aliphatic compounds appeared to be the most abundant class of compounds in terms of their concentrations, followed by aromatic, and halogenated hydrocarbons. As a single compound, however, toluene was the most abundant one, explaining 11% of the total VOC concentrations as an average of all the dataset. Among source categories, petroleum associated sources such as gasoline storage/filling stations, and laundry factory were identified as the most significant sources of aliphatic hydrocarbons, while aromatic VOCs were dominantly emitted from the sources handling organic solvents, such as painting booth, printing offices, and textile dyeing processes. However. there was no apparent pattern in terms of the contributions of eath group to the total VOCs concentrations in environmental sanitary facilities. It was also found that the activated carbon adsorption tower installed for the VOC emission control in some facilities do not show any effective performances, which may result in the increased VOC levels in the ambient atmosphere.

Catecholalane (1,3,2-Benzodioxaluminole) as a Selective Reducing Agent

  • Catecholalane (1,3,2-Benzodioxaluminole, CA) prepared from catechol and aluminum hydride in tetrahydrofuran (THF) is found to be a selective reducing agent. The systematic study in order to characterize the reducing properties of the reagent under practical conditions (THF, 0 or 25 ℃, the quantitative amount of reagent to compound) has been done. The reagent reduces aldehydes, ketones, esters and acid chlorides to the corresponding alcohols, and primary amides to the corresponding amines. Especially noteworthy is that the reagent can convert both aromatic and aliphatic nitriles to the corresponding aldehydes in very high yields.

여천 공업단지 봄, 가을 대기 중 휘발성 유기화합물 농도 비교 연구 (Comparative Study of Volatile Organic Compound Concentrations in the Yochon Industrial Estate during Spring and Fall)

  • The concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere were measured from the Yochon Industrial Estate and compared with those from Tongkwangyang and Seoul. The first important phenomenon observed in the air of Yochon was high concentrations of alkenes and in particular, ethylene and propene. For most dominant species, their means and standard deviations were high simultaneously. Concentrations of several major aliphatic species exhibited a similar pattern of diurnal variation, however, with different species combination on each day. Concentrations of several hazardous aromatic species also exhibited a similar pattern of diurnal variation on the same day, which was different from that observed in the diurnal variation of major aliphatic species. It was interpreted that some species were intermittently released from relevant processes. It was also understood that high concentrations and variations of VOC species in Yochon were localized and not related to high average concentrations of ozone in Yochon and Tongkwangyang areas.
