  • A broadcast method in mobile computing environments which have very large client populations solves the problem of low bandwidth. But most of previous proposed concurrency control protocols are restricted to read-only transactions from mobile client. In this paper, we propose the UTSM-ARM method which uses caching and broadcast method, and allows update transactions in mobile client. The UTSM-ARM decides the validation of cache data consistency with the dynamic update pattern ratio of accessed cached data. Also, the timestamps of accessed cached data and transaction in mobile client guarantee the serializable execution of mobile transactions. As a result, UTSM-ARM makes efficiently use of the asymmetric bandwidth of broadcast environment and can Increase the transaction throughput.

  • A man model can be used as an effective tool to design ergomonically sound products and workplaces, and subsequently evaluate them properly. For a man model to be truly useful, it must be integrated with a posture prediction model which should be capable of representing the human arm reach posture in the context of equipments and workspaces. Since the human movement possesses redundant degrees of freedom, accurate representation or prediction of human movemtn was known to be a difficult problem. To solve this redundancy problem, the psychophysical cost function can predict the arm reach posture accurately. But the joint discomfort that human feels at the joint can not be predicted since the effects of external factors on the joint discomfort is not known. In this study a psychophysical experi- ment using the magnitude estimation technique was performed to evaluate the effects of external factors such as joint, joint angle and Perceived Exertion Ratio on the joint discomfort. Results showed that the joint discomfort increased as the Perceived Exertion Ratio increased, but the relation is not linear and was affected not only by the joint but also by the joint angle for the same Perceived Exertion Ratio. The interaction effect of the joint and the joint angle was also significant. From the results it is needed to develope the cost function which can predict the joint discomfort considering the joint, joint angle and external load.

  • Purpose : This study was to understand about the measurement of shoulder motion fraction and motion ratio. We proposed the radiological criterior of glenohumeral and scapulothoracic movement ratio. Materials and Methods : We measured the motion fraction of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic movement using CR(computed radiological system) of arm elevation at neutral, 90 degree, full elevation. Central ray was $15^{\circ},\;19^{\circ},\;22^{\circ}$ to the cephald for the parallel scapular spine, and the tilting of torso was external oblique $40^{\circ},\;36^{\circ},\;22^{\circ}$ for perpendicular to glenohumeral surface. Healthful donor of 100 was divided 5 groups by age(20, 30, 40, 50, 60). The angle of glenohumeral motion and scapulothoracic motion could be taken from gross arm angle and radiological arm angle. We acquired 3 images at neutral, $90^{\circ}$ and full elevation position and measured radiographic angle of glenoheumeral, scapulothoracic movement respectively. Results : While the arm elevation was $90^{\circ}$, the shoulder motion fraction was 1.22(M), 1.70(W) in right arm and 1.31, 1.54 in left. In full elevation, Right arm fraction was 1.63, 1.84, and left was 1.57, 1.32. In right dominant arm(78%), $90^{\circ} and Full motion fraction was 1.58, 1.43, in left(22%) 1.82, 1.94. In generation 20, $90^{\circ} and Full motion fraction was 1.56, 1.52, 30' was 1.82, 1.43, 40' was 1.23, 1.16, 50' was 1.80, 1.28, 60' was 1.24, 1.75. There was not significantly by gender, dominant arm and age. Conclusion : The criterior of motion fraction was useful reference for clinical dignosis the shoulder instability.

  • Recently, the medical community has been enthusiastically welcoming robots that are able to provide high-quality medical services across the board, including assisting the surgeons during surgeries. In response, many higher education institutions and research facilities started to conduct various experiments and studies about these robots. During such research, it was discovered that the arm of one particular robot type that is being developed to assist surgeries are prone to vibrate even from the weakest impact, in addition to other residual vibration problems. We attempted to reduce such dynamic response by using a MF-TMD that is produced by adding magnetic fluid to ECD. We verified the MF-TMD's performance by testing it within various frequency bands and attenuations. We then designed a cantilever that was structurally similar to the robot's arm. We attached the MF-TMD to this cantilever and conducted a pilot experiment, which validated our hypothesis that MF-TMD will reduce the robot arm's vibrations through its optimal damping ratio. Henceforth, we attached the MF-TMD to the robot arm in question and conducted a performance experiment in which we tuned the MF-TMD's frequency and damping factor to its optimal level and measured the vibrations of the arm. The experiment demonstrated that the vibrations that occurred whenever the arms rotated were significantly reduced.

  • Formulas for the prediction of total body fat from skinfold thickness in middle aged men were presented. Hydrostatic weighing was made on 35 middle-aged men $(age:\;40{\sim}50\;years)$ sad corrected for residual volume in lung. Skinfold thickness at four sites, namely, arm, back, waist and abdomen were compared with total fat calculated from the formula given by Keys and Brozek and regression equations were derived. In middle-aged men the observed values were: Body density, 1.07478 ; total body fat, 10.51% body weight; lean body mass, 89.49% body weight; arm skinfold thickness, 4.85mm; back, 10.4 ; waist, 7.72; abdomen, 7.62 and mean skinfold thickness of the four sites, 7.59 mm. The correlations between skinfold thickness and body density were high. The correlations between skinfold thickness and total body fat were also high. The coefficient of correlation between total body fat and arm skinfold, mean skinfold thickness were r=0.839 and r=0.862, respectively. Arm and mean skinfold thicknesses (x, mm) could be used as the representative value for the prediction of total body fat (y, % body weight). The regression equations were: On arm y=2.00x+0.99, With mean skinfold y=1.20x+1.41 The coefficient of correlation between body weight (kg) and mean skinfold thickness was r=0.733. The ratio of mean skinfold thickness (mm) to body weight (kg) in middle-aged men was 0.132.

  • The purpose of this study was to perform a kinematic analysis of the high jump techniques of the three men's medalists at the 2011 IAAF Championships in Daegu (August 27-September 4, 2011). In particular, a three-dimensional coordinates method was used to analyze the last three strides before touchdown, the touchdown techniques, and the movements after takeoff toward the bar. An analysis of the, data for the biomechanical characteristics of the world's best high jumpers could contribute to an improvement in the performance of a national high jumper. The first conclusion of the data analysis was that the arm movements of the gold medalist, J. Williams, had a single arm form, whereas the arm movements of the other medalists were a double arm form. Second, the difference in the knee joint angles upon touchdown and toe-off was $10^{\circ}$. Third, J. Williams achieved his maximum CM height after takeoff (1.26 m) using the maximum flexion of his knee joint. Fourth, the foot contact duration of A. Dmitrik (0.11 s) was the shortest among the medalists, and the ratio for his transformation of horizontal velocity to vertical velocity was the greatest (75.25%) among the three. Last, the maximum CM height of T. Barry was the greatest, and his foot contact duration was the longest.

  • Sixteen reinforced concrete beams were tested statically up to failure to investigate the arch action. Major variables were the shear span to depth ratio, steel ratio and existence of stirrups. The arch action in reinforced concrete beams started when flexural cracks appeared at the center of the span. Due to the reduction of internal moment arm length by the development of arch action, the measured steel tension was significantly higher than the calculated. As the shear span to depth ratio arid steel ratio decrease, the arch action in reinforced concrete eams increases. Over the entire length the force in the steel of no web reinforced beams having smaller a /d ratio than 3 was constant because the beams acted as a tied arch.
