This paper proposes an efficient spatial index, named $AR^*$-tree(Area $R^*$-tree) which is a variant of the $R^*$-tree, for mobile software. A MBR(Minimum Bounding Rectangle) structure of the $AR^*$-tree has additional min and max values of area axis as well as x and y axes. The value of area axis is used to determine the significance of a spatial data. If area of a spatial data is large, then it is significant when drawing a map. To reduce complexity of a map on a small screen of mobile device, only significant spatial data can be found by the $AR^*$-tree. The result of a series of tests indicates that the $AR^*$-tree provides a method for control of readability of a map and guarantees an efficient performance at the same time.

Temporal Sign Language Recognition (TSLR) from hand motion is an active area of gesture recognition research in facilitating efficient communication with deaf people. TSLR systems consist of two stages: a motion sensing step which extracts useful features from signers' motion and a classification process which classifies these features as a performed sign. This work focuses on two of the research problems, namely unknown time varying signal of sign languages in feature extraction stage and computing complexity and time consumption in classification stage due to a very large sign sequences database. In this paper, we propose a combination of Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and application of the Single hidden Layer Feedforward Neural networks (SLFNs) trained by Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) to cope the limitations. DTW has several advantages over other approaches in that it can align the length of the time series data to a same prior size, while ELM is a useful technique for classifying these warped features. Our experiment demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed method with the recognition accuracy up to 98.67%. The proposed approach can be generalized to more detailed measurements so as to recognize hand gestures, body motion and facial expression.

A new automatic small target detection and tracking algorithm for the real-time IR surveillance system is presented. The automatic target detection and tracking algorithm of the real-time systems, requires low complexity and robust tracking performance in the cluttered environment. Linear-array and parallel-scan IR systems usually suffer from severe scan noise caused by the detector non-uniformity. After the spatial filtering and thresholding, this scan noise still remains as high amplitude clutter which degrades the target detection rate and tracking performance. In this paper, we propose a new feature which consists of area and validity information of a measurement. By adopting this feature to the measurements selection and track confirmation, we can increase the target detection rate and reduce both the track loss rate and false track rate. From the experimental results, we can validate the feasibility of the proposed method in the noisy IR images.
The triac is a bidirectional triode with blocking and conducting characteristics used in motor control or heater power control. This greatly simplifies the circuits required for the control of the full wave AC Power by reducing the number of power handling components and by reducing the size and complexity of the gate control circuit.[3] In this paper, We can understand measurement results of analysis which have been made on the electrical characteristics of triac with gate diffusion time for the gate area.
In this study, for purpose of searching for measures to lower the logistics costs which is one of the most difficulties for the small-medium sized manufacturers in Pusan and Kimhae, those manufacturers were surveyed with questionnaire about the facts in the export logistics costs, difficulties related to the costs, and measures they thought for lowering the cost. Taking account of findings from the survey, the comprehensive measures of saving the export logistics costs were to be proposed. In the surveyed manufacturers, the problems they thought over export logistics costs lied in short logistics information and transportation-related difficulties in cargo and distribution, insufficient standardization in packaging and the shortage of material handling equipments in unloading. In transportation, frequent non-fulfillment of in-time shipment, cost increase including over consumption of transportation time due to traffic jam, and the biased heavy use of inland transportation were pointed out as problems. In customs clearance, logistics information, and marine insurance, addressed were complexity in custom clearance and bonded transportation procedures, and the shortage of software and hardware to construct logistics information system.
Since string operations were applied to computational biology area, various data structures and algorithms for computing efficient string operations have been studied. The longest common substring problem is an operation to find the longest matching substring in more than two strings, and maximal repeat of string problem is an operation to find substrings repeated more than once in the given string. These operations are importantly used in the string processing area such as pattern matching and likelihood measurement. In this paper, we present algorithms to compute the longest common substring of two strings and to find the maximal repeat of string using three-dimensional $n{\times}n{\times}n$ processors on RMESH(Reconfigurable MESH). Our algorithms have O(1) time complexity.

In modern electronic warfare systems, a demand on the more accurate estimation method based on TDOA and FDOA has been increased. TDOA/FDOA localization consists of two-stage procedures: the extraction of information from signals and the estimation of emitter location. Various algorithms based on CAF(complex ambiguity function), which is known as a basic method, has been presented in the area of extractions. When we extract TDOA and FDOA information using a conventional method based on the CAF algorithm from communication signals, considerably long integration time is required for the accurate position estimation of an unknown emitter far from sensors more than 300 km. Such long integration time yields huge amount of transmission data from sensors to a central processing unit, resulting in heavy computiational complexity. Therefore, we theoretically analyze the integration time for TDOA/FDOA information using CRLB and propose a two-stage global optimization algorithm which can minimize the transmission time and a computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the conventional CAF-based algorithms in terms of a computational complexity and the CRLB to verify the estimation performance.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a hyperelliptic curve cryptography (HECC) coprocessor over affine and projective coordinates, along with measurements of its performance, hardware complexity, and power consumption. We applied several design techniques, including parallelism, pipelining, and loop unrolling, in designing field arithmetic units, group operation units, and scalar multiplication units to improve the performance and power consumption. Our affine and projective coordinate-based HECC processors execute in 0.436 ms and 0.531 ms, respectively, based on the underlying field GF($2^{89}$). These results are about five times faster than those for previous hardware implementations and at least 13 times better in terms of area-time products. Further results suggest that neither case is superior to the other when considering the hardware complexity and performance. The characteristics of our proposed HECC coprocessor show that it is applicable to high-speed network applications as well as resource-constrained environments, such as PDAs, smart cards, and so on.

Arithmetic operations over finite fields are widely used in coding theory and cryptography. In both of these applications, there is a need to design low complexity finite field arithmetic units. The complexity of such a unit largely depends on how the field elements are represented. Among them, representation of elements using a optimal normal basis is quite attractive. Using an algorithm minimizing the number of 1's of multiplication matrix, in this paper, we propose a multiplier which is time and area efficient over finite fields with optimal normal basis.

As vehicles become intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, in-vehicle networking (IVN) systems are essential components of intelligent vehicles. Recently, the chassis networking system which require increased network capacity and real-time capability is being developed to expand the application area of IVN systems. Also, FlexRay has been developed for the chassis networking system. However, FlexRay needs a complex scheduling method of static segment, which is a barrier for implementing the chassis networking system. Especially, if we want to migrate from CAN network to FlexRay network using CAN message database that was well constructed for the chassis networking system by automotive vendors, a novel scheduling method is necessary to be able to reduce design complexity. This paper presents a node-based scheduling method for FlexRay network system. And, in order to demonstrate the method's feasibility, its performance is evaluated through an experimental testbed.
