  • A paulownia wood has been widely used with various advantages as its low weight, permeability, convenient workability and aesthetic patterns for a long time. However, the related empirical researches and simultaneous evaluations of functionality are insufficient compared with acid-free archival boxes for now. In this study, the indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity control and heat release rate were evaluated under the controlled and uncontrolled circumstance in 2018. The paulownia wood storage box showed superior control effect of relative humidity than the acid-free archival box in constantly uncontrolled environment. Also, the possibility of the flame diffusion from the surface of the materials was higher for the paulownia materials, and the acid-free archival box showed more dangerous patterns in the early stages of the fire.

  • This study examined the curriculum of 23 graduate schools of archival sciences in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia and 25 graduate schools of archival sciences in Korea, and compared core knowledge categories. The average number of courses in Korea and other countries was similar, but each university in other countries set required courses, and few in Korea. As a result of comparison by knowledge category, all knowledge categories in North America were opened as individual courses, while the UK and Australia did not open knowledge categories of outreach, instruction, advocacy, and knowledge categories of professionalism separately. In Korea, the category of outreach, instruction, advocacy, the knowledge category of professionalism, and the knowledge category of information technology have not been established separately, while courses related to history and administration are subdivided. In order to reform the archival science education in Korea, the knowledge categories for archival professionals should be prepared and the guidelines and certification standards for the education should be established.

  • This study aims to understand archival art, which is spreading in the art world, and to look at records in a new way. Archival art refers to the act of creating and exhibiting art using records as a medium of expression. Archival art is attracting attention as a method of exhibition and creation of works, forming a trend in contemporary art. Archival art was born amid changes in art creation methods resulting from the rise of conceptual art, the development of media including photography and advancements in digital technology, and the influence of Foucault and Derrida's discourse on archives. The encounter between archives and art, which originated from photographic aesthetics in the 1920s, led to archival turn in contemporary art in the 1990s, thanks to the spread of conceptual art, digital technology, and postmodernism. Archival art not only subverts traditional art creation methods, but also includes criticism and deconstruction of social systems, including modern archives. Archival art rearranges and reorganizes records according to the artist's intention, and even accepts fiction rather than fact. The essence of records in archival art is not the reproduction of the past, but the expression of present needs. The way records are utilized in archival art shakes up the concept of records in archival science, calling for a new look at records as objects with not only legal and administrative value but also aesthetic value.

  • The study aims at providing alternative strategies for the National Assembly's archival information services. In this context, it conducts a literature review and discusses current status of the National Assembly's archival information services. Furthermore, this study draws six critical problems of the National Assembly's archival information services, ranging from a lack of comprehensive archival information services to a deficiency of value-added contents. As a case study, it reviews legislative archival institutions in the US and the UK, and classifies their legislative records management services into 3 different types, including retrieval assistant services, contents services, and extensive services. Base on the case study, as a result, it provides 5 strategies for the development of the National Assembly's archival information services.

  • This study is to investigate archival use behavior of history teachers in high schools. The study conducted 3 times interviews with high school history teachers and carried out a survey on recognition of archives, archival use, archival seeking behavior, and harrier factors for archival use to 30 teachers from the 2 local communities of history teachers. According to the survey, history teachers have used archives for raising the historical understanding by students in their classes. But the tight curriculums of history and the lack of time to search archives were barrier factors for teachers to use archives in their classes. • Prior researchers interpreted the records of criminal cases involving the Progressive Party from a historical perspective. In marked contrast to existing trends, this study examines the Progressive Party case records through the lens of archival science. This study dissects the Progressive Party case records as a single and complete record group and at each stage of their life cycle from police investigation through criminal prosecution to trial. This approach enables a holistic analysis of archival characteristics of the records. This study begins with an appraisal of the nature and types of case records generated and maintained by the various agencies in light of the investigatory authorities delegated to each institution. This study then dissects the police, prosecution, and Counter Intelligence Corps records leading up to the indictment of Progressive Party members as well as the court records of the trial that followed. In particular, this study reveals the insufficiency and illegality of the evidence against the defendants in the Progressive Party case from an archival standpoint. Setting aside the admissibility or strength of the evidence under criminal law, the present study demonstrates that the records lack reliability, authenticity, and integrity-the fundamental attributes required for evidentiary efficacy of records from an archival standpoint.

  • In this study, the intellectual structure of Records Management & Archival Science in Korea was analyzed using document clustering, a widely used method of text mining, and document similarity network analysis. The data used in this study were 145 articles written on the subject of Records Management & Archival Science selected from five major representative journals in the field of Library & Information Science in Korea, published from 2001 to 2006. The results of cluster analysis show that the core subject areas are "electronic records management and digital Preservation," "records management policy and institution," "records description and catalogues." and "records management domain and education." The results of document analysis, which is more detailed than cluster analysis, show that "digital archiving," a specialized subject in digital preservation, plays a central role. The results of serial analysis, which proceeds according to a timeline, show the emergence of "archival services" as a new subject area.
