  • High-rise and high-density apartment complexes have been built and supplied on a large scale in the 1st period New Town of metropolitan areas since the late 1980s. Recently it has become necessary to improve those apartment complexes which have blight problems for aging more than about 20 years accompanying simultaneity and a large scale. The purpose of this study is to analyze actual conditions of high-rise and high-density apartments in a view of sustainable regeneration. The contents and methods of this study are as follows. First, the concept of high-rise and high-density in domestic apartment developments were identified through review of literature and the law. Second, development conditions of Bundang new town and 1st period new town were studied. Third, the evelopment conditions of high-rise and high-density apartments in cases of 6 apartment complexes were analyzed from points of view of sustainable development by literature review and a field study. The results of this study are as follows. First, high-density range in domestic apartments can be conceptualized as 600 persons/ha. High-rise range in domestic apartments can be onceptualized as more than 11 stories under 30 stories. • Medical implant devices are one of the targets of the US's Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for tracking in case of a serious adverse event since they are directly connected to the lives of patients. The US law stipulates that the public health agency shall order implantable device makers to track their product down to the patient level if a serious adverse event has occurred or defects have been discovered; in reality, however, the agency can pass on the responsibility for tracking or recalling faulty devices to the manufacturers or use mass media. This article proposes an efficient tracking and recall management system and examines four main virtual scenarios based on such. This research seeks to suggest a system that enables FDA to perform accurate and prompt tracking and recall management for patients' enhanced safety.

  • A series of wind tunnel tests were conducted on 7 super-tall buildings with various polygon cross-sections, including triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, dodecagon, and circular. The primary purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of increasing number of sides on aerodynamic characteristics for super-tall buildings. Wind tunnel tests were conducted under the turbulent boundary layers whose power-law exponent is 0.27. Fluctuating wind pressures from more than 200 pressure taps were recorded simultaneously, and time series of overturning moments were calculated considering tributary area of each pressure tap. The results show that the overturning moment coefficients and the spectral values decrease with increasing number of sides, and the largest mean and fluctuating overturning moments were found for the triangular super-tall building, and the largest spectral values were found for the square super-tall building. The analysis should be conducted more in detail, but currently it can be roughly said that there seems to be a little differences in the aerodynamic characteristics for the super-tall buildings whose number of sides is larger than 5 or 6.

  • IT investment is continuously increasing. Its outcome, however, is not accomplished as easily as originally expected. There have a variety of efforts to overcome this dilemma. In public sector, information resource management (IRM) was suggested as one of the most effective approach for information & IT management. Accordingly, United States has been incorporating the IRM principles into information-related laws since 1980s. However, such efforts were insufficient in Korea. In this study we attempt to compare our information-related laws with United States laws with respect to major components of IRM. Based on this finding, we go one-step further to suggest ways to arrange a new legislation where the IRM would be a foundation for information & IT management.

  • In Korea, The Consumer Protection Law in Electronic Commerce, which came into effect in July 2002, forced internet shopping malls to provide a minimum of 7 forms of business information, including the name of the business, the name of the representative, geographical address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, and business license number, so that consumers could easily identify them. To investigate the shopping malls which do not provide their business information, can lead to confidence in the electronic commerce environment. To investigate the completeness of the business information with the internet shopping malls, this paper proposes the methods of gathering URLs of internet shopping malls, of extracting business information attributes, and an architecture of the agent system. Information extraction in our research is based on synonyms and indicator words of the attributes. With the experiment we showed that the accuracy of our agent system to find out the right business information is 89.3%.

  • This study is targeted on children's parks in Seogu, Daejeon with the goal of maximizing the usage and versatility of existing parks in the area by the survey and analysis of the general status of children's parks, land use near the parks, population, users, and traits of usage. For the purposes of this thesis this study has selected 65 of the children's parks in the Seogu District to monitor. It also focused on a number of these parks located in areas which underwent a lot of changes and needed an increase in usage and versatility. Based on the selection criteria, the four target parks, Wojeong, Meongwhack, Dosan and Wicdunjimi children's park were selected. The Survey shows that 55.9% of park visitors visited a park to 'rest and take a walk' and used 'main facilities' meaning resting facilities like pergola and benches. In the nighttime, the number of park visitors is so few because of safety problems. 50% of users were satisfied with parks. It shows that there are many respondents who want to recompose these parks as places for light exercise, resting, meeting, and as community symbols. Generally, these target parks don't reach their full potential and they also do not play their proper roles because they are hampered by the constriction of the law. These stick to an outdated idea of what a park should be like without considering the actual and practical needs of city dwellers. When it comes to the remodeling and refurbishing of these parks we have to rethink the planning process so that these parks may be more versatile and practical in order to accommodate the radical changes of users and patterns of usage.

  • Routers should perform fast IP address lookup for Internet to provide high-speed service. In this paper, we present a hybrid parallel IP address lookup structure composed of four-stage pipeline. It achieves parallelism at low cost by using multiple SRAMs in stage 2 and partitioned TCAMs in stage 3, and improves the performance through pipelining. The smart distributor in stage 1 does not transfer any IP address identical to previous one toward the next stage, but only uses the result of the previous lookup. So it improves throughput of lookup by caching effects, and decreases the access conflict to TCAM bank in stage 3 as well. In the last stage, the reorder buffer rearranges the completed IP addresses according to the input order. We evaluate the performance of our parallel pipelined IP lookup structure comparing with previous hybrid structure, using the real routing table and traffic distributions generated by Zipf's law.

  • Purpose: This study is to research how New-Hanok R&D technologies of first stage are appearing and adapted to the New-Hanok style public buildings, especially in Daycare Center in Sunchang-gun, Korea. Unlike Hanok houses, public buildings which has special needs for the public and restricted by laws and regulations need not only new system of law incentives but also new components of New-Hnaok R&D technologies used only in Hanok house. Method: For this purpose, we checked the drawings for Daycare Center in Sunchang-gun. The drawings have been changed 6 times for the purpose of adopting New-Hanok R&D technologies of first stage and actual needs for current laws and regulations for public buildings and it reveals not only the possibilities for adapting new technologies in New-Hanok but also meetings the current and public needs for public buildings. Result: The result of this study as follows. Approximately 40-50 percent of New-Hanok R&D technologies in the first stage are adapted in Daycare Center in Sunchang-gun, and this means there are limitations in adapting New-Hanok R&D which are mainly for the Korean style houses. The main reasons are the costs still remaining high and lacking in confidence for using traditional structures and materials still under verification. Some are changed and proposed in another solutions suitable for public buildings as like truss structure system in roof.

  • On July 2004, the brand new CASBEE for construction (Brief version) has completed while trying to highlight and improve major items adequate for each region's characteristics in Japan; at the same time, from the start of NAGOYA CITY (operated since April 2004) to the point of May 2011, it has been mandatory for specified size buildings in 23 regions by law. Evaluation sheet of CASBEE is published on each region's home page and various genre of information on building evaluation which is scheduled to be completed by 2016 and is for 5-6 years of quantity is accumulated until October 2012. It is good study resource to verify how new buildings being evaluated are closely match with CASBEE's original purport (eco-friendly, energy efficiency, publicity etc). Particularly, for Japan's multi-family housing where small sized mid to high level single housing type is majority in city, it is an important point that improved performance on eco-friendly buildings have more value in city rather than suburb. Categorized score through evaluation is a resource to confirm the latest trend of multi-family housing built in congested city; on the other hand, demand of the time can be recognized by the score focused on category. It is meaningful resource to determine the adequacy of evaluated items and the degree of reality.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the distribution of urban parks and its problems in a city in Gyeonggi-do where new towns and old towns are mixed. The study will also analyze and understand the unbalanced deployment of urban parks - rest areas and carbon absorbers of an entire city - between old towns and new towns, suggest improvement opportunities and examine and suggest plans to create and expand urban parks in old cities that lack urban parks. Findings showed that first, new towns were 1.2~1.6 higher than old towns in the number of parks, park area, and per capita park area, indicating that parks were unbalanced across towns. Second, as for a plan for improving the unbalanced deployment of urban parks, when the use area needs to be changed in an urban development project, it was suggested to donate 10% of the project site to the city to create it into a park and it was suggested to identify and proactively improve alternative park resources that can replace parks such as rivers and recreational sites. Third, regarding a plan for improving urban parks in old towns, it was suggested to secure urban parks by attracting various urban development projects to old town areas. The amendment of related laws was proposed to double required park area to $6m^2$ per household. Amendments were also suggested for one law and four guidelines to specifically define the location of urban parks as well.
