  • It is addressed that the turbulent broadband sound power from a sirocco fan can be modeled by the trailing edge noise. The trailing edge noise is usually influenced by inflow turbulence, separation, and boundary layer on the blade. The design parameters such as solidity(c/s) and stagger angle are specified to predict performance and noise level because the separation and slip velocity are strongly affected by them along with the flow coefficient. This paper reports the effects of the solidity and the stagger angle upon the trailing edge noise from the circular arc-shaped blade of sirocco fan.

  • A two-dimensional direct numerical simulation is performed to investigate the formation characteristics of a single vortex interacting with $CH_4/N_2$-Air counterflow nonpremixed flame. The numerical method was based on a predictor-corrector scheme for a low Mach number flow. The detailed transport properties and a 16-step augmented reduced mechanism are adopted in this calculation. The budgets of the vorticity transport equation arc examined to reveal the mechanisms leading to the formation, evolution and dissipation of a single vortex interacting with counterflow nonpremixed flame. It is found that the stretching term, which depends on the azimuthal component of vorticity, and radial velocity, mainly generates vortieitv in non-reacting and reacting flows. The viscous and baroclinic torque term destroy the vorticity in non-reacting flow. In addition, the baroclinic torque term due to density and pressure gradient generates vorticity, while viscous and the volumetric expansion terms due to density gradient destroy vorticity in reacting flow.

  • A transient two-dimensional (2D) model was developed for investigating the heat and fluid flow in old pools and determining velocity profile and temperature distribution for the Gas Metal Arc (GMA) welding process. The mathematical formulation deals with the driving farces (electromagnetic, buoyancy, surface tension and plasma drag forces) as well as energy exchange between the molten filler metal droplet and weld pools. A general thermofluid-mechanics computer program, PHOENICS, was employed to numerically solve the governing equation with the associated source terms. The results of computation have shown that the electromagnetic and surface tension farces as will as the molten filler metal droplet have major influence in shaping the weld pool geometry.

  • As a new approach to substitute for a hard alloy of stellite 6B containing Co which is radioactive in nuclear system, a hard-phase coating of CrN will be applicable to protect 12Cr steel from erosion at leading edge on steam turbine blade. The CrN coating was prepared by arc ion plating on 12 Cr steel and was undertaken in liquid impact test at the velocity of 35Om/sec, which simulate the environment in the last stage of blade. The erosion resistance of coating was evaluated by optical observation on damaged surface. The threshold number of impact was closely related with surface hardness. And thus, it was confirmed that surface hardening improves the life time of steam turbine blade.

전차선로 해빙시스템의 온도특성 (Temperature Analysis of the De-icing System for Overhead Contact Wire)

  • The ice coats are built on 25 kV overhead contact wire when the temperature is lower than $0^{\circ}C$. It generates shockwaves at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire. The de-icing processes should be performed to avoid shockwaves which are generated by a pulsed high-voltage arc discharge. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing effects which could be applied to the overhead contact wire of railways using Joule heat. The results show that 350 A is the proper current for $0^{\circ}C$ conductor according to environmental condition such as velocity of air stream, ambient temperature and moisture.

  • Metal Transfer in gas metal arc (GMA) welding is a complex phenomenon affected by many parameters of the welding conditions and material properties. In this research, the correlation equation between the welding condition and detaching droplet size and detaching velocity in GMA welding was studied via recession analysis on the results of numerical analysis using the volume-of-fluid (VOF) method. Welding parameters and material properties were grouped into three dimensionless numbers and detaching droplet size was expressed as the function of them. Second order and exponential multi-variable correlation forms were assumed, and the coefficients of these equations were calculated for globular and spray modes as well as entire transfer modes. Applying correlation equation into available experimental data, it shows good agreement.

Sliding Wear and Corrosion Resistance of Copper-based Overhead Catenary for Traction Systems

  • In the present study, the electrical sliding wear and corrosion resistance of pure copper (Cu) and six age-hardened copper alloys (CuCr, CuZr, CuCrZr, CuNiSiCr, CuBe and CuBeNi) were investigated by a pin-on-disc tribometer and electrochemical measurement. Various copper-based alloys in the form of cylindrical pin were forced to slide against a counterface stainless steel disc in air under unlubricated condition at a sliding velocity of 31 km/h under normal load up to 20 N with and without electric current. The worn surface of and wear debris from the specimens were studied by scanning electron microscopy. Both mechanical wear and electrical arc erosion were the wear mechanisms for the alloys worn at 50 A. Owing to its good electrical conductivity, high wear and corrosion resistance, CuCrZr is a promising candidate as the overhead catenary material for electric traction systems.

  • 본 논문에서는 아리랑 1호의 실제 비행데이터를 이용하여 지상에서 정밀궤도결정을 수행한 후 얻을 수 있는 성능에 대해 분석하였다. 분석에 사용된 궤도결정 알고리즘은 바예 시안 최소자승법을 작용한 배치필터이며, 궤도결정 정밀도 평가를 위해 중첩법 (Overlap Method) 을 이용하였다. 또한, 미국 NORAD 의 TLE (Two-Line Element) 및 지상추적 데이터를 이용한 궤도결정 결과들과의 비교, 분석도 수행하였다. 궤도결정 정밀도에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 요인, 즉 관측데이터 종류 및 탑재시계 편류 (On-Board Time Drift)에 의한 정밀도 변화에 대해서도 분석되어졌다. 본 연구결과, 중첩법 평가에 의한 30시간 GPS 항행해 위치 성분만을 이용한 궤도결정 정밀도는 5m RMS 수준이었으며, GPS 항행해 중 속도 성분은 궤도결정 시 사용하지 않는 것이 바람직하며, 타 관측데이터를 이용한 궤도결정 결과와의 비교를 통해 심각한 시각 바이어스에 의한 뚜렷한 정밀도 저하는 없음을 알 수 있었다.

수치 모사를 통한 이중원호 익렬의 성능 예측 (Numerical Analysis on Cascade Performance of Double-Circular-Arc Hydrofoil)

  • In order to design and analyze the performance of an axial-flow pump it is necessary to know the flow deviation, deflection angle and pressure loss coefficient as a function of the angle of incidence for the hydrofoil section in use. Because such functions are unique to the particular section, however, general correlation formulae are not available for the multitude of hydrofoil profiles, and such functions must be generated by either experiment or numerical simulation for the given or selected hydrofoil section. The purpose of present study is to generate design correlations for hydrofoils with double circular arc (DCA) camber by numerical analysis using a commercial code, FLUENT. The cascade configuration is determined by a combination of the inlet blade angle, blade thickness, camber angle, and cascade solidity, and a total of 90 cascade configurations are analyzed in this study. The inlet Reynolds number based on the chord and the inlet absolute velocity is fixed at 5${\times}$10$\^$5/. Design correlations are formulated, based on the data at the incidence angle of minimum total pressure loss. The correlations obtained in this way show good agreement with the experiment data collected at NASA with DCA hydrofoils.

  • 국토의 70%이상이 산지로 구성되어 있는 한국은 도시내부에 크고 작은 산, 언덕이 위치하고 있다. 따라서 건축구조기준에서는 건물의 풍하중 설계 시 지형의 영향에 따른 풍속의 증가를 고려하도록 하고 있지만 지형에 의한 풍속할증계수 산정 시 건물 주변에 두 개 이상의 산지가 위치하거나 지표면의 정의와 높이가 명확하지 않을 경우 설계자의 주관에 의해 지형에 의한 풍속할증계수를 산정함으로써 비합리적인 내풍설계가 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하고 보다 합리적인 지형에 의한 풍속할증계수를 산정하기 위하여 ArcGIS를 이용하여 지형에 의한 풍속할증계수를 산정하는 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 비교적 높은 위치정확도를 가진 1:5,000 수치지형도를 이용하여 지형에 의한 풍속할증계수 산정 시 적용범위를 명확하게 정의함으로서 지표면과 정점을 명료하게 산정하여 보다 합리적으로 지형에 의한 풍속할 증계수를 산정하였다.
