아라미드 종이의 특성에 대한 표면 개질 과정 조건의 영향 (Effect of Surface Modification Process Conditions on Properties of Aramid Paper)

  • Surface modification of meta-aramid fibers was performed by phosphoric acid treatment. Surface morphology and element composition of untreated and treated fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Effects of surface modification on the mechanical strength of aramid papers made from meta-aramid fibers and fibrid were investigated. Surface modification conditions were optimized by response surface analysis (RSA). Results show that phosphoric acid treatment increases the surface roughness and oxygen content of aramid fibers. They improve the interface bonding strength between aramid fibers and fibrid, which improves the tensile strength of aramid papers. The results of response surface analysis indicate that the tensile strength of aramid papers increases by 47.5% and reaches the maximum when meta-aramid fibers are treated with 21.1wt% phosphoric acid solution at $39.3^{\circ}C$ for 36.7 min.

  • A novel manufacturing method for hybrid composites filled with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and aramid fibers is proposed. To disperse the CNTs in the epoxy matrix with the presence of aramid fibers, CNT/polyethyleneoxide (PEO) composites are prepared and utilized because PEO is miscible in the epoxy resin. After thin films are made of the CNT/PEO composite and placed together with the aramid fibers, the epoxy resin is infused to them. The PEO is dissolved in the epoxy and then the CNTs are dispersed in the PEO/epoxy matrix between aramid fibers before the pre-heated matrix is cured. It is found that the PEO is completely miscible with the epoxy resin and CNTs are dispersed well in the space between the aramid fibers.

아라미드 소재의 침염 및 날염 (Dyeing and Printing on Aramid Materials)

  • Aramid fibers have been widely used as the reinforcement for composites due to their high modulus and strength. Nowadays the safety measures is required to improve the personal protection. The dyeing of aramid fibers is considered to be very difficult and their dyeing mechanism is not well illucidated. Therefore, this study is to establish the dyeing & printing technology for aramid fibers. The effects of swelling agent and neutral salt in the dye bath on the obtained colors were studied. Also dyeing method of aramid fibers depending on dyeing temperature and dye concentration were established. Color fastness of the dyed aramid fabric with cationic dyes were acceptable excluding light fastness.

  • para-Aramid fibers were treated by low-temperature plasma to improve the adhesion. The surface of para-aramid fibers were treated with gaseous plasma of several discharge power and treatment time in oxygen gas at 1Torr pressure. The treated fibers at low-temperature plasma were taken oxygen-containing functional groups and micro-crator on the surface. The modified fibers were measured by dynamic contact angle analyzer and XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). The Interfacial adhesion properties of aramid fabric and polyurethane resin were determined by T-peel test. The surface of aramid fibers were observed by FE-SEM photographs. It was found that surface modification and chemical component ratio of the aramid fibers were improved wettability and adhesion characterization.

  • FRMLs consist of thin sheets of high strength metal, which are laminated using a structural adhesive and high strength fibers. ARALL(Aramid-fiber Reinforced Aluminum alloy Laminates) of FRMLs is a new class of hybrid material. HERALL(Heracron Reinforced Aluminum Laminate) i.e. domestic ARALL is made of homemade aramid fibers, adhesives and adhesive technique. Domestic aramid fiber is Heracron manufactured by KOLON and domestic adhesive is epoxy resin manufactured by Han Kuk Fiber. In this study, Fatigue crack propagation behavior was examined in a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy/aramid-fiber epoxy 3/2 laminated composites, HERALL and ARAL $L^{ⓡ}$-2 LAMINATE comparing with 2024-T3 aluminum alloy. The extrinsic toughening mechanisms in HERALL and ARALL were examined, the crack bridging behavior of fibers was analyzed by new algorithm, which measures crack bridging stress, and the crack bridging zone length was measured.

$PEO_{45}$-MeDMA를 이용한 m-aramid 섬유의 염색특성 (Dyeing Properties of m-Aramid Fibers Using $PEO_{45}$-MeDMA)

  • A diblock copolymer($PEO_{45}$-MeDMA) derived from [2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride(MeDMA) was synthesized and applied to the meta-aramid fibers. Meta-aramid fabric was pretreated with $PEO_{45}$-MeDMA and successfully dyed with acid dyes. The dyeability of this fabric was investigated and found to depend on the $PEO_{45}$-MeDMA concentration, pH, and dye concentration. The color fastness properties of the copolymer pretreated dyed fabric was evaluated.

해수 열화 및 원공 손상 CF/Aramid 복합재의 패치 부착이 굽힘거동에 미치는 영향 (The Patch Attachment Effect for Bending Behavior on the CF/Aramid Composites with Seawater Aging and Hole Damage)

  • Fiber-reinforced composite materials with carbon, glass, and aramid fibers are widely applied to industrial field structures due to their excellent properties. However, carbon fibers are vulnerable to external impacts, whereas aramid fibers degrade when exposed to water. This study evaluated carbon/aramid fiber composites degraded and damaged by high-temperature saline environments using acoustic emission (AE). The test specimen was molded using an autoclave and immersed in seawater at 70 ℃ for 224 days. In order to imitate the damage, a 3-mm-diameter hole was drilled using a diamond drill. Additionally, the specimen with the perforation was repaired by patch attachment processing. Three-point bending was used to conduct the flexural experiment, and an AE sensor with a 150-kHz resonance frequency was attached to evaluate the damage and the effect of patch attachment. AE accumulative counts obtained at the maximum load were 69.2, 67.1, and 91.2 for a high-temperature seawater deteriorated condition, a hole specimen, and a repaired patch specimen, respectively. Furthermore, the maximum amplitude of AE was detected at low values of 28 dB, 31.3 dB, and 30.3 dB.

m-Aramid Films in Diverse Coagulants

  • m-Aramid dissolved in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), were coagulated in different coagulants such as water, methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol. Various concentrations and temperatures of the coagulants were also used to evaluate dyeing properties of coagulated m-aramid films. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed to investigate the surface morphology of m-aramid films. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) was conducted in order to measure crystallinity change of mcaramid fibers and films. WAXD patterns showed that crystallinity of m-aramid fibers was reduced after film formation. In addition, color depth (K/S value) was measured and the results revealed that the film coagulated in water possessed fairly enhanced color depth.

Thermal effects on the mechanical properties of cement mortars reinforced with aramid, glass, basalt and polypropylene fibers

  • In this study, thermal effects on the mechanical properties of cement mortars with some types of fibers is investigated. The replaced fibers were made of polypropylene (PP), aramid, glass and basalt. In other words, the main goal of this paper is to study the effects of different fibers on the mechanical properties of cement mortars after subjecting to normal and sub-elevated temperatures. The experimental tests used for investigating these effects were compressive, splitting tensile, and four-point bending tests at 20, 100 and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively. Moreover, the microstructures of the specimens in different temperatures were investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Based on the experimental results, the negative effects of sub-elevated temperatures on four-point bending tests were much more than the others. Moreover, using the fibers with higher melting points could not improve the qualities of the samples in sub-elevated temperatures.

복합재료의 고체 로켓 모터 케이스 적용 리뷰 (Review of the Composite Materials Application to the Solid Rocket Motor Cases)

  • 본 논문은 고체 추진기관 로켓 모터 케이스에 사용된 복합재료에 대하여 사례와 발전 추세를 조사하였다. 기본적으로 모터케이스는 강인하고 고압에 견뎌야 하며, 가벼워야 한다. 이에 부응하는 소재로 복합재료가 효율적인 재료로서 대두되어 유리섬유, 아라미드 그리고 탄소 섬유가 순차적으로 적용되었다. 모터 케이스 효율을 탄소섬유, 아라미드, D6AC강 등을 비교한 결과 탄소섬유가 가장 우수하고 고강도 탄소섬유를 사용하면 탑재용량이 20% 이상 증가시킬 수 있는 것으로 조사되었다.
