Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) was filled with glass fiber (GF), aramid fiber (AF), and solid lubricants to improve the mechanical properties and wear resistance. The addition of GF effectively enhanced the tensile strength, flexural modulus, and impact strength of PPS, while solid lubricants such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), molybdenum disulfide ($MoS_2$), and tungsten disulfide ($WS_2$) lowered the friction coefficients of the composites to below 0.3. The ball nut and motor pulley of the electric power steering (EPS) were manufactured using the PPS composites, and feasibility was ascertained thereafter by conducting the durability test. The composites filled with GF and AF showed high mechanical strength, but slip occurred at the interface between the pulley and belt while testing above $50^{\circ}C$. When small amounts of lubricants were added, the slip was no longer detected because of the suppression of friction heat. It is realized that the low friction as well as high mechanical properties is important to ensure the reliability of plastic pulleys.

The curing acceleration of epoxy/amine system was investigated by using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), The epoxy, diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) was cured with methylene dianiline (MDA) with or without accelerators. Two kinds of accelerators were tested for the study ; tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol (DMP - 30) and 3 - (3,4 - dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethylurea (DIURON). Heats of reaction and glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of the cured epoxy system were analyzed by DSC along with the estimation of activation energy by the dynamic DSC studies. It was found that DMP - 30 is more effective accelerator than DIURON which showed faster curing and lower activation energy.
Previous researches showed that confined concrete with Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sheets significantly improves the strength and ductility of concrete compared with unconfined concrete. However, the retrofit design of concrete with FRP materials requires an accurate estimate of the performance enhancement due to the confinement mechanism. The object of this research is to predict the compressive strength and strain of concrete confined with FRP wraps. For the purpose of this research, 102 test specimens were fabricated and loaded statically under uniaxial compression. Axial load, axial and lateral strains were investigated to predict the ultimate stress and strain. Also, to achieve reliability of proposed strength and strain models for FRP-confined concrete, another series of uniaxial compression test results were used. This paper presents strength and strain models for FRP-confined concrete. The proposed models to estimate the ultimate stresses and failure strains produce satisfactory predictions as compared to current design equations. In conclusion, it is proposed that the modified stress-strain model of concrete cylinders could be effectively used for the repair and retrofit of concrete columns.

Carbon, Aramid, Boron and Glass fibers are used as fibrous materials to promote structural bearing strength. Of these fiber types, carbon fiber is the most commonly used material, and is characterized by having a one-way direction, which is strengthened by tensile strength due to the attached direction only, while other types of fibers are two-way. Therefore, when applied in the field, the attachment direction of fiber is a very important factor. However, when fiber direction is not mentioned in the design drawing, there sometimes is no improvement in structural strength, as the fiber is being installed by a site engineer or workers who lack structural knowledge. The purpose of this study was to propose an optimal direction of carbon fiber through a comparison & analysis of reinforcing efficiency with reinforced experimental columns that used carbon fibers in each of the inclined, horizontal and vertical directions. According to the results, horizontal direction in the reinforced column was improved by 153.43%, but vertical direction was 104.61% only, and it was understood this was due to increased tensile strength along the fiber direction. For this reason, it is necessary to include information regarding fiber direction in design and site management.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect according to the fiber type and combination on the reinforcement of heat-polymerized denture base resin. The heat-polymerized resin(Vertex RS, Dentimax, Netherlands) was used in this study. Glass fiber(GL; ER 270FW, Hankuk Fiber Glass, Korea), polyaromatic polyamide fiber(PA; aramid; Kevlar-49, Dupont, U.S.A.) and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber(PE, polyethylene; P.E, Dong Yang Rope, Korea) were used to reinforce the denture base resin specimens. The final size of test specimen was $64mm{\times}10mm{\times}3.3mm$. The specimens of each group were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 50 hours before measurement. The flexural strength and flexural modulus were measured by an universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany) at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min in a three-point bending mode. In this study, all fibers showed reinforcing effects on denture base resin(p<0.05). In terms of flexural strength and flexural modulus, glass fiber 5.3 vol.% showed most effective reinforcing effect on heat polymerized denture base resin. For flexural modulus, PA/GL was the highest in denture base resin specimen for hybrid FRC using two combination (p<0.05). Glass fiber 5.3 vol.% and PA/GL are considered to be applied effectively in reinforcing the heat polymerized denture base resin.

Friction characteristics of automotive friction materials according to the types of phenolic resin were investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Four different simplified friction materials bound with Bakelite$^{TM}$ and Xylok$^{TM}$ phenolic resin were studied in this work. Two different modes of drag test(constant initial temperature test and constant interval test) were employed to analyze the effects of the binders on friction characteristics. Friction materials containing modified Xylok$^{TM}$ resin showed good heat resistance and friction stability. The results also showed that aramid fiber played important roles in improving friction stability and weard wear

This paper deals with the experimental evaluation of the performance of R.C beams strengthened with aramid, glass and carbon fiber sheets. To evaluate the effects of FRPs on the flexural strengthening of the beams, strengthening ratio is adopted as a main variable. Seven beams were fabricated and strengthened under same tensile strength based on ultimate strength of FRPs and strengthening length. Deflection, flexural stiffness, strain of FRP, ultimate load and failure load are compared to evaluate the effects of FRPs on structural behavior of retrofitted beams. The results shows that little effects of FRPs on behavior of strengthened beams can be estimated and the fail modes are more influenced on structural behavior than that.

Nominal flexural strength of RC members strengthened with FRP sheets is generally based on the tensile strength of composite materials obtained from coupon tests. This method is based on the assumption that bond failure does not occur until the FRP sheet reaches its rupture strength. According to the previous researches, however, bond failure often occurs before the FRP sheet reaches its rupture strength. Some attempts were made to control debonding failure by increasing the bonded length of sheet or wrapping the section around their side of the member(U-wrap). In this study, the flexural failure mechanism of RC beams strengthened with AFRP sheets with different bond lengths is investigated. Their strengthening details to prevent the premature debonding failure are also suggested and its effectiveness is verified.

Due to the low elastic modulus of FRP, concrete members reinforced with FRP rebars show greater deflections than members reinforced with steel rebars. Deflection is one of the important factors to consider the serviceability of horizontal members. In this study flexural test of AFRP reinforced concrete beams was performed considering reinforcement ratio and compressive strength as parameters. The test results indicated that flexural capacity and stiffness increase in proportion to the reinforcement ratio. The test results were compared with existing proposed equations for the effective moment of inertia including ACI 440. The most of the proposed equations were found to over-estimate the effective moment of inertia while the equation proposed by Bischoff and Scanlon (2007) most accurately predicted the values obtained through actual testing.
Aluminum/Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(Al/AFRP) laminates are applied to the fuselage-wing intersection. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the delamination zone behavior of Al/AFRP with a saw-cut and circular hole using average stress criterion and the effect of notch geometry. Mechanical tests were carried out to determine the cyclic-bending moment and delamination zone observed ultrasonic C-scan pictures. In case of Al/AFRP containing saw-cut specimen, the shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack. However, in case of Al/AFRP containing circular hole specimen, the shape and size of delamination zone formed two types. first type, delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack. Second type, not observed fatigue crack. Therefore, delamination zone was formed dependently of the circular hole shape.
