Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aqua-noodles on the practice of underwater walking in patients with hemiplegia. Method: After an oral explanation and signing an IRB approved consent form 10 participants ($66.8{\pm}10.75yr$, $165.3{\pm}8.79cm$, $73.6{\pm}46kg$) agreed to participate in this study. Each of the participants was required to walk with the aqua noodles and without the aqua-noodles in a swimming pool. Each participant was asked to walk a distance of 5 m a total of 10 times, 5 with and 5 without the aqua-noodles. The depth of the swimming pool was at 1.3 m, approximately chest height. The following variables were calculated for analysis; height of the knee (m), knee joint ROM ($^{\circ}$), ankle joint ROM ($^{\circ}$), knee joint maximum angular velocity ($^{\circ}/sec$), and ankle joint maximum angular velocity ($^{\circ}/sec$). Results: First, there was a significant increase in time (s) for the maximum knee height to reach as well as the maximum knee height (m) increased when the participant used the aqua-noodles. Second, there was a statistically significant decrease in stride length when the aqua-noodles were used. Conclusion: This study helps to verify that the effect of underwater walking exercise can provide a suitable walking exercise environment. The results of this study provide systematic scientific information about how walking in water can be used for the rehabilitation of patients and the elderly.

In order to investigate the effect of Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture on the hypogonadism in male rats, hydrocortisone acetate was adminsterd per mouse to induce hypogonadism and a series of Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture and normal saline aqua-acupuncture treatments were done into the loci corresponding to Shinsu($BL_{23}$) for 10 days. The level of urinary 17-ketosteroids. serum FSH, prolactin, LH, testosterone and body weight were measured. The obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. The level of urinary 17-ketosteroids was increased by Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group. 2. The level of serum FSH was increased by Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group. 3. The level of serum prolactin was increased by Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group. 4. The level of serum LH was increased by Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group. 5. The level of serum testosterone was decreased by Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group. 6. Body weight change was increased by 3rd, 6th and 9th day after the Cervus elaphus aqua-acupuncture and 3rd,6th day after normal saline aqua-acupuncture with the statistical significance as compared with the control group.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aqua exercise on women 50 years of age or older with knee degenerative arthritis, and then examining the therapeutic value of aqua exercise in degenerative arthritis of the knee. The subjects of the study were 115 residents 50 years of age or older who had been diagnosed as degenerative arthritis of the knee by doctors from medical institutions and applied for the aqua exercise program in the Public Health Care Center in Suseong-gu in 2006 and 2007. Experiments were conducted to all the subjects with the application of the 8-week aqua exercise program (2 times a week, 50 minutes a time), designed in the study, and the differences before and after the aqua exercise were compared through questionnaires for measuring the state of the body such as the knee extension angles, weight, body fat, and abdominal obesity. The data was analyzed by t-test and the Wilcoxon method through SPSS 14.0 and the statistical significance level ${\alpha}$ was set at 0.05 and 0.01. The results of the study are as the following. First, In comparison of before and after the aqua exercise, there was improvement in the extension angle of the right knee(p<0.01), while there was some improvement in the extension angle of the left knee, it was not significant. Second, In comparison of before and after the aqua exercise there were statistically significant differences in weight(p<0.05), body fat ratio, and abdominal obesity(p<0.01). The results of this study showed that the aqua exercise program to female patients with knee degenerative arthritis significantly increased the extension angle of the knee. Therefore it is thought that aqua exercise is an effective meditating method to improve their symptoms of female patients 50 years of age or older

Experimental studies were done to research the dinical effects of Juglandis Semen aqua-acupuncture and acupuncture(BL 13) on the anti-allergic response. anaphylaxis provoked by the compound 48/80, delayed type hypersensitivity response to picryl chloride and SASC and inflammation response to egg albumin. The following results have been obtained: Juglandis Semen aqua-acupuncture and acupuncture(BL13) group were increased the survival rate in compound48/80 induced systemic anaphylactic reaction. Picryl chloride induced contact dermatitis and delayed type hypersensitivity in SRBC challenged mouse were significantly decreased in Juglandis Semen aqua-acupuncture and acupuncture (BL13) group. Inflammation response - WBC, CRP and Nitric Oxide in egg albumin induced allergic rat were significantly decreased in Juglandis Semen aqua-acupuncture and acupuncture(BL13) group. According to the above results, Semen aqua-acupuncture and acupuncture(BL13) both depress the allergy reaction.

Effects of Samhwangsasimtang aqua-acupuncture at gansoo($B_{18}$) and chungwan($CV_{12}$) on antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant were investigated in rat fed high fat diet. Concentrations of triglyceride, free fatty acids, lipoprotein and glucose in plasma showed a tendency to decrease in the aqua-acupuncture groups. In plasma lipid composition, total cholesterol and LDL- cholesterol showed a tendency to decrease in aqua-acupuncture groups, however the values of HDL-cholesterol showed no significantly different in the treatment groups. Concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) in plasma and liver showed a low in the aqua-acupuncture groups. The values of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) and catalase(CAT) activity showed a tendency to increase in aqua-acupuncture groups. However the values of superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity showed no significantly different in the treatment groups.

The effect of Cervi Cornu Parvum aqua-acupuncture on serum levels of sex hormone was investigated in ovariectomized rats. Water extract of Cervi Cornu Parvum was daily injected for 30 days at points in rats corresponding to bilateral Taixi (Ki. 3) points of human and non-point at root of tail after ovariectomy, respectively. Serum levels of estradiol, testosterone, progesterone, LH and FSH were measured at 2 and 4 weeks after aqua-acupuncture treatment, respectively. Compared with ovariectomized rats, significant increase of estradiol and progesterone and significant decrease of FSH and LH were elicited at 2 and 4 weeks after aqua-acupuncture treatment. Aqua-acupuncture treatment at non-point did not produce any remarkable effect. These findings suggest aqua-acupuncture may restore dysfunction of hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, associated with a significant increase of serum estradiol level in ovariectomized rats.

Purpose: In order to study the therapeutic effect of TBR(Smilacis glabrae Rhizoma) aqua-acupuncture on the $HgCI_2$(mercury bichloride) intoxicated kidneys of rats. Methods: 10% TBR extract solution was aqua-punctured into the bilateral loci of Shin-su(BL23), every other day for 18 days, and the amount of leucocytes, erythrocytes, thrombocytes, hematocrit, hemoglobin, serum BUN and creatinine levels were measured and renal mercury level and histopathological findings were studied as well. The experimental groups were into nonmaI group, control group, sample I group, sample II group and sample III group. Results: 1. There were not any significant changes of leucocytes, erythrocytes and serum creatinine level in the TBR aqua-acupuncture group, saline aqua-acupuncture group and TBR aqua-acupuncture group respectively as compared with control group. 2. It showed a significant increase of hematocrit and hemoglobin level in the TBR aqua-acupuncture group on the 8th experimental day as compared with the control group. 3. It showed a significant increase of platelet in the TBR aqua-acupuncture group on the 8th experimental day, whereas significant decreases on the 18th experimental day as compared with the control group. 4. It showed a significant decrease of serum BUN level in the TBR aqua-acupuncture group on the 8th and 18th experimental day as compared with the control group. 5. It showed a significant decrease of renal mercury level in the TBR aqua-acupuncture group on compared with the control group. 6. In the histopathological findings, TBR aqua-acupuncture group showed slight atrophy of the renal tubules, mitosis and regeneration of tubular lining cells with visible nuclei, whereas the control group showed acute tubular necrosis, especially severe necrosis of tubular epithelial cells. Conclusions: Smilacis glabrae Rhizoma aqua-acupuncture on injured kidneys Induced by HgCl2 Intoxication in Rats increases hematocrit, hemoglobin and platelet level, and decreases BUN, renal mercury level. This suggests that Smilacis glabrae Rhizoma aqua-acupuncture helps to recover kidney from HgCl2 intoxication.

The aim of the experiments was to investigate the effect of Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 20(脾兪) and BL 23(賢兪) on the blood pressure, plasma renin activity, plasma levels of aldosterone and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The results of this study were as follows: 1. Systolic blood pressure was decreased significantly after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 20, BL 23. 2. Plasma renin activity was increased significantly after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at meridian point BL 23, BL 20. 3. Plasma levels of aldosterone was increased significantly after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 20. 4. Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) was increased significantly after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 23, but it was decreased significantly after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 20. These results suggest that the changes of the depressor response after Semen Cuscutae aqua-acupuncture at the meridian point BL 20, BL 23 are related to the changes of the plasma renin activity, plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and aldosterone.

The study was performed to investigate the effect of Houttuyniae herba Aqua- acupuncture on immune responses in irradiated rats. The results are as follows; 1. In the assay of peripheral lymphocytes, Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture showed protective effect on peripheral lymphocytes from irradiation. 2. In the assay of $CD_4\;&\;CD_8$ T lymphocytes, Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture showed pretective effect on $CD_4\;and\;CD_8$ T lymphocytes from irradiation with no stastistical significance. 3. In the assay of spleen lymphocytes, Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture showed pretective effect on lymphocytes from irradiation with stastistical significance. 4. In the assay of spleen $CD_4$ T lymphocytes, Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture showed pretective effect on $CD_4$ T lymphocytes from irradiatian with stastistical significance. 5. In the study of $CD_8$ T lymphocytes, Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture showed pretective effect on $CD_4$ T lymphocytes from irradiation with no stastistical significance These results show that Houttuyniae herba aqua-acupuncture is an effective therapy upon immune deficiency induced by irradiation.

As dietary intakes levels of Calcium decrease below those recommended by health authorities the incidence of Osteoporosis is set to continue to rise. To address this issue it is becoming necessary to fortify regularly consumed foods such as cereals, biscuits etc. with ingredients such as AquaCal. AquaCal is a natural, organic source of calcium that is produced from calcified seaweed, Phymatolithon and Lithothamnion and can be utilised for Calcium and magnesium supplementation in a broad range of foods and beverages. AquaCal presents a great potential over other calcium sources because of its porous structure and it composition associating key minerals as calcium, magnesium and boron in addition to being neutral in taste in applications. Once consumed the efficacy of AquaCal must then be verified therefore a bioavailability a comparative feeding study to assess effects of AquaCal on bone density was carried out. There was no significant difference in bioavailability based on calcium absorption between AquaCal and Limestone however the weights of the femurs of the animals fed AquaCal did significantly increase over the group fed Limestone. As a natural and organic mineral AquaCal has many different fields of application.
