Recently, USN applications are in the early stage of commercialization. But, there are still several problems to develop USN applications. It is mainly due to the current development scheme that solution vendors makes all of them including HW, SW, sensor modules. The development of USN applications could be revitalized if three entities such as PC platform developers, PC device vendors, and application developers would do their best as in PC development. In this paper, we suggest an sensor node platform architecture supporting sensor independency to overcome the difficulty of developing USN applications. Traditional platforms like Tiny-OS and Nano-Q+ do not support such sensor independency. At first, we present a unified API for sensor independency, and also suggest an architecture to support sensor independancy. Our architecture results in the revitalization of developing USN applications.
Basidiomycetous fungi are one of the most potent biodegraders because many of its species grow on dead wood or litter, in environments rich in lignocellulose. For the degradation of lignocellulose, basidiomycetes utilize their lignocellulytic enzymes, which typically include laccase (EC 1.10.3.2), lignin peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.14), xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), and cellulase (EC 3.2.1.4). In recent years, the practical applications of basidiomycetes have ranged from the textile to the pulp and paper industries, and from food applications to bioremediation processes and industrial enzymatic saccharification of biomass. Recently, spent mushroom substrates of edible mushrooms have been used as sources of bulk enzymes to decolorize synthetic dyes in textile wastewater. In this review, the occurrence, mode of action, general properties, and production of lignocellulytic enzymes from mushroom species will be discussed. We will also discuss the potential applications of these enzymes.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an established technology and has the potential, in a variety of applications, to significantly reduce cost and improve performance. As RFID-enabled applications will fulfill similar tasks across a range of processes adapted to use the data gained from RFID tags, they can be considered as software products derived from a common infrastructure and assets that capture specific ions in the domain. This paper discusses a framework that supports the development of RFID-enabled applications based on a business process family model (BPFM), explicitly representing both commonalities and variabilities. To develop this framework, common activities are identified from RFID-enabled applications and the variabilities in the common activities are analyzed in detail using variation point concepts. Through this framework, RFID data is preprocessed, and thus, RFID-enabled applications can be developed without having to process RFID data. Sharing a common model and reusing assets to deploy recurrent services may be considered an advantage in terms of economic significance and the overall product quality afforded.
To support UDP-based real-time multimedia applications over the Internet, it is necessary to provide a certain amount of bandwidth within the network so that the performance of the applications will not be seriously affected during periods of congestion. Since the flow rates of some of these applications do not back of during periods of congestion, it is also necessary to protect flow-controlled TCP flows from unresponsive or aggressive UDP flows. To achieve these goals, we propose a simple queue policy to support multimedia applications, called threshold-based queue management (TBQM). TBQM isolates UDP flows efficiently from TCP flows to protect TCP flows while supporting bandwidth requirements of UDP applications that require QoS. In addition, TBQM supports drop fairness between TCP flows without maintaining per-flow state. We also present some experimental results to show that the proposed queue policy can work well.
Most Android applications are being developed by one or a few person without professional testing team. In such a poor development environment, applications may contain severe errors which may also affect the Android platform. In order to detect these errors, the behaviors of Android activities should be identified by considering user-defined lifecycle as well as the system-defined one. This paper proposes a method to generate test scenarios based on the both of user-defined and system-defined activity lifecycle of Android GUI applications. The test scenarios are generated by a state diagram extracted from the source code and are transformed into Jython scribes by using GUI layout information for automatically performing testing.
As the web technologies advance, most of applications have being developed as web applications. The web has advantages of high interoperability due to the web standards though the applications run on heterogenous platforms. However, as the systems are growing and have some interoperability problems, the government and the big companies require interoperability testing for new systems. In this paper, we introduce some interoperability issues for web applications and classify them into three groups according to 3-tier client/server architecture. We also propose interoperability testing process and tasks to be performed at each step in the process.
Software as a service (SaaS) is one of the most-talked about trends in IT. Unlike traditional perpetual licensing model, software applications are sold on subscription bases and services are provided over web by the vendors. It is said that SaaS can make vendors to invest more on R&D than on marketing while offering its customers better quality software applications at lower costs. By empirically comparing vendors providing their software applications either by SaaS or by traditional perpetual licensing model, we examine whether or not SaaS really increases overall customer benefits in terms of cost efficiency, software quality, and customization. We show that SaaS may not provide better quality or cost efficient software applications than perpetual licensing does. Then we provide two practical tools which are useful for customers to evaluate whether SaaS is better than perpetual licensing for the purposes of software applications they want to adopt.

This paper described some applications using Open GIS Component that was called MapBase. There were 4 applications : KSDI(Korea Spatial Data Infrastructure) funded by MOIC(Ministry of Information and Communication), National Plants Resource Management System supported by Korea Forest Service, 7-Underground Facilities Management System of Cheongju funded by MOCT(Ministry of Construction and Transportation), and National Disaster Management System supported by MOGAHA(Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. Because they wanted to access heterogeneous spatial database, it was necessary to select MapBase as their base methodology. The main feature of MapBase was component S/W which provided the interoperability and reusability among GIS applications as well as non-GIS information system through common specification. In this paper, we showed some applications' architectures and functions to increase understanding MapBase. That would help you to make application using MapBase.

GRAM++ is a collection of software packages for geographic information system (GIS) applications, developed indigenously at the Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering (CSRE), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. This software is now being used for a number of GIS applications that assist decision makers in taking informed decisions. Some of these applications include simulation of the spatial impact of raising height of dam and assessment of the costs and benefits; identifying sites suitable for inland aquaculture and validation with existing sites; developing resource profiles and computation of human development indices for prioritized development; land suitability analysis for agriculture applications.
Motivated by the emergency scheduling in a transportation network, this paper considers a transportation problem, in which, the truck times and transportation costs are assumed as uncertain variables. To meet the demand in the practical applications, two optimization objectives are considered, one is the total costs and another is the completion times. And then, a multi-objective optimization model is developed according to the situation in applications. Because there are commensurability and conflicting between the two objectives commonly, a solution does not necessarily exist that is best with respective to the two objectives. Therefore, the problem is reduced to a single objective model, which is an uncertain programming with a chance-constrain. After some analysis, its equivalent deterministic form is obtained, which is a nonlinear programming. Based on a stepwise optimization strategy, a solution method is developed to solve the problem. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.
