  • This study, a sub-one of comprehensive research works titled under “Rural Resources Evaluation System”, tried to verify utility/applicability of the developed model system through the case study works on 3 sample villages, Backya, Uyan and Suyu, representing the lowland, upland and seashore villages respectively. From the various surveying and collecting works including the official/statistical data collection, map analysis, insitu investigation, field survey and written material review, the original data set were obtained and manipulated into final input data for resources grading. After then, by the automatized calculation procedure of “Rural Resources Evaluation System”, score results for resources evaluation were finally produced with the total maximum score being 1,000. Through comparing works among score results of 3 case villages and between score results and areal characteristics of each case village, the applicability of the system developed in this study was well confirmed.

  • Even for the same structure, the analysis results as well as design values might have differences depending on the selected analysis model. Therefore it is desirable to determin model considering the required accuracy of the analysis results, the given time restried economy. " Standard Specification for Roadway Bridges" Division V, Seismic Design prove "Single Mode Spectral Analysis Method" as the basic analysis method for the earthquake design of roadway bridges classified as "regular". In this study a 5 span steel box girl selected which satisfies the regularity and the applicability of the provided analysis simplified model in checked. For the comparision of the analysis results, "Multi-Mode Spect Method" is used with a detailed model.hod" is used with a detailed model.odel.

  • The aim of this study is to develop construction safety and health management cost prediction model using support vector machine (SVM). To this end, theoretical concept of SVM is investigated to formulate the cost prediction model. Input and output variables have been selected by analyzing the balancing accounts for the completed construction project. In order to train and validate the proposed prediction model, 150 data sets have been gathered from field. Effects of SVM parameters on prediction accuracy are analyzed and from which the optimal parameter values have been determined. The prediction performance tests are conducted to confirm the applicability of the proposed model. Based on the results, it is concluded that the proposed SVM model can effectively be used to predict the construction safety and health management cost.

  • A finite difference lattice Boltzmann model which allows us to simulate gas-liquid two-phase flows with large density difference, for instance, 800 times for air and water is considered. Two-particle model is used and the density difference is introduced by changing the acceleration according to the fluid density. Numerical measurement of surface tension agrees well with theoretical predictions. Simulations of two-phase phenomenon for phase-transition is carried out, showing applicability of the model for two-phase flows. The two-dimensional cavitating flow around a board set up in the fluid way is also simulated. As a result, it was confirmed that the FDLB method with two-particle model was effective in numerical simulation of cavitating flow and the bubble periodically grew up at the low pressure area behind the board, in which the fluid condition was influenced by the cavitation number.

  • Using the physics-based model for the vibration isolation system, the model uncertainties are described. With the model including parameter perturbations, the robust controller to meet the robust performance and stability is designed through $\mu$-synthesis by DK-iteration. The order of controller is reduced by virtue of Hankel norm approximation technique to allow the efficient implementation in the real-time experimental environment without any performance degradation. The performance of the reduced $\mu$-controller is accessed in comparison with the original one. The experiments validate the superiority of the proposed control scheme against the model uncertainties and its applicability with varying payload.

  • Almost every year, Korea has been suffered from serious damages of lives and properties, due to landslides that are triggered by heavy rains in monsoon season. In this paper, we systematized the physically based landslide prediction model which consisted of 3 parts, infinite slope stability analysis model, groundwater flow model and soil depth model. To evaluate its applicability to the prediction of landslides, the data of actual landslides were plotted on the predicted areas on the GIS map. The matching rate of this model to the actual data was $84.8\%$. And the relation between hydrological and land form factors and potential landslide were analyzed.

  • This study aimed to estimate applicability of a model to simulate circulation in estuarine lake caused by operation of drainage gates. The model consists of 2D (depth-averaged) hydrodynamic models, Delft3D-FLOW model and operation model for drainage gates. The flow through drainage gates was calculated using weir formulae with discharge coefficient, 0.8. The simulations are performed under two conditions: uncontrolled condition and controlled by periods of two days. The results on simulation of the model showed that the water level in estuarine lake was tend to increase above mean sea level. Therefore it was proved that the calibration and verification were needed in order to applicate this model for Saemankeum area.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the applicability of the HSPEXP model performance criteria for calibrating hydrologic parameters of HSPF. Baran watershed, located at Whasung city, was selected as a study watershed in this study. Input data for the HSPF model were obtained from the digital elevation map, landuse map, soil map and others. Water flow data from 1996 to 2000 was used for calibration and from 2002 to 2007 was for validation. Using the HSPEXP decision-support software, hydrology parameters were adjusted based on total volume, then low flows, storm flows, and finally seasonal flows. Suggested criteria for each model performance variables were referenced from the previous research. For the calibration period, all the HSPEXP model performance criteria were satisfied while two criteria were slightly violated for the validation period.

  • There are three types of frequency-domain loop-loop EM induction method, depending on the loop separation and their location relative to the ground surface: horizontal-loop EM (HLEM), fixed small-loop EM, and helicopter-borne EM (HEM) methods. Multidimensional inversion provides tomographic images of the subsurface resistivity structure and thus enhances the interpretational accuracy of loop-loop EM data. HLEM method is shown to be effective for exploring groundwater resources in weathered and fractured crystalline basement terrains in semi-arid regions. Also, HEM method is useful for locating weak zones in landslide areas. The applicability of inversion to small-loop EM data depends solely on the S/N ratio. The quadrature response of small-loop EM data can only give the equivalent conductivity of a homogenous half-space model, and thus the in-phase component is essential in inverting EM data. However, the in-phase response is much lower and decreases more rapidly with decreasing frequency than the quadrature response. Further work is needed to obtain conductivity-depth images from small-loop EM data.
