The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of morin, a flavonoid, on the pharmacokinetics of diltiazem and one of its metabolites, desacetyldiltiazem in rats. Pharmacokinetic parameters of diltiazem and desacetyldiltiazem were determined after oral administration of diltiazem (15 mg/kg) in rats pretreated with morin (1.5, 7.5, and 15 mg/kg). Compared with the control group (given diltiazem alone), pretreatment of morin significantly increased the absorption rate constant $(K_a)$ and peak concentration $(C_{max})$ of diltiazem (p<0.05, p<0.01). Area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of diltiazem in rats pretreated with morin were significantly higher than that in the control group (p<0.05, p<0.01), hence the absolute bioavailability $(AB\%)$ of diltiazem was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<0.05, p<0.01). Relative bioavailability $(RB\%)$ of diltiazem in rats pretreated with morin was increased by 1.36- to 2.03-fold. The terminal half-life $(t_{1/2})$ and time to reach the peak concentration $(T_{max})$ of diltiazem were not altered significantly with morin pretreatment. AUC of desacetyldiltiazem was increased significantly (p<0.05) in rats pretreated with morin at doses of 7.5 and 15 mg/kg, but metabolite-parent ratio (MR) of desacetyldiltiazem was decreased significantly (p<0.05), implying that pretreatment of morin could be effective to inhibit the CYP 3A4-mediated metabolism of diltiazem. There were no apparent changes of $T_{max}$ and $t_{1/2}$ of desacetyldiltiazem with morin pretreatment. Collectively, the pretreatment of morin significantly altered pharmacokinetics of diltiazem, which can be attributed to increased intestinal absorption as well as reduced first-pass metabolism. Based on these results, dose modification should be taken into consideration when diltiazem is used concomitantly with morin or morin-containing dietary supplements in clinical setting.

Porous structures of aluminum foam have been studied. The apparent foam shape, foam hight, density, pore size, shape, and their distributions in various section areas of the experimental samples have been investigated. The sample have been cast into metallic mold, using aluminum foam prepared from a precursor based on pure Al ingot mixed with various amount of 1-2wt% increasing viscosity and foam agent materials. The process provides for flexibility in design of foam structures via relatively easy control over the amount of hydrogen evolution and the drainage processes which occur during foam formation. This is facilitated by manupulating parameters such as the foaming agent, thermal histories during solidification and mix melt viscosities. The acoustical performance of the panel made with the foamed aluminum is considerably improved; its absorption coefficient shows NRC 0.6-0.8. It has been found that the Al foam is very preferable for the compactness of the thermal system.
The aerosol chemical components in $PM_{2.5}$ in several regions (Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, and Jeju Island) were investigated with regard to their concentration characteristics and optical properties. The optical properties of the various aerosol components (e.g., water-soluble, insoluble, Black Carbon (BC), and sea-salt) were estimated using hourly and daily aerosol sampling data from the study area via a modeling approach. Overall, the water-soluble component was predominant over all other components in terms of concentration and impact on optical properties (except for the absorption coefficient of BC). The annual mean concentration and Aerosol Optical Ddepth (AOD) of the water-soluble component were highest in Seoul (at the Gwangjin site) ($26{\mu}g/m^3$ and 0.29 in 2013, respectively). Further, despite relatively moderate BC concentrations, the annual mean absorption coefficient of BC ($21.7Mm^{-1}$) was highest in Busan (at the Yeonsan site) in 2013, due to the strong light absorbing ability of BC. In addition, high AODs for the water-soluble component were observed most frequently in spring and/or winter at most of the study sites, while low values were noted in summer and/or early fall. The diurnal variation in the AOD of each component in Seoul (at the Gwangjin site) was slightly high in the morning and low in the afternoon during the study period; however, such distinctions were not apparent in Jeju Island (at the Aweol site), except for a slightly high AOD of the water-soluble component in the morning (08:00 LST). The monthly and diurnal differences in the AOD values for each component could be attributed to the differences in their mass concentrations and Relative Humidities (RH). In a sensitivity test, the AODs estimated under RH conditions of 80 and 90% were factors of 1.2 and 1.7 higher, respectively, than the values estimated using the observed RH.

This study was done to investigate the effects of the incorporation of Achyranthes japonica extracts (AJE) in diet on the production parameters of growing pigs. Exp 1: Total, 105 crossbred pigs (average body weight: 24.47 ± 2.46 kg) were used in a 6-week feeding trial. Pigs (seven replicates, five pigs per pen) were allotted randomly to three treatments. Dietary treatments: CON (basal diet); basal diet with 0.025% AJE, and basal diet + 0.050% AJE). Growth performance, nutrient digestibility, fecal microbial count, and fecal noxious gas were assessed in this study. Average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), and gain to feed ratio (G:F) were not affected by the addition of up to 0.05% AJE. In the case of apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD), dry matter (DM), nitrogen (N), and digestible energy (DE) were not changed in 3rd and 6th weeks of the feeding trial through the addition of AJE up to 0.05% in the growing pig diet. In microbial count, Lactobacillus and Escherichia coli count at 3rd and 6th week was similar in all the treatment diets. The inclusion of AJE at levels up to 0.05% in growing pig diet had no effect on the production of NH3, H2S, acetic acid, and CO2 in the feces. After ending the Exp 1, a total of nine pigs were divided into three treatment groups. Treatment diets were included, TRT1, basal diet + powder quercetin 30 g; TRT2, basal diet + powder quercetin 150 g; TRT3, basal diet + powder quercetin 300g. Rate of absorption in blood was increased with the higher dose of quercetin. The results suggested incorporation of AJE up to 0.05% has no significant effect on ADG, ADFI, and G:F, as well as DM, N, and DE digestibility, fecal microbial count, and fecal noxious gas emission in growing pigs, even though no negative effect was found.
A study was conducted to measure nitrogen intake and excretion in young korean women on their normal diet and leading normal activity level. Dietary survey by food record, fecal and urinary samples were collected for 3 days in 19 healthy female college students in Korea. On one of the 3 days, duplicate of one-day diet was collected from each subjects. Mean daily intakes of energy and protein were calculated from food recorded. Duplicate diet samples and pooled fecal samples were analyzed for N content. Pooled urine samples were analyzed for total N, urea N, and creatinine content. Apparent N absorption, apparent N balance and urea N/creatinine N were calculated to evaluate protein nutritional status. The results obtained are summarized as following ; 1) Accordingly to food record, mean daily intakes of energy, protein, carbohydrate and far were 1535.2 $\pm$53.78Kcal, 55.95$\pm$2.97g(total nitrogen 8.95$\pm$0.45g), 254.13$\pm$10.31g and 39.24$\pm$2.76 g, providing 14.6%, 66.2%, 19.2% of total energy respectively. 2) Nitrogen intake by chemical analysis was 7.16$\pm$0.31g/day (protein 44.75$\pm$1.94kg/day) providing 82.39$\pm$4.58% of nitrogen intake by food record. The difference of total nitrogen intake between food record and chemical analysis in diets was significant(p<0.05). 3) Mean daily fecal nitrogen excretion was 1.38$\pm$0.10g and then mean apparent digesbility of protein was 80.53$\pm$5.21%. 4) Mean daily urinary nitrogen excretion, urea N excretion and creatinine excretion were 6.03$\pm$0.30g, 4.52$\pm$0.22g, and 0.88$\pm$0.04g respectively. Urinary urea nitrogen was 75.2$\pm$1.38% of total urinary nitrogen excretion and urinary nitrogen was 85.4$\pm$3.56% of total nitrogen intake by chemical analysis. 5) Mean urea N/creatinine N ration was 14.01$\pm$0.77. 6) Mean nitrogen balance was -0.244$\pm$0.33g/day. From the above results, it is concluded that the subjects in this study seem to be in marginal protein nutritional status and therefore should increase dietary protein intake.

Physicochemical properties of rice-based expanded snacks extruded with rice flour, high amylose starch, and isolated soy protein were investigated using a twin-screw extruder. The ingredients were extruded at various feed moisture contents (19~23%) and screw speeds (200~400 rpm) at a constant feed rate (43.4 kg/hr). Bulk density and apparent density of rice snacks were 0.06~0.21, and 0.55~0.65 respectively. Bulk density, apparent density, water absorption index, and breaking strength of rice snacks increased with increasing feed moisture content and decreasing screw speed. However, expansion and water solubility index of rice snacks increased with decreasing feed moisture content and increasing screw speed. Hunter's color L values of rice snacks was lower with increasing screw speed at feed moisture contents of 19% and 21%, but was not significantly different from a feed moisture content of 23%. On the other hand, a and b values of rice snacks were higher with increasing screw speed a feed moisture content of 19%. X-ray diffraction intensity of rice snacks decreased with decreasing feed moisture content and increasing screw speed. X-ray diffraction of rice snacks was V-type at feed moisture contents of 19% and 21% and screw speeds of 300, and 400 rpm. In the microstructure of the cross section of rice snacks, air cells in rice snacks were not well formed, and cell walls were thicker with increasing feed moisture content and decreasing screw speed.
Solvatochromic effects and hydrogen bonding interactions of 4-hydroxy-4'-nitrostilbene(NSOH) were investigated. Electronic transition energies of NSOH have good correlation with Taft's $\pi$$^*$. The hydrogen bonding interactions can be accounted by analysis with equation of $\Delta$E= $\Delta$E$_0$ + s($\pi$$^*$ + d$\delta$) + a$\alpha$ + b$\beta$. From UV-visible absorption maximum energies, $\Delta$E = 81.2 kcal/mole - 6.66($\pi$$^*$ - 0.20$\delta$) - 0.66$\alpha$ - 1.93$\beta$ (corr.=0.970) was obtained, and from fluorescence intensity maximum energies, $\Delta$E= 70.07 kcal/mole - 21.6($\pi$$^*$ - 0.11d) - 1.74$\alpha$ - 2.73$\beta$ (corr.=0.947) was obtained. The micropolarity estimated at the solubilization sites is close to the polarity of water. The apparent Taft's $\pi$$^*$ values of solubilization sites are close to 1. Howcver, the solubilization sites for the fluorescent NSOH is rather nonpolar. Both NSOH and NSO$^-$ can be solubilized in CTAB and CTAC micelles and NSOH is the only species that can be solubilized in SDS and Brij-35 micelles.
When anesthetics were added to a bacteriorhodopsin (bR) in the purple membranes, the 570 nm absorption band shifts to 480 nm. This anesthetic-induced spectroscopic change is reversible. The apparent pKa (6.3) of this equilibrium depends on the nature of the anesthetics in which bR is dispersed. The electric orientation measurements showed that the native bR is easily achieved by relatively small electric field which is oriented at $60^\circ$, while anesthetic-treated bR is not the case. These results demonstrate that the subtle changes in the chromophore and the protein structure surrounding the chromophore by anesthetics influence the spatial orientation of the charged residues in the protein matrix surrounding chromophore.
This study was carried out to research the change of mineral phases and the characteristics (apparent specific gravity, water absorption, firing shrinkage and thermal expansion etc) of the sintered bodies composed of larnite, wollastonite and anorthite etc. in $CaO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ system. Test bodies were composed of the same theoretical composition as it of anorthite and fired up to $1450^{\circ}C$. Investigated the change and micro-structure of the mineral phases by XRD and SEM, the characteristics of the sintered bodies by DTA/TGA and etc. The results were as follows. 1. The sintering temperature had a higher about $60^{\circ}C$ than that of $CaO-SiO_2$ system because of coexisting $Al_2O_3$. 2. The formation and transition temperature of $\beta$-wol lastonite and $\alpha$-wollastonite were similar to the results of $CaO-SiO_2$ system. 3. The formed larnite and wollastonite were decomposed and melted at about $1260^{\circ}C$. 4. Anorthite began to be synthesized at $1140^{\circ}C$, its quantity was repidly increased according to the temperature rising.
The purpose of this study was to investigate Na and K balances in healthy adult women. Anthropometric assessments, biochemical analysis of blood, 3-day dietary flood records and collections of 3-day food, 24-hr urine and faces were performed to evaluate intakes and excretions of Na and K in 20 college women living in Seoul. The mean BMI and blood pressure of the subjects were 21.08 and 110.25/67.50mmHg, respectively. Mean daily intake of energy was 1578.84kcal, 79% of Korean RDA. Also, daily intakes of Na and K ware 120.86mEq and 44.20mEq. The urinary and fecal excretions of Na were 99.88 and 4.45mEq/day, and those of K were 30.41 and 8.66mEq/day, respectively. The body retention, retention rate, and apparent absorption of Na were 17.11mEq, 13.23%, and 96.31%, and those of K were 5.82mEq, 8.69%, and 80.12%, respectively. The urinary and fecal Na/K ratio were 3.48 and 0.52. There were significantly positive correlations between 1) urinary Na, K excretions and intakes of Na or K, 2) urinary K and BMI, 3) serum K and serum globulin, and 4) urinary Na excretion and serum haptoglobin level, respectively. The results of this study show that Na intake was higher and K intake was lower than those of other advanced nations. Therefore, nutrition education show instruct people to reduce Na intake and to increase K intake.
