The Positive Emotion Elicitation Process of Chinese Consumers Toward a U.S. Apparel Brand -A Cognitive Appraisal Perspective-

  • Emotion directly affects consumer buying behavior. This study examines Chinese consumers' emotion elicitation process toward a U.S. apparel brand in the Chinese market. Employing a cognitive appraisal theory, this study proposed and tested a conceptual model incorporating three factors of consumer global orientation as antecedents of consumer emotion and purchase intention as a consequence of emotion. Among the ten proposed hypotheses, eight were supported. Of the three antecedents of consumer emotion, exposure to global mass media and cultural openness positively increased Chinese consumers' appraisals of a U.S. apparel brand. Unlike these two antecedents, the effects of exposure to mass migration on consumer appraisals were found to be non significant. The relationships between appraisal dimensions and positive emotion were all supported. Finally, this study confirmed that positive emotions increased Chinese consumers' purchase intentions of a U.S. apparel brand. Theoretical and managerial implications were discussed based on the findings.

A Study on the Distribution Intensity for theWomen's Formal Wear Industry (여성의류 유통 집약도에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this paper was to look at the distribution intensity for the women's formal wear industry. Most of the previous works on the distribution design have stressed product characteristics and consumer's shopping behaviours. The firm especially in women's aopparel industry recently has had difficulty in how to decide and to select the distribution numbers in the domestic market. Thus five hypothesis were set based on the data in '98Korea Fashion Guide describing the brand of women's wear in detail. It has been published by Korea Fashion Association in 1997. The variables of this study were the price the total sale the launching period the target customer's age and brand origins related with domestic or foreign. 579 brands had been analyzed with percentage anova duncan's test pearson's correlation and t-test. the results were as follows: In general the higher the price of the product is the less intensive the distribution of the women's apparel industry is. The higher the total sale is and the younger the target customer's age is the more intensive the distribution of the women's apparel industry is Besides there is difference between the domestic brand and the foreign brand in the distribution intensity. There is no relationship between the launching period of the brand and the distribution intensity. In addition four brand types were classified into the national brand the designer brand the licensed brand and the imported brand. Satatistically variables have shown different relations in terms of each brand type.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese men's perception and satisfaction on Korean apparel products. The 1000 Questionnaires were distributed to Chinese men, and returned 863 questionnaires were analyzed by mean and percentage with SPSS 10.0. The results of this study were as follows: Chinese men had more perception on their own brand and Italy brand than UK, Korean, and Japan brand. Over age fifties of Chinese men preferred Korean brand to the other ages. Chinese men perceived positively Korean fashion products as more trendy, very creative, high-class, qualitative, expensive and creditable, otherwise, there were little famous brands among Koran apparel products. Chinese men satisfied on Korean apparel products positively, specially, age forties and fifties, resident from Harbin, income 2 and 3 level, and young casual mild group showed higher satisfaction on Korean apparel products than the others.

  • The purpose. of this study were to identify the types of consumer affective responses to investigate the attitude formation process on the apparel advertising and to identify the differences among related variables according to the sensation seeking and the brand famili-arity. The result of this study were as follows: 1. The consumer affective responses on ap-parel dvertising was composed of six dimensions; Upbeat feeling Negative feeling Warm feeling Sensual feeling Emotional feel-ing and Uninvolved feeling. 2. The related variables to consumer responses on apparel advertising were signifi-cant differences according to the sensation seeking and the brand familiarity. 3.   • The purpose of this study lies in giving help to the rational life of clothing of costmer and presenting some measures for solving problems of the fashion merchandising policy of children's ready-made clothes and the searching of feasibility of the children's ready-made clothes market in the wave of market liberalization. data for this study were obtained from interviews with managers in children's apparel company. The results are as follows : the most important change of children's ready-made clothes market is the increase in national brand license brand direct import brand and the variety of the channel of distri-bution. The most children's apparel companies showed double-edged viewpoints for these tendencies in the wave of market libera-lization. In therms of positive aspect it would give stimulus to improve product quality of fashion merchandise which were the most dis-advantageous factors in competing with oversea's brand. In terms of negative aspect it would bring the oversupply and the foreign product's penetration in domestic market. In order to improve the present condition the companies should try to establish strat-government should try to support to the small and medium sized apparel firms.

The Effects of Chinese Students' Lifestyle and Gender on Korean Apparel Brand Experience and Attitude (중국 유학생의 라이프스타일과 성별에 따른 한국 의류브랜드 체험과 태도에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines the lifestyle and gender effects of Chinese students in Korea on the Korean apparel brand experience. In addition, this study explores the effect of various brand experiences on attitudes toward Korean apparel brands. This study targets 355 Chinese university students who live in Korea. The results show that a Chinese students' lifestyle consists of four factors: adventure-seeking, sociability, individualism, and materialism. Brand experience consists of five different experiences: cognitive, affective, relational, sensory, and behavioral experience. Adventure-seeking lifestyle affects all five brand experiences and sociability influences sensory and relational experience. Individualism influences relational and behavioral experience; however, materialism affects four brand experiences (except sensory experience). Female students indicate a higher level of brand experience (except relational experience than) male students. Finally, three brand experiences (affective, sensory, and relational experience) impact brand attitude. Theoretical and managerial implications of the results are discussed along with limitations and future research directions.

  • This study investigates consumer's traits of market segmentation based on the apparel benefits. The subjects were 302 college students living in Yunnam, China. The mean, ANOVA, factor analysis, Duncan test, and K-means cluster analysis were used for statisticals analysis. The results of this study are as follows. The college students were classified, into six subdivisions, according to the apparel benefits by cluster analysis: indifference group, utility pursuit group, hedonic/brand pursuit group, individuality pursuit group, social recognition/fashion pursuit group, and pursuit benefits-minded group. In the factors of happiness-pursuing and life-centered of materialism, significant differences were found according to the groups of apparel benefits, and all factors of symbolic consumption and brand loyalty were found to have significant differences according to the groups of apparel benefits. The evaluation criteria of clothing were significantly different, depending on apparel benefits subdivision in criteria of aesthetic, socio-psychological, and utility. The use of information was shown to have significant differences, according to the groups of apparel benefits. The study results are highly expected to be utilized as useful sources in marketing plans for the midwest of China.

Consumer Attitude Formation on Private Apparel Brand (유통업체 의류 상표에 대한 소비자 태도 형성)

  • The strength of the PB(Private Brand) is that it can eliminate intermediary in the distribution channel and thoroughly control the quality under its own name. This study has developed traditional studies on private brand proneness in approaching data processing and empirical point of view of a consumer's attitude buildup process on PB through 'recognition-attitude-action(behavioral attitude)'. The subjects of this study are consumers in their $20s{\sim}40s$ who are main customer groups of PBs. A screening process has taken place to select consumers with purchasing experiences of retailor PBs. The data is analyzed by 'Structural Equation Modeling' of Amos 5.0 to verify consumer attitude formation model on private apparel brand. The results generated from this study are as follows: First, the proposed consumer attitude model on private apparel brand consists of store evaluation, experiential product evaluation, cognitive product evaluation, hedonic attitude, utilitarian attitude and purchase intention. Second, not only positively influence on utilitarian attitude but hedonic attitude can arouse positive emotional reaction of a consumer. Third, the store evaluation is ahead of the product evaluation because PB is more related to the image of a store. The influence of the store on PB is relatively stronger when compared with NB.

  • This study was initiated to study suitability of the apparel sizing systems that utilized in women's ready-to-wear market. To achieve this, the researchers surveyed 383 women from the ages of 18 through 59. The result of this study are followed. 1) The targeted age of the apparel brand does not always correspond with the purchaser's age. The subjects tend to prefer the brands targeting younger women than their age. The women who prefer the brand targeting younger women than their age were less satisfied with the jacket size available in Korean apparel market. They also took into consideration their body size. 2) The subjects who prefer the brands aimed for younger women were dissatisfied with fit at waist and hips. 3) The result of this study also shows that the more sizes are needed for short and tall women. The subjects pointed out that hips of the pants gave worst fit. 4) KS standard size designation system which listed body measurements bust-hips stature was not well known to the consumers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the prior knowledge, the market position and negative information of the alliance apparel product on consumer attitude including preference, purchase intent and utility. Smart wear with MP3 was selected for the alliance apparel product. Negative information was manipulated into two types-product related and brand related negative information. 251 subjects participated for the study. For the data analysis, reliability test and three way analysis of variance were conducted. The results showed that when the partner brand has the higher market position, subjects with high prior knowledge revealed preference for the alliance apparel product more. When the partner brand has the higher market position, the subjects who were given the negative information on the alliance apparel product reported preference and utility more than the ones who were given the negative information on the company. The findings of the study imply that apparel industries should make an effort to establish the positive corporate image as well as to produce high quality apparel product. Also marketers should provide consumers with the knowledge about brand new alliance apparel product.
