The study to obtain tantalum concentration from electronic components (ECs) on Printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) of laptop was conducted. Electronic components on laptop PCBA were detached from boards by using self-developed experimental apparatus. The detached electronic components were sieved and 93.2 wt.% of tantalum capacitors were concentrated from the size interval from 2.80 mm to 6.35 mm. The tantalum capacitors were pulverized by hammer mill and electrodes (anode and cathode) were removed from the grinding products by using magnetic separators under the magnetic force of 300 Gauss. Finally, tantalum concentrate was concentrated from the magnetic separator products by using Knelson concentrator, and the maximum efficiency of 76.9% was achieved under the operating condition of bowl rotating speed of 200 rpm, and fluidizing water flowrate of 7 L/min. The grade and recovery of Ta concentrate under the condition were 81.1% and 78.8%, respectively.
This study was carried out to investigate radiographical and operating conditions of X-ray units and exposure doses to patients during chest radiography, so that the results could provide basic data used for reducing the exposure dose and for providing the diagnostic information with better quality. The conditions and exposure doses of 100 X-ray units mainly used for chest radiography were examined and also 100 radiological technologists mainly handling those apparatus at 76 medical facilities in Pusan were surveyed using a questionnaire from October 1 to December 31 in 1995. The following results were obtained from the study : 1. It was found that most units were capable of taking a high tube voltage radiography by showing 67% of the units equipped with the maximum tube voltage of 150 kV, 94% with more than 500 mA for the rating capacity and 85% with the full wave type of a signal phase. 2. For actual chest radiographical conditions, however, 80% of the units were operated at $60{\sim}100\;kVp$ and only 14% at 100 kVp and over for the high tube voltage. 3. The average exposure time was less than 0.1 second, and eighty four percent of the units adapted the X-ray tube currents ranging from 200 to 300 mA, 80% the focus-film distances between 180 and 210 cm, and 63% the focus sizes of more than 2.0 mm. 4. Most units(98%) employed additional filters made of aluminum, 75% the thickness of filters less than 2.0 mm, and only 2 units the compound filters. 5. Ortho chromatic system was only adopted in 13% of screen film system for the units, and 73% used the grid ratio at 8 : 1 for the low tube voltage during chest radiography. 6. The average exposure dose of all X-ray units during chest radiography was $371\;{\mu}Sv$ with a difference of about 16 times between the minimum to the maximum, and $386\;{\mu}Sv$ both at hospitals and at health centers, followed by $380\;{\mu}Sv$ at general hospitals and $263\;{\mu}Sv$ at university hospitals without showing any statistically significant differences. In conclusion, since patients during chest radiography at medical facilities in Pusan exposed to high levels of radiation, it is recommended that appropriate added filters and grids necessary for the high tube voltage radiography and high-speed screen systems should be adopted and used as soon as possible in order to reduce exposure dose to the patients.

This study dealt with developing a new approach for finding properties which might represent rut resistance characteristics of asphalt mixture under static loading. Two aggregates, a normal asphalt (pen 60-80) and 5 polymer-modified asphalts were used in preparation of 12 dense-graded mixtures. Marshall mix design was used in determination of OAC and each mixture at the OAC was prepared for a newly-developed Kim test on Marshall specimen (S=10cm) and gyratory specimen (S=15cm), and for wheel tracking test. Kim test used Marshall loading frame and specimens were conditioned for 30min at $60^{\circ}C$ before loading through Kim tester an apparatus consisting of a loading column and a specimen and column holder Diameter (D) of column was 3cm and 4cm with each column having different radius (r) of round cut at the bottom. The static load was applied at 50mm/min in axial direction of the specimen, not in diametral direction. The maximum load ($P_{max}$) and vertical deformation (y) at $P_{max}$ point were obtained from the test. A strength value was calculated based on the $P_{max}$ r, D and y by using the equation $K_D = 4P_{max}/{\pi}(D-2(r-\sqrt{2ry-y^2}))^2$ and is defined as the deformation strength ($kgf/cm^2$). The values of $P_{max}$/y and $K_I=K_D/y$ were also calculated. In general the leading column diameter and radius of round cut were significant factors affecting $K_D$ and $P_{max}$ values while specimen diameter was not. The statistical analyses showed the $K_D$ had the best correlation with rut depth and dynamic stability. The next best correlation was found from $P_{max}$ which was followed by $P_{max}$/y and $K_I$ in order.

This study was carried out to investigate the antifungal activity of the water soluble essential oil against Trichoderma spp. Water soluble essential oils from Pinus densiflora and Chamaecyparis obtusa were obtained from GAP (Gas assisted process) extraction apparatus. When the water soluble essential oil was treated, the growth of the conidial germination was maximum under the cultivation condition at $25^{\circ}C$ and in the culture medium adjusted to pH 5.0. The yield of water soluble essential oil was 3.9% and 3.7% in P. densiflora and C. obtusa, respectively. 24 and 15 kinds of compounds were identified in water soluble essential oils of P. densiflora and C. obtusa, respectively. The major components in the essential oil of P. densiflora were $\alpha$-Terpineol acetate and Terpinen-4-ol and those of C. obtusa were Terpinen-4-ol and $\alpha$-Terpineol. Antifungal activity was the best in the 5000 ppm of P. densiflora against Trichoderma harzianum and in 5000 ppm of C. obtusa against Trichoderma atroviride.
A series of the studies on the applied physical properties of domestic species have been conducted last three years. Pinus densiflora was one of the three species examined for the first year. Because the same apparatus and experimental procedures were used for all species, their results can be easily comparable. The experiments for sorption property were conducted with 20- and 80-mesh wood powder and resulted in their EMC's and sorption isotherms at various heating conditions. The thermal conductivity and diffusivity, and electric resistance and volumetric electric resistivity were measured with a thermal-wire device and a high electric resistance meter. The differences of the thermal and electric properties between quarter- and flat-sawn specimens were observed, which was partially attributed to their anatomical differences. An acoustic measurement system was used to evaluate dynamic MOE and internal friction. This paper provides the useful fundamental data for designing a wood structure, correcting a portable resistance-type moisture meter, and nondestructive testing wood.
$SF_6$ has an extremely high global worming potential (GWP). Therefore, there has been an effort to reduce the use of $SF_6$ and its emission into atmosphere. One possible solution for minimizing the use of $SF_6$ in electrical equipments is utilization of gas mixtures such as $SF_6/N_2$. The $SF_6$ concentration in the gas mixture varies from 10 to 60%. However, when the apparatus is repaired or dismantled, we have to recover $SF_6$ from the gas mixture. Since the boiling point of $SF_6$is low (${\sim}-60^{\circ}C$), the liquefaction method is difficult to apply. One possible alternative is the membrane separation technology. In this study, we investigated the $SF_6$ and $N_2$ permeation properties of 5 polymeric membranes. For example, permeability of $N_2$ in BOPP membrane at $25^{\circ}C$was 0.19 barrer, whereas that of $SF_6$ was only 0.0012 barrer, resulting in the selectivity of 158. An upper bound for $SF_6/N_2$ gas pair was suggested for the first time with n = -1.33 and k = 160 (barrer).
Method of besoil analysis were difficult to be applied universally since the use and the source material of bedsoils are diverse from country to country. Korean Standard Methods for Bedsoil Analysis was developed to measure the particle and bulk density. Fifty-three samples for horticultural bedsoil and nine samples for paddy rice bedsoil in the current market were collected. Particle density was measured by electrical pyconometer with He gas, and bulk density by the sandbox method, free fall method, plunger compaction method, free fall and plunger method, and sample weight compaction method. While the use of glass pycnometer which measures particle density to fill blank space with water was inappropriate due to floating organic and calcined inorganic materials in the water, the electrical pycnometer with gas type was suitable considering speed and accuracy. For bulk density, the sandbox method recommended as European Standard Method was more reasonable in principle than other methods. However, this method requires expensive apparatus and intricate process. Plunger compaction method was proposed as standard method, since it had higher consistence with the sandbox method than other methods, as well as an advantage of easy and prompt measurement. Particle density of bedsoil ranged $1.48{\sim}2.67Mg\;m^{-3}$(mean $1.93Mg\;m^{-3}$) for horticultural bedsoil and $2.33{\sim}2.67Mg\;m^{-3}$ (mean $2.43Mg\;m^{-3}$) for paddy rice bedsoil by the electrical pycnometer with He gas. Bulk density of bedsoil ranged $0.11{\sim}0.40Mg\;m^{-3}$ (mean $0.22Mg\;m^{-3}$) for horticultural bedsoil and $0.84{\sim}1.26Mg\;m^{-3}$(mean $1.01Mg\;m^{-3}$) for paddy rice bedsoil by plunger compaction method.

The hydrolysis rates of seven kinds of polyol ester base oils 〔POEs〕 of different branch shape were investigated by using a simple apparatus under mild acidic condition. Seven polyol ester base oils were made of poly hydric alcohols of two-four valence, normal or branched fatty acids of different carbon number. p-Toluene sulfonic acid was used as acid catalyst to accelerate the rate of hydrolysis. Partial esters and fatty acid produced by sequential hydrolysis of POEs were identified and their concentrations were determined by calibrated-internal standard method using Gas Chromatography. The rate constants of each step in sequential hydrolysis were determined by the least square method from rate equation and the concentration of each component, were compared with one another. It was shown that the rate of hydrolysis of POEs was strongly affected by whether molecular structure of fatty acid was straight chain or branch chain and which position was branched. The hydrolysis stability for all the POEs can be reasonably explained by using a steric hindrance effect anticipated fi:om their molecular structures affecting as water molecule makes an attack on the carbonyl carbon of POEs.

The surface conductive layer (SCL) of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamonds has attracting much interest. However, neither photoemission electron microscopic (PEEM) nor micro-spectroscopic (PEEMS) information is available so far. Since SCL retains in an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) condition, PEEM or PEEMS study will give an insight of SCL, which is the subject of the present study. The sample was made on a Ib-type HTHP diamond (001) substrate by non-doping CVD growthin a DC-plasma deposition chamber. The SCL properties of the sample in air were; a few tens K/Sq. in sheet resistance, ${\sim}180\;cm^2/vs$ in Hall mobility, ${\sim}2{\times}10^{12}/cm^2$ in carrier concentration. The root-square-mean surface roughness (Rq) of the sample was ~0.2nm as checked by AFM. A $2{\times}1$ LEED pattern and a sheet resistance of several hundreds K/Sq. in UHV were checked in a UHV chamber with an in-situ resist-meter [1]. The sample was then installed in a commercial PEEM/S apparatus (Omicron FOCUS IS-PEEM) which was composed of electro-static-lens optics together with an electron energy-analyzer. The presence of SCL was regularly monitored by measuring resistance between two electrodes (colloidal graphite) pasted on the two ends of sample surface. Figure 1 shows two PEEM images of a same area of the sample; a) is excited with a Hg-lamp and b) with a Xe-lamp. The maximum photon energy of the Hg-lamp is ~4.9 eV which is smaller that the band gap energy ($E_G=5.5\;eV$) of diamond and the maximum photon energy of the Xe-lamp is ~6.2 eV which is larger than $E_G$. The image that appear with the Hg-lamp can be due to photo-excitation to unoccupied states of the hydrogen-terminated negative electron affinity (NEA) diamond surface [2]. Secondary electron energy distribution of the white background of Figs.1a) and b) indeed shows that the whole surface is NEA except a large black dot on the upper center. However, Figs.1a) and 1b) show several features that are qualitatively different from each other. Some of the differences are the followings: the two main dark lines A and B in Fig.1b) are not at all obvious and the white lines B and C in Fig.1b) appear to be dark lines in Fig.1a). A PEEMS analysis of secondary electron energy distribution showed that all of the features A-D have negative electron affinity with marginal differences among them. These differences can be attributed to differences in the details of energy band bending underneath the surface present in SCL [3].
The objective of this study was to find herbicidal compounds in the essential oil of palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini). Of essential oils from basil (Ocimum basilicum), blackpepper (Piper nigrum), clary sage (Salvia sclarea), ginger (Zingiber pfficinale), hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), nutmag (Myristica fragrance), palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), sage (Salvia leucantha), and spearmint (Mentha spicta), the herbicidal activity of palmarosa essential oil, which was determined by a seed bioassay using rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), was highest ($GR_{50}$ value, $201{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$). In palmarosa essential oil, 11 volatile organic chemicals were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectometry with solid-phase micro-extraction apparatus and the major constituents were geraniol (40.23%), geraniol acetate (15.57%), cis-ocimene (10.79%), and beta-caryophyllene (8.72%). The $GR_{50}$ values of geraniol, citral, nerol, and geranyl acetate were 151, 224, 452, and $1,214{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$, respectively. In greenhouse and field experiments, foliar application of palmarosa essential oil at the level of $80kg\;ha^{-1}$ controlled weeds effectively. Overall results of this study showed that the herbicidal activity of palmarosa essential oil could be due to geraniol and citral which had lower $GR_{50}$ values.
