  • This research is to suggest effective kitchen furniture design for 40, 50 pyeong-size apartment considering the quantity and volume, heights or length of stored items for cooking. The research candidates are purposive-sampled 30 households in Kangnam, Seoul. The observation shows that the volume of kitchen furniture is $3.1{\sim}5.9m^3$ and of utility furniture is $0.3{\sim}3.8m^3$. For each households hold average of 886 kitchenwares, $4.1m^3$. Such were normally stored in the upper and lower storage and tall storage closet for a kitchen. Through the field studies and depth interviews, it is shown that there are 287 (33.2%), $1.67m^3$ of the application for preparing food, certain knives, disposable products and food which is considered absolutely or comparatively hard to organize. Products that are very hard to organize are the small application for cooking, grouped kitchenware such as openers, the applications with long rod shape food, and detergent. There are 96 of such products, taking the volume of $0.32m^3$; thus, such products are considered to improve the kitchen furniture design. And the shelf of storage can the control 3cm hights according to result of this research.

  • Recently, public interest in housing defects, such as construction errors, occupiers' complaints, faults in production, and so on, is increasing. In addition, the construction requirements of high-rise residential buildings have increased, due to the higher prices of urban areas, especially in metropolitan areas. While previous research has focused on the defects occurring in apartment housing complexes, research has not been carried out on the defects occurring in high-rise residential buildings. In this paper, the defects patterns and characteristics of high-rise residential buildings are examined and analyzed and a defect management plan is then suggested. In order to do this, we collected the defects data of high-rise residential buildings recorded by 2,299 of 2,327 occupants. The defect occurrence rate (DOR) in the residential area is 98.8%. The frequency rate of defect occurrence over the total defect occurrence since building completion is 63.28% during the first year, 24.63% (second year), 6.88% (third year), 2.27% (fourth year), and 2.53% (fifth year). The result of correlation analysis between work types showed that there is a relationship between the built-in furniture and electronics (F&E) and painting works, and the F&E and masonry works, such as marble finishing. We expect that this research will assist in the efforts to decrease the number of defects in high-rise buildings.

  • Heating energy was measured in an apartment housing unit with a district heating system, varying the kind of hot water distributors. Ondol coils passing through a living room raised the temperature of the room where the heating was turned off. Including this characteristic of Ondol heating into the modeling, we performed simulations and showed a verification by comparison with the results of measurements. As a result, a main flow control method, which changes hot water flow rate supplied to a housing unit according to the thermal load, can reduce the supplied flow rate and lower the return temperature, compared with a constant flow method. That can result in decreased heat loss in utility-pipe conduits even though the heating energy supplied is almost the same. An outdoor reset control that raises the temperature of the supplied hot water if the outdoor temperature falls has the effect of a quicker response in heating than the reduced flow rate and return temperature.

  • This study attempts to explore the organization of domestic space in Belgium and then to compare them with those found in Korea. Data were collected by questionnaires mailed to 110 staff members, both academic an dadministrative, working at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. The major findings of the study can be summarized as fllows: First, the most common pattern of Belgian LDK(living-room dining-room and kichen) layout is the LD type, which separates K from L and D by wall or door while linking L and D to each other. On the other hand, a large portions of Korean LDK layout is the DK type , which seperates L from D and H, but D and K are interconnected. As expected, the bigger the size of floor space, the more likely L-D-K type is to be, which places L, D, and f, separate each other. And the smaller the sire the more probable the DK type and/or the one room type would be, where L, D and K are merged into one room. Second, the enterance of domestic space in Belgium is normally found adjacent to public space. The Belgian entrance often forms a space independent from other parts of the house, or a space that leads directly to garage. These two patterns are rarely found in Korea. Third, Belgians tend to locate Kichen in the front of the house when they design apartment units, Whereas it is not the case in Korea where it is located in the rear.

  • The amount of energy consumption in the buildings is approximately 20% of domestic energy consumption. The Carbon Point Program have been published on reduction of greenhouse gas emission in buildings under the paradigm of 'Low Carbon Green Growth'. This study focuses on the effect of 'Carbon Point Program' for residential buildings in Daegu. The amount of electricity and waterwork consumption and information of households were investigated to analyse the effect of carbon point program. The samples are situated in Deagu and are apartment in Bukgu and Suseonggu. The $CO_2$ emission is analysed by factors of energy resource and household organization between before participating and after participating in Carbon Point Program. The participation type has a difference of voluntary participation in Suseonggu and passive participation in Bukgu. Based on this investigation, average amount of $CO_2$ emission was reduced from voluntary participation households but all of them did not. To promote the effect of Carbon Point Program, this study proposes that needing the plans to raise will and activity of reducing carbon and to help participation which have disadvantage against achieving reduction.

  • In response to the economic depression, the demand for fixed rent income has increased according to the easing construction regulations. it caused indiscriminated investment to stakeholders. This leads to oversupply in the multi-family Housing market and increases unsold housing and vacancy rates except specific area such as Gangnam-gu.In order to solve this issue, although studies on the optimization price of apartment houses has been conducted, the study is insufficient regarding on residential officetel. Therefore, the objective is to suggest a basic study on optimal price estimation model development by using probabilistic forecasting method in planning phase. To achieve the objective, first, variables are defined such as expenses, financial costs, income, etc. Second, causal loop diagram is suggested. Third, basic optimization prices estimation model is developed. In the future, this study can be used as one of decision making tools in planning phase of officetel development projects.

  • The recent emphasis on ecological urban development has led to the need to maintain a hydrologic cycle in urban areas. As such, this study proposes decentralized rainwater management, a concept of onsite rainwater management that involves the utilization, infiltration, detention, and retention of rainwater. The main objective of this research is to estimate the proportion of decentralized rainwater management that is needed. From the research that was conducted in this study, it was found that the total runoff quantity increases by 10-20% after district lands are developed, when the probable rate of precipitation every 10 years is within this range. Thus, the runoff rate can be reduced by 10~20% of the total runoff quantity through decentralization. On the other hand, in the scale of housing complex development, the total runoff quantity increases by as much as 10~40% due to the changes in the rate of the impervious surface area. If 10-40% of the total runoff quantity was processed through decentralized rainwater management, the rate of infiltration, detention, retention, and runoff in precipitation prior to development could be recovered.

  • In this paper, a multi-agent control system for DC-coupled photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), ultracapacitor(UC) and battery hybrid power system is studied for commercial buildings & apartment buildings microgrid. In this proposed system, the PV system provides electric energy to the electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for future use and transfer to the load side, if possible. Whenever the PV system cannot completely meet load demands, the FC system provides power to meet the remaining load. A multi-agent system based-power management and control algorithm is proposed for the hybrid power system by taking into account the characteristics of each power source. The main works of this paper are hybridization of alternate energy sources with FC systems using long and short storage strategies to build the multi-agent control system with pragmatic design, and a dynamic model proposed for a PV/FC/UC/battery bank hybrid power generation system. A dynamic simulation model for the hybrid power system has been developed using Matlab/Simulink, SimPowerSystems and Stateflow. Simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-agent control and management system for building microgrid.
