Development of Highly Efficient and Stable Blue Organic Electroluminescent Devices

  • We have developed a highly efficient and stable blue organic electroluminescent device (OLED) based on the blue fluorescent p-bis(p-N,N-diphenyl-aminostyryl)benzene (DSA-Ph) dopant in a morphologically stable high-bandgap host material, 2-methyl-9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene (MADN), which achieved an EL efficiency of 9.7 cd/A and 5.5 lm/W at 20 mA/$cm^2$ and 5.7 V with a Commission Internationale d'Eclairage coordinates of(x = 0.16, y = 0.32). This sky blue device which could also alleviate the problematic current induced quenching at high current achieved a half-decay lifetime ($t_{1\;2}$) of 46,000 h at an initial brightness of 100 cd/$m^2$.

  • 본 연구는 물벼룩을 환경 중 UV-B와 유사한 강도에 노출시켜 8세대 이상 적응시킨 후 Daphnia magna의 UV-B 적응이 광독성 오염물질의 독성 민감도에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. UV-B에 적응된 D. magna는 UV-B와 Cu 동시 노출 시 자외선에 적응되지 않은 D. magna에 비해 높은 저항성을 보였다(p<0.1). 그 이유는 D. magna가 UV-B에 적응되는 과정에서 oxidative stress에 대한 방어/회복 능력이 증가하여 동일한 ROS를 생성하는 Cu에 노출되었을때 효과적으로 저항할 수 있었기 때문으로 해석된다. Pyrene, fluoranthene, anthracene, As, Cd, Ni은 독성이 증가하거나 동일하게 나타났다.

Dietary Intake and Venous Blood Concentration of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Low-level Exposure (다환방향족탄화수소류의 음식물을 통한 섭취량과 혈중농도)

  • Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the blood concentrations and dietary intake for 24-hour food duplicate of low level polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Design: The geometric means of the blood concentrations and dietary intake of 16 PAHs in college student candidates were simply compared with instrumental detection. Methods: The concentrations of 16 PAHs in venous blood and 24-hour food duplicates were analyzed with head-space solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: Naphthalene, acenaphthylene, pyrene, benz(a)anthracene, chrysene, and acenaphthene among the 16 analyzed PAHs were simultaneously detected both in venous blood and 24-hour food duplicate samples. Conclusion: The main exposure source of the six PAHs is thought to be oral intake from food through low level non-occupational exposure.

Biodegradation of PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon) Using Immobilized Cells of Phanerochaete chrysosporium (고정화 Phanerochaete chrysosporium을 이용한 다환 방향족 화합물의 분해)

  • This study was aimed to enhance polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAHS) biodegradation rate by repeated-batch treatment using immobilized cells of Phanerochaete chrysosporium. In the repeated-batch operations with 30 mg/L of pyrene the maximum degradation rate was 6.58 mg/L day. As the number of batches increased the concentration of immobilized cells significantly decreased and the degradation rate and specific acitivity gradually increased to a maximum value and then decreased. To have PAH degradation activity and cell mass recovered one batch of cultivation using the growth medium instead of the PAH-degrading medium was carried in the course of repeated-batch operations. This maximum degradation rates of pyrene and anthracene were 4.29 and 4.46 mg/L$.$day respectively. Overall the rate of PAH degradation could be enhanced 2.5-30 folds by using immobilized cells compared to the case of using suspended cells.

  • Mutagenic characteristics deactivation of 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthraracene was studied in a nonacclimated sandy loam soil at low and neutral pH soil conditions. Soil extracts containing transformation products were separated into three fractions based on HPLC retention time(polarity). Highly polar transformation products of 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene demonstrated a negative mutagenic response with the Ames mutagenicity assay, strain TA-100, for both low and neutral pH soils. Moderate and low polar fractions, however, induced mutagenicity for both soil samples with mutagenic ratios similar to those of the parent compound.

마우스 및 랫트의 정상조직과 종양성 병변에서의 Nucleolar Organizer Regions (NORs)

  • Silver-binding nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NORs)염색법을 이용하여 in vivo 및 in vitro에서 발암과정과 관련된 세포증식능을 검토하였다. A/J마우스에 benzo (a) pyrene을 투여하여 유발된 폐선종, 폐선암 및 Sprague-Dawley랫트에 dimethylbenz (a) anthracene투여에 의해 발생된 유선의 선암세포에서 Ag-NORs의 염색상태를 정상 조직과 비교하여 또한 정상마우스 섬유모세포인 NIH3T3에서의 Ag-NORs의 수 및 DNA 증식 억제물질인 caffeine에 의한 변화를 관찰하였다. 은친화성 NOR과련 단백질은 핵내 흑색의 반점으로 나타났으며 정상 폐조직의 세포당 Ag-NORs 수치는 0.87+0.01였으며 양성종양인 폐선종세포 및 악성종양인 폐선암세포에서는 각각 2.33+0.02, 2.56+0.45 정상 유선조직의 세포당 Ag-NORs수치는 1.21+0.16였으며 악성종양인 선암세포는 3.91+0.11로써 종양성 병변에서 유의한 증가를 보였다 (P<0.005).

Polymeric and Oligomeric OTFT Materials Containing Fused Aromatics

  • New polymeric and oligomeric OTFT materials containing fused aromatics such as anthracene and naphthalene have been designed, synthesized and characterized. The new OTFT materials were prepared by palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The obtained materials were characterized by various spectroscopic methods such as UV-vis, PL, cyclovoltametry, and XRD. The obtained OTFT materials containing fused aromatics showed high thermal stability above $350^{\circ}C$ In OTFT devices using new materials, high charge carrier mobility and on/off ratio were observed.

  • Study of computational model of the concerted Diels-Alder reaction between 9,10-dimethyl anthracene (as donor) and tetracyanoethylene (as acceptor) in absence and in presence of aromatic solvents (benzene, mesitylene and hexamethylbenzene, as donors) using an AM1 semi-empirical method. AM1 method used to study the neutral charge transfer complex models that could be expected between donor and acceptor during the course of the concerted Diels-Alder reaction. Calculated enthalpies of reaction of the charge transfer complexes models showed physical and chemical meaning for explain the effect of aromatic solvents on the kinetic process of concerted Diels-Alder reaction that contains tetracyanoethylene.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the sediments of Kwangyang Bay on Korea (광양만 유역 퇴적토 중의 다환방향족탄화수소류)

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in sediments of Kwangyang bay on Korea, have been investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometery (GC/MS). The average content of total PAHs in all samples was 2,211ppb, and the range was from 36 to 22,699ppb. The higher concentrations were found in sediment sampled near Kwangyang iron processing plant, Taeindo. The resulting distributions of PAHs according to the number of aromatic ring and molecular ratios of specific aromatic compounds (phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene and pyrene) have been discussed in terms of sample location, origin of the organic matter. Four, five and six rings of PAHs were mainly found near to Kwangyang iron processing plant, and three and four rings near to Yeosu chemical kombinat This result typically indicated the local characteristics, depending on the origin of PAHs.
