Analysis of Broadband Ultrasonic Field Response and its Application to the Design of Focused Annular Array System (광대역 초음파 장 응답의 해석과 집속된 Annular Array 영상 시스템 설계에의 응용)

  • In this paper an approach for the analysis of the transient field response of radially symmetric transducer due to a wideband ultrasonic pulse is presented, which is based on a development of Green's function and applies the linear system theory to obtain an analytic expression for the impulse response of an annulus with a planar or spherical geometry. For the focused annular array, the impulse responses of the indivisual annuli are convolved with the delayed excitation pulse, and then summed to obtain the resultant response of the array. This process is very effective in the study of the various focusing abilities of the annular array. For illustration, the field distribution of a five element annular array is treated in detail for several focusing system.

  • Recently, underground transmission system is growing continuously according to the electric power demand increase in the downtown area. Even if domestic cable makers are manufacturing 154kV oil filled cable and joint, the design technology of cable-joint has not been fully self-reliance. This study is aimed at the detail heat transfer analysis of 154kV cable-joint. So, that is cut into the five sections in order to analyze a conjugate natural convection in two dimensional $r-{\theta}$ coordinate. The streamline and temperature distributions are obtained for each sections. Also the changes of those are analyzed with respect to the variation of transmission currents and cable-joint surface heat transfer coefficients. The same analyses are also shown in view point of the maximum temperature of conductor and local equivalent conductivity.

  • Among recent materials identified from Korea two species of Criconematoidea are different from described forms: Criconemella hawangiensis is larger and has a longer stylet than C. paragoodey, head an tail annuli also differ. Hemicycliophora parajuglandis has an outbulging lip area that sits like a hemicircle on the head and pushed the lateral head side inwards; morphology and measurements correspond to H. juglandis and also to H. koreana. Hemicycliophora epichoroides is newly recorded from Korea.

  • 동심 이중관내에서 외관내벽의 사각돌출형 조도요소에 의한 비대칭 난류유동과 열전달 특성을, 열전달과 마찰계수에 미치는 조도의 합성효과를 조사하기 위해, 연구하였다. 이론해석에서는 수정 플란틀 혼합길이(mixing length)이론의 난류모델을 속도분포와 마찰계수를 구하는데 사용하였다. 최대 속도지점에서 안쪽과 바깥쪽의 두 속도 형상들은 힘의 평형에 의해 일치시켰다. 그리고나서, 온도분포와 열전달 계수를 계산하였다. 속도형상과 마찰계수들의 해석결과는 반경비 (${\alpha}$)= 0.13, 0.26, 0.4, 그리고 0.56 경우의 실험과 매우 잘 일치하였다. 마찰계수와 Nusselt number에 미치는 반경비, 조도비, 그리고 조도에 대한 피치비 등과 같은 여러 변수들의 효과들을 조사하였다. 본 연구는 일정 조도 요소들이 전체적 효율 측면에서 볼 때 열전달을 우리하게 향상시킨다는 것을 증명하였다.

Analysis of ice-formation phenomena for fully developed laminar water flow in concentric circular-tube annuli (동심원관 환상공간내의 완전히 발달된 층류유동에서 물의 결빙현상에 대한 해석)

  • In this numerical study, it is investigated for the ice-formation phenomena for water flow in a concentric tube. The freezing layers of ice in both the inner and outer wall of a concentric tube are simultaneously considered. In the solution strategy, the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. Numerical results are obtained by varying the inner/outer wall temperatures and Reynolds number. The results show that the inner/outer wall temperatures have the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer thereof. The shapes of ice layer in both the inner and outer wall can be expressed as a function of inverse Graetz number. As the wall temperature in inner or outer tube decreases, the heat transfer coefficients in both inner and outer ice layer surfaces increase absolutely.

  • Numerical simulation of steady, non-evaporating hollow-cone sprays interacting with concentric annular air jets is performed using the discrete stochastic particle method in KIVA. The spray characteristics such as SMD, mean droplet velocity, liquid volume flux, air/liquid mass ratio, and droplet number density arc obtained and compared with the measurements involving different air flow rates in large and small annuli. Overall satisfactory agreement is achieved between calculation and experiment except for the deviation in the downstream SMD arising from uncertainty in the size distribution function at injection, and inaccuracy in the averaged spray parameters due to the small volumes of axisymmetric 2-D sector meshes close to the axis.

Critical Heat Flux and Flow Pattern for Water Flow in Annular Geometry

  • An experimental study on critical heat flux (CHF) and two-phase flow visualization has been performed for water flow in internally-heated, vertical, concentric annuli under near atmospheric pressure. Tests have been done under stable forced- circulation, upward and downward flow conditions with three test sections of relatively large gap widths (heated length = 0.6 m. inner diameter = 19 mm, outer diameter = 29, 35 and 51 mm). The outer wall of the test section was made up of the transparent Pyrex tube to allow the observation of flow patterns near the CHF occurrence. The CHF mechanism was changed in the order of flooding, chum-to-annular flow transition, and local dryout under a large bubble in churn flow as the flow rate was increased from zero to higher values. Observed parametric trends are consistent with the previous understanding except that the CHF for downward flow is considerably lower than that for upward flow.

  • Plumbing surfaces of links were introduced to study the geometry of the complement of the links. A basket surface is one of these plumbing surfaces and it can be presented by two sequential presentations, the first sequence is the flat plumbing basket code found by Furihata, Hirasawa and Kobayashi and the second sequence presents the number of the full twists for each of annuli. The minimum number of plumbings to obtain a basket surface of a knot is defined to be the basket number of the given knot. In present article, we first find a classification theorem about the basket number of knots. We use these sequential presentations and the classification theorem to find the basket number of all prime knots whose crossing number is 7 or less except two knots $7_1$ and $7_5$.

  • We consider interesting conditions, one of which will be called the disjoint $(A^2,\;D^2)-pair$ property, on genus $g{\geq}2$ Heegaard splittings of compact orient able 3-manifolds. Here a Heegaard splitting $(C_1,\;C_2;\;F)$ admits the disjoint $(A^2,\;D^2)-pair$ property if there are an essential annulus Ai normally embedded in $C_i$ and an essential disk $D_j\;in\;C_j((i,\;j)=(1,\;2)\;or\;(2,\;1))$ such that ${\partial}A_i$ is disjoint from ${\partial}D_j$. It is proved that all genus $g{\geq}2$ Heegaard splittings of toroidal manifolds and Seifert fibered spaces admit the disjoint $(A^2,\;D^2)-pair$ property.

Friction Factors for Flow in Concentric Annuli with Rib-Roughened Wall (돌출형 거칠기벽이 있는 동심환형관의 유동에 대한 마찰계수)

  • The combined effects of radius ratio and roughness pitch ratio on the turbulent fluid flow characteristics of the fully developed flow in the annullar tubes with rib-roughened core walls were determined for Reynolds number ranging from 12,000 to 66,000. To understand the underlying physical phenomena responsible for friction factor enhancement, measurements of velocity profiles and zero shear stress and maximum velocity positions were combined to propose the friction factor correlation. Friction factors were found to be a function of the roughness pitch ratio and radius ratio.
