Comparison of Growth and Allometric Change of Stand and Dominant Trees in Pinus koraiensis Plantation over 34 Years

  • This study was conducted to find out the growth pattern of Pinus koraiensis plantation over 34 years, focusing on DBH, height, basal area and allometric change. Total increment (TI), mean annual increment (MAI) and correlation coefficient were calculated and compared with stand and dominants. Total increment and mean annual increment of both DBH and height of dominants were bigger than those of stand. The difference was apparently shown bigger in DBH than height. Unlike DBH and height the total increment and mean annual increment of basal area per hectare of dominants were distinctively smaller than those of stand. Furthermore MAI of dominant was increasing until age 42, while MAI of stand increased at early ages and then gradually decreased after culmination like MAIs of DBH and height. MAIs of basal area of dead trees at each measurement tended to increase until early age (18 years in this study), while it reached a peak and gradually decrease after that (21 years in this study). Correlation coefficient between DBH and height tended to decrease as both dominant and stand age and the difference between dominant and stand was not clearly shown over the measurement period. Correlation coefficients between DBH and crown width tended to decrease as the trees age and correlation coefficients of dominant were clearly shown smaller than that of stand. Correlation coefficients of height and crown width also was found to be similar to correlation coefficients between DBH and crown. Meanwhile correlation coefficient of height and crown width dropped more radically than coefficient of DBH and crown width as the trees age.

방크스소나무 인공림(人工林) 임분(林分)의 재적생장(材積生長) 추정(推定)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on the Estimation of Stand Volume Increment in the Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) in Artificial Forest)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 경기도 포천군 소흘면에 소재한 23년생(年生)의 방크스소나무 인공림(人工林) 임분(林分)을 대상으로 연년(連年) 재적생장량(材積生長量)과 재적생장율(材積生長率)을 구명(究明)하고 현실(現實) 임분축적(林分蓄積)을 파악(把握)함과 동시에 연년(連年) 재적생장량(材積生長量)을 구명(究明)하므로서 년간 벌채량(伐採量)의 조절(調節)을 합리적(合理的)으로 책정할 수 있으므로 적정(適正) 임목축적(林木蓄積)의 달성(達成) 및 유지(維持)를 위한 기초자료(基礎資料)를 제시(提示)코저 하였다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서는 재적생장량(材積生長量)을 합리적(合理的)으로 산출(算出)하기 위하여 표준지별(標準地別)로 흉고직경(胸高直徑), 수고(樹高), 수피후(樹皮厚)와 최근(最近) 10년동안의 core의 길이를 측정하였다. 이들의 측정치(測定値)을 이용하여 직경계별(直徑階別)로 연년(連年) 직경생장량(直徑生長量) 및 95%신뢰폭(信賴幅)의 재적생장량(材積生長量)을 산출(算出)하고 아울러 수고곡선식(樹高曲線式)을 유도(誘導)한 후 본(本) 식(式)을 이용(利用)하여 수고(樹高)값을 산출(算出)하였다. 재적표(材積表)를 이용한 재적산출(材積算出)은 본(本) 수고(樹高)값을 적용(適用)하였다. 본(本) 수종(樹種)의 재적생장관계(材積生長關係)를 구명(究明)한 결과(結果) 연년(連年) 재적생장율(材積生長率)은 7.7%이고 이의 추정오차율(推定誤差率)은 6.1%이었다. 재적(材積)은 ha당 $79.58m^3$이었고 연년(連年) 재적생장량(材積生長量)은 $6.13m^3$이었으며 이를 95%의 신뢰폭(信賴幅)으로 본다면 $5.77{\sim}6.51m^3$이었다.

서울 지역 학생의 신장 및 체중에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE BODY HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OF STUDENTS IN SEOUL)

  • The age of maximum growth increments-the adolescent spurt-is not only of developmental interest but is used as a marker for timing other growth events. And the mandibular growth rate follows the general growth curve, it is essential for an orthodontist to take the current and exact information about physical growth of patients. The author measured and studied the body height and weight of 11,694 children living in Seoul, and calculated out the mean, standard deviation, coefficient value, annual increments, percentage increments of each value, and made diagram to compare it with others. 1. The growth curve shows linear increment tendency until 17 years of age in male, 15 years in female. 2. The annual increment curves of body height and weight reveals the most peak value in 14-16 years in male and 11-14 years in female. 3. During 11-14 years of age, female growth exceed the male growth in the body height growth. And in weight growth, female growth exceed the male growth during 6-7 years and 11-12 years to show twice crossing. 4. It seemed that until 11-12 years in male and until 9-10 years in female the height growth show the priority to weight growth. And from 17 years in male and 15 years in female the body growth reveals the balanced growth pattern. 5. The time of changes of standard deviation curves of body height and weight coincided with that of annual increments. 6. The prominent high value of body height and weight in the comparison with other data may be due to the secioeconomical and nutritional, environmental influence. 7. The growth accerlation phenomena was detectable.

Relative strength of phenotypic selection on the height and number of flowering-stalks in the rosette annual Cardamine hirsuta (Brassicaceae)

  • We estimated phenotypic selection on the height and number of flowering-stalks in a rosette annual Cardamine hirsuta by applying path analysis to the data collected at three natural populations located in central Japan. The path from rosette size was positively connected with the fruit production through the both height and number of flowering-stalks. In the all three populations, the paths from the number of stalks were more strongly connected with the fruit production than from the height of stalks. The paths from the rosette size showed similar magnitude with the number of stalks and the height of stalks. The direct path from rosette size to the fruit production was detected only at one site. These results suggest stronger phenotypic selection on the rosette size through the number of stalks than the height of stalks. The lateral branching rather than increment of individual inflorescence size is the major response to control the fruit production for C. hirsuta growing in a natural habitat.

광산 지역 학생의 신장 및 체중에 관한 조사연구 (A STUDY ON THE BODY HEIGHT AND BODY WRIGHT OF CHILDREN IN THE REGION OF MINE)

  • It is well known fact that physical growth and development of children are influenced by many factors. The importance of socio-economic, geographic and cultural background cannot be over-emphasized in the evaluation of general pattern of physical growth and development of children. In this study the author measured and studied the body height and body weight of children living in the region of mine and industry located in Young-Wol Kun, Kang-Won Do, for the purpose of exploring out the influence of socio-geographic factors to act on physical growth and development of children. Total number of samples were 4,147 comprising 2,170 in male and 1,977 in female with ages ranging from 7 to 15. 1) The growth curves showed that young males grow slowly by 14 years of age, here-after rapidly and the young females grow slowly by 12 years of age, rapidly by 13 years of age and slowly thereafter. 2) The annual increment curves of body height and body weight showed that the most increment of female occurs by 13 years of age and that of mate, by 15 years of age. 3) The growth curves of the male and female crossed twice. It shows the difference of the pattern of growth between the both sexes. 4) The standards for the children in this region were presented. 5) The time of changes of stndard deviation curves of body height and body wegiht coincided nearly with that of annual increment. 6) Body weight and body height .of the children is larger than that of Korean children before World War II, but smaller than that of standards of recent Korean.

소나무 모수림 시업지의 임분구조 및 치수생육특성 (Stand Structure and Sapling Growth Characteristics of Korean Red Pine Stands Regenerated by the Seed Tree Method)

  • 본 연구는 소나무 모수작업에 따른 천연갱신 조성방안 및 산림시업지침을 마련할 수 있도록 2001년 실시된 소나무 천연하종갱신 시업지를 대상으로 작업 후 18년이 경과한 시기에 표준지조사를 실시하고 임분현황 및 치수생육상태를 분석하여 생장특성 및 임분자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구대상지는 강원도 춘천시 동산면 원창리 내 강원대학교 학술림에 위치하고 있으며, 설치된 모수시험림에서 2018년 11월 조사된 흉고직경, 수고, 수관급, 수간형질, 수령, 수고생장량 등의 자료를 활용하였다. 분석 시 흉고단면적, 재적, 형상비와 더불어 임분상대밀도, 임목축적도 등의 추가인자를 산출하여 시업지의 현황을 분석하였다. 잔존모수는 58본/ha으로 임목축적도 17.7%이었으며, 치수는 2,330본/ha으로 임목축적도 79.0%로 진단되었다. 치수의 수령은 2001~2007년에 발아분포를 보이고 있었는데 대부분은 15~16년생에 속하였다. 치수 생육상태는 흉고직경 10 cm, 수고 8 m로 파악되었다. 수관급이 우세할수록 흉고직경과 수고가 더 크게 나타났으며, 분산분석 및 Duncan 다중비교검정에서도 수관급별 차이는 통계적으로 매우 유의하였다(p<0.0001). 형상비는 80~90% 범위에 많이 분포하였으며, 95%이상 대부분 치수의 형질은 수간이 곧고 분지가 없으며, 초두부가 부러지지 않고 병해충의 피해가 없는 양질의 형태로 파악되었다. 치수의 평균 연년수고생장량은 1년생 21.9 cm, 5년생 43.3 cm, 10년생 54.3 cm, 15년생 64.3 cm이었으며, 전체적으로 수령증가에 따라 생장량이 우상향하는 것으로 나타났다. 공분산분석 결과, 수관급별 연년수고생장량에서도 유의적인 차이가 나타났으며, 회귀분석의 파라미터 추정치는 수령이 증가하거나 수관급이 우세할수록 연년수고생장량이 높은 것으로 분석되었다.

Windows용 수간석해(樹幹析解) 프로그램(Stemwin1.0)의 개발(開發) (Development of Stem Analysis Program(Stemwin1.0) for Windows)

  • 본 연구에서는 PC기반의 Windows운영체제에서 운용될 수 있는 수간석해 프로그램(Stemwin1.0)을 개발하였다. Stemwin1.0에서는 연륜측정기에서 1/100mm 단위로 측정된 l년 단위의 연륜폭 자료를 입력받아 흉고직경 및 단면적, 수고, 재적 등 각종 생장량을 다양한 방법으로 계산할 수 있다. 즉, 수령별 평균 흉고직경 및 단면적은 산술 및 단면적 평균법을 적용해 계산할 수 있으며, 수고생장은 평행선법, 직선연장법, 수고곡선법 등에 의해 다양하게 추정할 수 있다. 재적은 Huber식, Smalian식, Spline식 등을 선택적으로 적용해 추정할 수 있다. 선택된 계산방법에 따라 상가 각 생장인자의 총, 평균 및 연년 생장량 뿐만 아니라 이용재적 및 수고, 형수, 생장률 이용률 등의 생장 관련 정보가 1년 단위로 자동 계산된다. 또한, 1년 단위의 정밀한 간곡선도를 다양한 축척으로 출력할 수 있으며 간곡선식 유도를 위한 통계분석용 자료(단판 높이별 직경)도 제시된다. Stemwin1.0에서는 계산결과를 MS-Excel로 전환할 수 있도록 하여 사용자가 손쉽게 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

초등학생의 과체중 이환율 추적과 관련요인 분석 (Overweight Tracking in Primary Schoolchildren and Analysis of Related Factors)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the probability of overweight throughout childhood in relation to the presence of overweight at birch or in early childhood, and presence of overweight in children's parents. Weight and height measures were collected at birth and at ages of 7, 10, 12 years from 655 6th grade primary schoolchildren. Childhood overweight was defined as a body mass index at or above the 85th percentile for age and sex, and overweight in children's parents as a body mass index at or above 27. The prevalence of overweight increased with age of the children. Overweight at birth was not associated with overweight at 12 years of ages. However, overweight at 12 years old was already related to overweight at 7 years old. In comparison to non-overweight peers, overweight children at ages 7(OR = 7.64, 95% CI = 4.32-13.51) and 10 years(OR = 19.69, 95% CI = 11.42-33.94) had a higher rick of becoming overweight at 12 years of age. Among children who was overweight at age 7years, 60.7% remained overweight 5 years later, Yearly increment in BMI of overweight children was larger than that of non-obese children (1.15-1.65kg/m$^2$vs 0.50-0.71kg/m$^2$. As compared with the lower case in mealy increment of BMI, the probability of being overweight at age of 12 years was greater in higher case. BMI values at age 7years were positively correlated with BMI values at age of 10 and 127ear,i, and with annual increments in BMI. But those relationships with birth weight were not observed. Children were at greater risk for overweight if at least ogle parent was overweight. The odds ratio for child overweight associated with maternal overweight was 2.41(95% CI = 1,13-5.IS), and those associated with paternal overweight 1.70(95% CI = 0.92-3.17). And parents' BMIs were positively correlated with children's BMI values and yearly BMI increment. In conclusion, overweight at early childhood and annual inclement in BMI can be important in predicting the prevalence of overweight and the risk that overweight will remain after 7 years of age. The risk of being overweight throughout the childhood increases by the parents'overweight.

  • The purpose of this study was observing the annual growth increment in Cephalogram. The Cephalograms of 28 boys & 22 girls were analized by method of Downs & Steiner, range from 7 to 9 years in Korean children. The results were as follows. 1. The change of gonial angle in both male and female is not presented in this age. 2. The most significant linear change of both male and female is the facial depth (Na-Go) and that of both male and female is the interincisal angle in this age. 3. The increment of the mandibular body length (Go-Me) and the anterior facial height (Na-Me) is presented in this age. 4. The change of SNA and SNB in both male and female is negligible is negligible in this age.

Growth Analysis of Red Pine (Pinus densiflora) by Stem Analysis in the Eastern Region of Korea

  • The study was performed to analyze the growth of the red pine (Pinus densiflora) in the Eastern Region of Korea. Stem profile data from a total of 8 dominant trees of which each tree represents its site were collected and used for the analysis. The stem volumes were calculated using Smalian's formula and much higher than the ones by Korea Forest Research Institute in larger than dbh 40 cm. The total bark volumes were more proportionally related to dbh and stem volume than to height and age. The bark thickness and volume decreased as relative height increases but increased as relative dbh increased. The average PAI of dbh and height reached the highest at 0.8 cm/yr (age 15) and at 0.45 m/yr (age 30) respectively, while the average PAI of volume steadily tended to increase up to age 80. The growth percentages of dbh, height and volume tended to decrease with age and volume growth percentage was higher than dbh and height.
