  • We investigated seasonal variation of microalgal assemblages, sea water temperature, salinity and suspended solid and the parameters measured daily from January 1998 to October 1999 at a nearshore shallow-water in Marian Cove, Maxwell Bay, King George Island, the Antarctic. Annual mean surface water temperature was -0.3$0^{\circ}C$ and the highest water temperature was 4.53$^{\circ}C$ (22 January 1999) and the lowest water temperature was -2.07$^{\circ}C$ (23 August 1998). Annual mean salinity was 33.38 psu, ranging from 42.80 psu (6 January 1999) to 19.50 psu (6 June 1999). Annual mean suspended solid (SS) during two years was 34.14 mgㆍ1$^{-1}$, ranging from 60.62 mgㆍ1$^{-1}$(7 March 1998) to 12.90 mgㆍ1$^{-1}$ (26 December 1998). Chlorophyll $\alpha$ (Chl $\alpha$) concentrations were measured in order to know seasonal variations of microalgae in the surface seawater. Annual mean of total Chl a concentration was 0.55$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$, the highest Chl $\alpha$ concentration (12.16$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$) appeared in 4 October 1998, the lowest Chl $\alpha$ concentration appeared 0.19$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$, Monthly mean total Chl $\alpha$ concentration was high in October 1998 (1.32$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$) and low in July on 1998 (0.28$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$). Annual mean nano-sized Chl $\alpha$ concentration was 0.40$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$, monthly mean nano -sized Chl $\alpha$ concentration was high in November 1998 (0.90$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$), and low in July 1999 (0.22$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$). Annual mean micro-sized Chl $\alpha$ concentration was 0.15$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$ monthly mean micro-sized Chl $\alpha$ concentration was high in October 1998 (0.81$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$), and low July 1998, January, February and September 1999 (0.05$\mu\textrm{g}$ㆍ1$^{-1}$). More than 65% of total Chl $\alpha$ was concentrated during spring and summer time between October and March. Microalgal variation appeared to be due to physical factors of seawater in the Antarctic nearshore from 1998 to 1999. The reason why micro-sized Chl $\alpha$ did not increase during austral summer was the bay had been frozen by decrease of water temperature. We think that total microalgal abundance was decreased because the summer microalgal abundance was determined by variation of water temperature during winter season. • Some results of the 5th Korean National Forest Inventory Program measured in 2007 were used to analyze annual diameter growth characteristics for major tree species distributed in Chungnam province. A total of 717 sample trees from 49 plots distributed in Chungnam province were measured and analyzed for annual diameter growth characteristics. As stand age and stand density increased, annual diameter growth rates for major species tended to decrease. The species of Prunus sargentii(2.14mm/yr) showed the best annual diameter growth rates and the others are Quercus serrata(2.10mm/yr), Pinus thunbergii(2.03mm/yr), Pinus densiflora(1.91mm/yr), and Castanea crenata(1.90mm/yr) in order. This information could be very useful to understand annual diameter growth characteristics for major species distributed in Chungnam province.

  • The spatial distribution of pan evaporation and pan evaporation trends have been studied. In this study, pan evaporation data from 1973 to 1990 for 56 climatological stations were analyzed. In addition to annual average daily pan evaporation, monthly average daily pan evaporation in April, July, October and January were analyzed, considering seasonal effect. The study results indicate that in case of annual average daily pan evaporation, 38 stations out of 56 stations show decreasing trend. In case of average daily pan evaporation in January, 33 stations show decreasing trend. In April, 38 stations show increasing trend. In July, 47 stations show decreasing trend. In October, 35 stations show increasing trend. Therefore, on the whole, pan evaporation tended to decrease in January, July, and annual basis. On the other hand, pan evaporation tended to increase in April and October. Furthermore, pan evaporation trend in each individual region shows also different trend even though the region is located nearby, indicating that there are geographical and topographical effects on pan evaporation trend. Pan evaporation data and climatic data from 1973 to 2006 for 11 climatological stations were used for trend analysis. Climatic variables such as temperature, relative humidity and wind speed show same or opposite trend direction compared with pan evaporation in annual or monthly basis. Annual and monthly solar radiation trends show the same direction compared with pan evaporation; however, annual and monthly precipitation trends show the opposite direction compared with pan evaporation.

  • Window and shading designs have a great influence on energy consumption and daylighting in buildings. As far as energy is concerned, small window area is advantageous. But it is not good to the patient healing in hospital. So it is important to find out the optimum window shape which is favorable for both energy consumption and patient healing. In this study, annual energy consumption and daylight illumination levels were analyzed according to the window shapes and shading devices for a multi-beded patient room in hospitals. The simulations were conducted for 19 different cases by COMFEN 4.0 computer simulation program. The results of this paper are as follows. First, window to wall area ratio and shading devices have great influences on annual energy consumption. But it is a problem in that they decrease significantly daylight level in bed room. Second, considering the same energy consumption, reducing the width of window rather than the hight of window is desirable for the secure of daylight level. Third, increase of the number of horizontal shade is not desirable in south face of the building for the energy consumption and daylight level. Fourth, sun shade is not necessary in north face of the building for the energy consumption and daylight level.

  • Ten-year AVHRR sea surface temperature data obtained in the Yellow Sea are put into EOF analyses. Temperature variation is predominated by the first mode which is associated with the seasonal fluctuation of temperature with annual range decreasing with the bottom depth. Since such a strong annual signal may mask the upwind or downwind flows occurring intermittently during the winter, only the data obtained during this season are put into EOF analyses. Every winter shows similar results. The first mode, explaining more than 90% of total variance, appears to be a part of the seasonal variation of temperature mentioned above. In the second mode, the time coefficient is well correlated with northerly winds to which the responses of the trough and shallow coastal areas are opposite to each other. A simple theoretical consideration suggests the following physical explanation: The northerly wind stress anomaly creates an upwind (downwind) flow over the trough (coastal) areas, which then induces a temperature increase (decrease) by advection of heat, and vice versa for the southerly wind stress anomaly. Hence, this paper provides further evidence of the intermittent upwind or downwind flows occurring in the Yellow Sea every winter.

  • The study examines the impact of corporate governance mechanisms, such as board characteristics on corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD). The data on CSRD items and board characteristics have been collected by content analysis of the annual reports of 30 publicly-listed banks in Bangladesh covering six years, from 2013 to 2018. More specifically, the directors' report, the chairman's statement, notes to the financial statement and CSR disclosure reports included in annual reports were used to collect the CSRD data. The empirical analysis applies the ordinary least square and the generalized method of moments. The results of the study have revealed that board size, board independence, female board member, and foreign directors have a significant positive impact on CSRD. By contrast, political directors and audit committee size have a negative impact on CSRD. Interestingly, accounting experts on boards ensure more CSRD as they curb the influence of politicians on the board. Thus, it is better to increase accounting experts and decrease politicians on the board. These findings provide valuable insights into the process of forming a suitable CSR policy by connecting the efforts of the board, government, and regulatory bodies to enhance the performance of banks to CSR as well as to CSRD.

  • The production and decomposition of litters and nutrient cycling of forests were studied at the pine forests such as Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Pinus thunbergii, Abies holophylla and Larix kaempfer. The annual litter production of the P. densiflora forest was the most on Mt. Mudeung which was 620.75g/$m^2$ and the least on Mt. Halla which was 155.00g/$m^2$. The decay rate of litters was the highest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Mudeung which was k=0.256 and the lowest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Halla and A. holophylla on Mt. Jiri which were k=0.099. The half time of decomposition of litters was shortest at the P. densiflora forest on Mt. Mudeung and the longest at the P. densiflora on Mt. Halla and A. holophylla forests on Mt. Jiri. The average decay rate of the L. kaempferi forests which was k=0.204 was the highest and that of the A. holophylla forests which was k=0.122 was the lowest. The decay rate tended to decrease against increasing the altitude. The annual production of litterr, the contents of mineral nutrients and the amounts of mineral nutrients inputted into the forest soil tended to increase in proportion to the decay rate, k.

  • Maturation and spawning of the Shotted halibut, Eopsetta grigorjewi was investigated based on the samples captured in South Korean waters from January 2008 to December 2009. Gonadosomatic index began to increase in December, and reached maximum between January to March. After spawning it began to decrease from May. Reproductive season was estimated to January-April, with peak in February. Fecundity was proportional to the size of the female, with the clutch size varying from 170,000 eggs in the smallest female (total length, 28.9cm) to 1,300,000 eggs in the largest (total length, 41.5cm). Size at 50% sexual maturity (TL50), determined from mature females, was 28.8cm. Annual reproductive cycles of this species could be divided into six successive stages; immature stage (May-October), nucleolus stage (November-January), yolk vesicle stage (January-February), vitellogenic and ripe stage (January-April) and spent stage (April-May).

  • The heat budget of the south eastern region (33$^{\circ}$N-36$^{\circ}$N, 120$^{\circ}$E-125$^{\circ}$E) of the Yellow Sea was calculated by using the meteorological and oceanographical data. The sensibly heat, the evaporation heat and the long wave back radiation have annual variation and increases toward south with strong gradient along the Cheju channel in winter, but they all show tendency to decrease toward eastern coastal area in summer. The area is roughly divided into three parts, the central part, the coastal part and the southern part, according to the characteristics ovariation and distribution patterns of the exchanged heats. The amplitude of the annual variation of total heat exchange in the southern part is very large compare to those of the central and coastal part. The studied area is appeared to be heated mainly by the evaporation heat and the sensoble heat, based on the results of this study.

  • With 9 existng reservoirs selected in the Sab-Gyo River Basin, the sedimentation of the reservoirs has been calculated by comparing the present capacity with the original value, which revealed its reduced reservoirs capacity. The reservoirs has a total drainage area of 6,792 ha, with a total capacity of 1,204.09 ha-m, and are short of water supply due to reduction of reservoirs capacity. Annual sedimention in the reservcire is relation to the drainage area, the mean of annual rain fall, and the slop of drainage area. The results of obtained from the investigation are summarized as follow; (1) A sediment deposition rate is very high, being about $9.19{m}^3/ha$ of drainage area, and resulting in the average decrease of reservoir capacity by 19.1%. This high rate of deposition could be mainly attributed to the serve denvdation of forests due to disor derly cuttings of tree. (2) An average unit storage of 415.8mm as the time of initial construation is decreesed to 315.59mm at present, as resultting, we could'nt supply water at 566.24ha. (3) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the capacity of unit drainage area is as follow; $Qs=1.43 (c/a)^{0.531}$ (4) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the mean of annval rainfall is as follow; $Qs=672.61 p^{0.024}$ (5) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the mean slop of drainage area is follow; $Qs=267.21 S^{0.597}$
