In this study a new design concept of the Fabry-Perot filter, constructed with an anisotropic space layer and a couple of isotropic mirrors, was proposed based on the Maxwell equations and the characteristic matrix method. The single- and double-cavity Fabry-Perot filters were designed, and their optical properties were investigated with a developed software package. In addition, the dependence of the transmittance and phase shift for two orthogonal polarization states on the column angle of the anisotropic space layer and the incidence angle were discussed. We demonstrated that the polarization state of electromagnetic waves and phase shifts can be modulated by exploiting an anisotropic space layer in a polarization F-P filter. Birefringence of the anisotropic space layer provided a sophisticated phase modulation with varied incidence angles over a broad range, resulting in a wide-angle phase shift. This new concept would be useful for designing optical components with isotropic and anisotropic materials.
The laminar boundary layer flow and heat transfer of anisotropic fluids in the vicinity of a wedge have been examined with constant surface temperature. The similarity variables found by Falkner and Skan are employed to reduce the stream wise-dependence in the coupled nonlinear boundary layer equations. The numerical solutions are presented using the fourth-order Runge - Kutta method and the distribution of velocity, micro-rotation, shear and couple stresses and temperature across the boundary layer are plotted. These results are also compared with the corresponding flow problems for Newtonian fluid over wedges. It is found that for a constant wedge angle, the skin friction coefficient is lower for micropolar fluid, as compared to Newtonian fluid. For the case of the constant material parameter K, however, the magnitude of velocity for anisotropic fluid is greater than that of Newtonian fluid. The numerical results also show that for a constant wedge angle with a given Prandtl number, Pr = I, the effect of increasing values of K results in increasing thermal boundary layer thickness for anisotropic fluid, as compared with Newtonian fluid. For the case of the constant material parameter K, however, the heat transfer rate for anisotropic fluid is lower than that of Newtonian fluid.

We fabricated grooved mushroom structures with anisotropic wettability on silicon substrates using basic MEMS processes. The geometry of these grooved mushroom structures could be changed by controlling the additional IPA solution during Si etching by TMAH solution. To understand anisotropic wettability, contact angles (CAs) of hexadecane droplets were measured in the orthogonal and parallel directions to grooved lines. The CA measurement results displayed anisotropic wetting on the grooved mushroom structures. However, specimens with $80{\mu}m$ distance between top layers displayed isotropic and superoleophobic wetting. This study demonstrates that the thickness of the top layer is more critical than the width or height of the ridge when determining the wettability of organic solvent. Despite the wide distance between top layers ($80{\mu}m$), the specimen with a thin top layer (100 nm) showed highly anisotropic wetting and low CA due to the pinning of droplets at the edge of the top layer.
The paper aims to analyze the behaviour of torsional type surface waves propagating through fluid saturated inhomogeneous porous media clamped between two inhomogeneous anisotropic media. We considered three types of inhomogeneities in upper anisotropic layer which varies exponentially, quadratically and hyperbolically with depth. The anisotropic half space inhomogeneity varies linearly with depth and intermediate layer is taken as inhomogeneous fluid saturated porous media with sinusoidal variation. Following Biot, the dispersion equation has been derived in a closed form which contains Whittaker's function and its derivative, for approximate result that have been expanded asymptotically up to second term. Possible particular cases have been established which are in perfect agreement with standard results and observe that when one of the upper layer vanishes and other layer is homogeneous isotropic over a homogeneous half space, the velocity of torsional type surface waves coincides with that of classical Love type wave. Comparative study has been made to identify the effects of various dimensionless parameters viz. inhomogeneity parameters, anisotropy parameters, porosity parameter, and initial stress parameters on the torsional wave propagation by means of graphs using MATLAB. The study has its own relevance in connection with the propagation of seismic waves in the earth where fluid saturated poroelastic layer is present.

Geometric imperfections may be created during the production process or setting borders of single-layer graphene sheets (SLGSs). Vacancy defects are an instance of geometric imperfection, so investigating the effect of these vacancies on the mechanical properties of single-layer graphene is extremely important. Since very few studies have been conducted on the structure of imperfect graphene (with the vacancy defect) as an anisotropic structure, further study of this defective structure seems imperative. Due to the vacancy defects and for the proper assessment of mechanical properties, the graphene structure should be considered anisotropic in certain states. The present study investigates the effects of site and size of vacancy defects on the mechanical properties of graphene as an anisotropic structure using the lekhnitskii interaction coefficients and Molecular Dynamic approach. The effect of temperature on the severity of the SLGS becoming anisotropic is also investigated in this study. The results reveal that the amount of temperature has a big effect on the severity of the structure getting anisotropic even for a graphene without any defects. The effect of aspect ratio, temperature and also size and site of vacancy defects on the material properties of the graphene are studied in this research work. According to the present study, using material properties of flawless graphene for imperfect structure can lead to inaccurate results.
We suggest an effective expression of transmission coefficients between uniaxial anisotropic media. To study the transmission of oblique incident light by stratified anisotropic planar structures, we included an imaginary isotropic layer sandwiched between those anisotropic media, and then considered multiple reflection within the imaginary layer. The adequacy of this expression is confirmed by comparing the polarization analysis of light passing through the anisotropic medium and the multi.layered anisotropic media.

In the current study, the R-value behavior of a two-layer clad steel was investigated using finite element analysis. Hill's 1948 anisotropic yield equation was employed to characterize the anisotropic behavior of the steel with different assumed properties: isotropic (R=1) and anisotropic (R=2). Experimental R-values were determined by measuring the width and thickness ratios of tensile specimens. Finite element analysis results demonstrate a difference in strain behavior in the width and the thickness directions of the clad steel. The R-value behavior depends on the fraction of the clad materials and total elongation.

A grooved surface with anisotropic wettability was fabricated on a silicon substrate using photolithography, reactive ion etching, and a KOH etching process. The contact angles (CAs) of water droplets were measured and compared with the theoretical values in the Cassie state and Wenzel state. The experimental results showed that the contact area between a water droplet and a solid surface was important to determine the wettability of the water. The specimens with native oxide layers presented CAs ranging from $71.6^{\circ}$ to $86.4^{\circ}$. The droplets on the specimens with a native oxide layer could be in the Cassie state because they had relatively smooth surfaces. However, the CAs of the specimens with thick oxide layers ranged from $33.4^{\circ}$ to $59.1^{\circ}$. This indicated that the surface roughness for a specimen with a relatively thick oxide layer was higher, and the water droplet was in the Wenzel state. From the CA measurement results, it was observed that the wetting on the grooved surface was anisotropic for all of the specimens.
The crystals of group-Ⅲ nitride semiconductors with wurtzite structure exhibit a strong polarity. Especially, GaN has characteristics of different growth rate, anisotropic electrical and optical properties due to the polarity. In this work, GaN epilayer was grown and the polarities of the crystals were observed by the chemical wet etching and SP-EFM. GaN thin films were deposited on c-plane A1₂O₃ substrate under the variations of growth conditions by HVPE such as the deposition temperature of the buffer layer, the deposition time, the ratio of Group-V and Ⅲ and the deposition temperature of the film. The adquate results were obtained under the conditions of 500℃, 90 seconds, 1333 and 1080℃, respectively. It is observed that the GaN layer grown without the buffer layer has N-polarity and the GaN layer grown on the buffer layer has Ga-polarity. Fine crystal single particles were grown on c-plane A1₂O₃ and SiO₂, layer. The external shape of the crystal shows {10-11}{10-10}(000-1) planes as expected in the PBC theory and anisotropic behavior along c-axis is obvious. As a result of etching on each plane, (000-1) and {10-11}planes were etched strongly due to the N-polarity and {10-10} plane was not affected due to the non-polarity. In the case of the crystal grown on c-plane A1₂O₃, two types of crystals were grown. They were hexagonal pyramidal-shape with {10-11}plane and hexagonal prism with basal plane. The latter might be grown by twin plane reentrant edge (TPRE) growth.
The effective reflection coefficients of an obliquely incident wave on a multi-layered substrate coated with a uniaxially anisotropic alignment layer are derived. The effective reflection coefficients as well as explicit ellipsometric expressions are provided as a function of film constants of multiple layers together with magnitude of anisotropy, direction of optic axis, and thickness of the alignment layer. It is expected that by adapting these expressions to the conventional modelling technique, the ordinary refractive index, the extra-ordinary refractive index, the azimuth angle and the tilt angle of the optic axis, and the thickness of the aligned surface can be determined simultaneously together with the thickness and volume fraction of each layer beneath the alignment layer.
