Competition among anion species in solution for same sorption sites and soil surface can be of major significance in determining the effective mobility of any potentially adsorbing species. Major soil anion species include $OH^-$, $F^-$, $Cl^-$, $HCO_3{^-}$, $CO_3{^-}$, $NO_3{^-}$, $SO_4{^{2-}}$, and $PO_4{^{3-}}$. And some micro nutrients such as boron and molybdenum exist as $H_2BO_3{^-}$ and $MoO_4{^{2-}}$, as do some heavy metals such as chrome and arsenic as $CrO_4{^{2-}}$ and $HAsO_4{^{2-}}$. Pesticides such as 2,4,5-T and 2,4-D also exist as anions. Many anion species are retained by more complex mechanisms than the simple electrostatic attractions involved in most cation adsorption reactions. In binary system composed of two anions, the adsorption of one anion is influenced by the other anion due to the competition for the available and limited binding sites in soil constituents. The specifically adsorbed anions may compete more effectively for sorption sites than that of nonspecifically adsorbed anion. In this study, we aim to evaluate the mathematical models to determine the magnitude of concentration variations in adsorption due to competitive interactions between anions introduced to a system in binary mixtures.
The elution behaviors of molybdate and tungstate through anion exchange column have been investigated in the various concentration of hydrochloric and perchloric acid. A discussion is made to evaluate the existing these equilibrium and constant according to acidity. In both acids of 0.01-2.0 M concentration range, the existing equilibrium for molybdate and its constant calculated at $20^{\circ}C$ is $10^{18.9}$ for $Mo_8O_2^{4-} + 20H^+ {\rightleftharpoons} 8MoO_2^{2+} + 10H_2O$. In the 3-3.5 M hydrochloric acid it is 0.16 for $MoO_2Cl_2 + Cl^- {\rightleftharpoons} MoO_2Cl^{3-}$ and for the case of tungstate, in the both acids of 0.01-1.0 M concentration range $10^{6.6}$ for $W_{12}O_{39}^{6-} + 6H^+ {\rightleftharpoons} 12WO_3{\cdot}3H_2O$. In higher concentration than 1.0 M both acids the following equilibrium seems to be existed. $12WO_3{\cdot}3H_2O {\rightleftharpoons} 12WO_3 + 3H_2O$
Using a conventional two-compartment cell with stirrers the separation of an aqueous solution of HCl-$NiCl_2$ by an anion-exchange membrane Neosepta-AFN was investigated. The dialysis process was characterized by the permeability coefficient of the membrane towards to $Cl^-$ ions. This quantity was determined by the numerical integration of equations, which describe the time dependence of the total concentration of $Cl^-$ ions in compartment initially filled with stripping agent (water), combined with an optimizing procedure. The analysis of the experimental results showed that this permeability coefficient is a satisfactory characteristic for the process studied. It can be graphically correlated with the initial acid and initial salt concentrations in the compartment initially filled with acid+salt mixture.
Objectives : The verity extract of the Gagam-Hyungbang-Gihwang-tang (GHG) was assessed to determine the mechanisms of its antioxidant activity. Methods : The fellowing effects were measured : GHG exhibited a concentration-treatment; scavenging ${\alpha},\;{\alpha}-diphenyl-\beta-picrylhydrazyl$ (DPPH) radical, linoleic acid oxidation in a thiocyanate assay system, and superoxide anion, hydroxyl radical-induced DNA nicking. We investigated mRNA levels such as superoxide-dismutase. Results : The GHG extract showed dose-dependent free radical scavenging activity, including DPPH radicals, hydroxyl radicals, and superoxide anion, using different systems. The GHG was also found to be effective in protecting plasmid DNA against the strand breakage induced by hydroxyl radicals in Fenton's reaction mixture. Furthermore, SOD-1 mRNA expression levels increased in tat hepatoma H4IIE cells Conclusions : We expect that GHG will to helpful to the development of antioxidant activity treatments.
Anil K. Singh, Mrunalini M. Kapil, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay - 400076, INDIA Purple membrane (PM, $\lambda$$_{max}$ 570 nm) of H. halobium on treatment with sulphuric acid changes its colour to blue ($\lambda$$_{max}$ 608 nm). The purple chromophore can be regenerated from the blue chromophore by exogeneous addition of anions such as CI$^-$ and HPO$_4^{2-}$. Chloride ion is found to be more effective than the dibasic phosphate ion in regenerating the purple chromophore. Nevertheless, one thing common to the anion regeneration is that both CI$^-$ and HPO$_4^{2-}$ show marked pH effect. At pH 1.0 the efficiency of regeneration of the purple chromophore is greater than at pH 2.0, for the same anion concentration. Fluorescence and circular dichroic studies indicate that the proteins do not undergo drastic changes at the secondary' or tertiary structure level and the native structure is preserved during this transition. However, chromophoric-site interactions between retinal and the apoprotein are affected during this colour transition. A molecular mechanism is advanced for this transition.
Odontoglossum ringspot virus (ORSV) was finally purified from ORSV-infected orchid plants by diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) cellulose anion exchange column chromatography. The virus was reliably eluted by potassium chloride at the concentration from 0.1 M to 0.13 M. Partial purification was done by solubilization with Triton X-100 (allkylphenoxypolyethoxy ethanol) and precipitation with polyethylene glycol (PEG; MW 8,000). The finally purified ORSV represented one distinct homogeneous band and the molecular weight of its capsid protein was about 17,500 Dalton in electrophoretic analysis. Electron microscopy showed not only intact particles ranged from 280 nm to 340 nm in length, but also segmented particles that final 140 nm to 220 nm and even disks. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) showed that final yield was 12 mg/100 g of the infected leaves. Bioassay demonstrated that the purified ORSV had the normal infectivity to orchid plants and Nicotiana glutionsa. Based on these data, anion exchange column chromatography could be efficiently applied to the purification of ORSV and other viruses similar to ORSV.
The effects of the cation-to-anion resin ratio and bed depth on ion exchange performance of mixed-bed were studied at ultralow solution concentration. Breakthrough curves were experimentally obtained for NaCI solution as functions of resin ratio and bed depth. The bed depth affects the pattern of the sodium breakthrough curve but not the chloride breakthrough curve in beds because of the selectivity difference. Resin selectivity determines the shape of breakthrough curves, Some sodium and chloride breakthrough curves crossed at a point as a function of resin ratio. The lower cation-to-anion resin ratio showed the higher effluent concentration or treated volume of the crossover point regardless of the total resin weight.
Measurements of proton adsorption density have been conducted in preparing alumina suspensions with aqueous solutions of HCL, HNO3, H2SO4 and H3PO4 And effects of anion acid concentration proton adsorption density and solid loading on the viscosity of the alumina suspensions have been investigated. Aqueous solutions of HCl. or HNO3 were suitable for the preparation of highly concentrated suspensions as the generation of surface charge on alumina particles was depressed by the specific adsorption of {{{{ {SO }`_{4 } ^{2- } }} and {{{{ { PO}`_{4 } ^{3- } }} Optimum conditions for maximizing solid loading were dependent upon proton adsorption density and acid concentration.
The anion exchange separation of a number of benzoic acid and its derivatives has been studied in various concentrations of $NiCl_2-methanol$ solvent medium. The volume distribution coefficients with Amberlite CG-400, $Cl^-$form have been measured in these medium. Several synthetic mixtures of organic acids were separated quantitatively by elution with a suitable concentration of $NiCl_2-MeOH$ solution suggested by the distribution data. The concentration of organic acids were determined by UV spectrophotometry.
Performance evaluation of four commercially available tubular membranes (AFC 80, AFC 30, PU 608, ES 404) was accomplished in self-assembled membrane testing unit. Effects of varying transmembrane pressure, feed concentration and anion type were investigated. Aqueous solutions of salts such as calcium chloride, calcium sulfate, tin chloride and tin sulfate were prepared for this study. It was noted that the investigated parameters e.g., pressure and concentration had significant effects on membrane's performance. Nevertheless, anion type effectively played its role in the rejection of salts since salt having SO4-2 anions had a better rejection than the salts containing Cl-1. It is observed that rejection was dominated by Donnon exclusion for strongly charged nanofiltration membranes whereas for weakly charged ultrafiltration membranes, size exclusion was the key mechanism to reject the ions.
