We measured an anisotropy inhomogeniety and dispersion of rf sputterd permalloy thin films by TBP(Transverse Biased Permeability) measurement method. Angular distribution function had a shape similar to the Lorentzian distribution, but magnitude distribution function deviates from the sysmetric Lorentzian distribution because of long tail to the region of a high Hk value. With increasing film thickness, the angular and magnitude anisotropy dispersion increased. The increase of angular dispersion was due to both the increase of grain size and local anisotropy in thicker films.
The angular distribution of the luminance on each optical component of 40-inch light-emitting diode backlight was measured and studied, using the optical-simulation method. Several scattering functions were investigated as the reflection distribution function of the scattering dots printed on the bottom surface of the light guide plate (LGP). It was found that both the diffuse Lambertian and near-specular Gaussian scattering functions were necessary for the successful reproduction of the experimental angular distribution of the luminance. The optimization of the scattering parameters included in these scattering functions led to almost the same luminance distribution as that obtained from the experiment. This approach may be an effective way of indirectly estimating the reflection distribution function of the scattering dots of the LGP, which cannot be made accessible through any other experimental method.
The structures of crystalline vitreous and liquid $SiO_2$ were Monte carlo simulated employing the potential energy function comprising Lennard-Jones 2-body and Axilrod-Teller 3-body potentials. Although the Si-O-Si angular distribution functions obtained in the simulation appear to be higher than the experimental results the other simulation results including SiO, O-O and Si-Si radial distribution functions and O-Si-O anglular distribution functions agree well with experimental data within acceptable limits. Themost important outcome in this study is that various $SiO_2$forms were successfully reproduced with the same potential energy function.
The accurate evaluation of wind characteristics and wind-induced structural responses during a typhoon is of significant importance for bridge design and safety assessment. This paper presents an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm-based angular-linear approach for probabilistic modeling of field-measured wind characteristics. The proposed method has been applied to model the wind speed and direction data during typhoons recorded by the structural health monitoring (SHM) system instrumented on the arch Jiubao Bridge located in Hangzhou, China. In the summer of 2015, three typhoons, i.e., Typhoon Chan-hom, Typhoon Soudelor and Typhoon Goni, made landfall in the east of China and then struck the Jiubao Bridge. By analyzing the wind monitoring data such as the wind speed and direction measured by three anemometers during typhoons, the wind characteristics during typhoons are derived, including the average wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density (PSD). An EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach is proposed for modeling the joint distribution of the wind speed and direction. For the marginal distribution of the wind speed, the finite mixture of two-parameter Weibull distribution is employed, and the finite mixture of von Mises distribution is used to represent the wind direction. The parameters of each distribution model are estimated by use of the EM algorithm, and the optimal model is determined by the values of $R^2$ statistic and the Akaike's information criterion (AIC). The results indicate that the stochastic properties of the wind field around the bridge site during typhoons are effectively characterized by the proposed EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach. The formulated joint distribution of the wind speed and direction can serve as a solid foundation for the purpose of accurately evaluating the typhoon-induced fatigue damage of long-span bridges.
Recent redshift surveys suggest that most galaxies may be distributed on the surfaces of bubbles surrounding large voids. To investigate the quantitative consistency of this qualitative picture of large-scale structure, we study analytically the clustering properties of galaxies in a universe filled with spherical shells. In this paper, we report the results of the calculations for the spatial and angular two-point correlation functions of galaxies. With ${\sim}20%$ of galaxies in clusters and a power law distribution of shell sizes, $n_{sh}(R){\sim}R^{-{\alpha}}$, ${\alpha}\;{\simeq}\;4$, the observed slope and amplitude of the spatial two-point correlation function ${\xi}_{gg}(r)$ can be reproduced. (It has been shown that the same model parameters reproduce the enhanced cluster two-point correlation function, ${\xi}_{cc}(r)$). The corresponding angular two-point correlation function $w({\theta})$ is calculated using the relativistic form of Limber's equation and the Schecter-type luminosity function. The calculated w(${\theta}$) agrees with the observed one quite well on small separations (${\theta}{\lesssim}2deg$).
A novel battery SOH estimation algorithm based on outlier detection has been presented. The Battery state of health (SOH) is one of the most important parameters that describes the usability state of the power battery system. Firstly, a battery system model with lifetime fading characteristic was established, and the battery characteristic parameters were acquired from the lifetime fading process. Then, the outlier detection method based on angular distribution was used to identify the outliers among the battery behaviors. Lastly, the functional relationship between battery SOH and the outlier distribution was obtained by polynomial fitting method. The experimental results show that the algorithm can identify the outliers accurately, and the absolute error between the SOH estimation value and true value is less than 3%.
To extend the work of Gott, Park, and Lee (1989), statistical properties of gravitational lensing in a wide variety of cosmological models involving non-zero cosmological constant is investigated, using the redshifts of both lens and source and observed angular separation of images for gravitational lens systems. We assume singular isothermal sphere as lensing galaxy in homogenous and isotropic FriedmannLemaitre-Robertson- Walker universe, Schechter luminosity function, standard angular diameter distance formula and other galaxy parameters used in Fukugita and Turner (1991). To find the most adequate flat cosmological model and put a limit on the value of dimensionless cosmological constant $\lambda_0$, the mean value of the angular separation of images, probability distribution of angular separation and cumulative probability are calculated for given source and lens redshifts and compared with the observed values through several statistical methods. When there is no angular selection effect, models with highest value of $\lambda_0$ is preferred generally. When the angular selection effects are considered, the preferred model depends on the shape of the selection functions and statistical methods; yet, models with large $\lambda_0$ are preferred in general. However, the present data can not rule out any of the flat universe models with enough confidence. This approach can potentially select out best model. But at the moment, we need more data.

We study the angular correlation function of bright ($K_s{\leq}19.5$) Extremely Red Objects (EROs) selected in the Subaru GTO 2$deg^2$ field. By applying the color selection criteria of $R-K_s$ > 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0, we identify 9055, 4270, and 1777 EROs, respectively. The number density is consistent with similar studies on the optical - NIR color selected red galaxies. The angular correlation functions are derived for EROs with different limiting magnitude and different $R-K_s$ color cut. When we assume that the angular correlation function $w({\theta})$ follows a form of a power-law (i.e., $w({\theta})=A{\theta}^{-{\delta}}$), the value of the amplitude A was larger for brighter EROs compared to the fainter EROs. The result suggests that the brighter, thus more massive high-redshift galaxies, are clustered more strongly compared to the less massive galaxies. Assuming that EROs have redshift distribution centered at ~ 1.1 with ${\sigma}_z=0.15$, the spatial correlation length $r_0$ of the EROs estimated from the observed angular correlation function ranges ${\sim}6-10h^{-1}Mpc$. A comparison with the clustering of dark matter halos in numerical simulation suggests that the EROs are located in most massive dark matter halos and could be progenitors of $L_{\ast}$ elliptical galaxies.
Based on the collisional time-correlation function approach a general analytical expression has been derived for the double differential cross-section with respect to the scattering angle and the final rotational energy, which can be applied to molecules with non-zero electronic orbital angular momentum after collision with fast hydrogen atoms. By integrating this expression another very simple expression, which gives the final rotational distribution as a function of the rotational quantum number, has also been derived. When this expression is applied to NO(2Π1/2, v'=1) and NO(2Π3/2, v'=1, 2, 3), it can reproduce the experimental rotational distribution after collision with fast H atom very well. The average rotational quantum number and average rotational energy using this expression are also in good agreement with those deduced from the experimental distributions.
