  • Wetting properties between silver-copper-titanium braze alloys with different titanium contents up to 2.8 mass% and hexagonal boron nitride ceramics were investigated using sessile drop method at 1123K in Argon. The final contact angle is less than $30^{\circ}$ when the Ti content was over 0.41 mass%. Meanwhile, the contact angle curves show different behavior. In case of using braze alloy containing 2.8 mass% of titanium, the initial contact angle is acute angle just after the melting of braze. In case of brazes containing titanium less than 2.26 mass%, the contact angle is larger than $90^{\circ}$ at the beginning and slowly decreases to acute angle. The reaction layer of titanium nitride is observed at the interface. In addition, the reaction of Ti in the braze and N in the bulk h-BN seemed to show diffusion limited spreading.

  • The range profile is easily obtainable and promising feature vector in the aspect of real-time radar target recognition system. However, the range profile is highly dependent on a aspect angle of a target and this dependence make it difficult the recognition over wide-angular region. In this paper, we propose the classifier with subclass concept in order to solve this dependence problem. Recognition results using six aircraft models measured at compact range facility are presented to show the effectiveness of this proposed classifier over wide-angular region.

  • Mutually pumped phase conjugator(MPPC) is experimentally investigated and analyzed in terms of fanning gratings of a photorefractive BaTiO$_3$ crystal. As considering the intensity-dependent absorption and coupling cofficients in photorefractive two wave mixing, the dependence of phase conjugate reflectivites on the incident angle, beam ratio, and total intensity in MPPC is analyzed.

  • In the present study, the dependence of ultrasonic phase velocity on porosity and frequency in cancellous bone was predicted using the Biot model and the modified Biot-Attenborough (MBA) model for propagation in fluid-saturated porous media. It was also compared with previously published measurements in human and bovine cancellous bones in vitro. It was shown that the phase velocity in cancellous bone decreased with increasing porosity and frequency The dependence of phase velocity on propagation angle in cancellous bone as predicted using the Schoenberg model together with the Biot model and tile MBA model which were modified to include the effect of angle. The theoretical models used in the present study advance our understanding of the interaction between ultrasound and cancellous bone and can be expected to be usefully employed for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

  • As the physical properties of nematic liquid crystals vary with respect to temperature, the performances of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are highly dependent on temperature. Additionally, it is well known that the electro-optic characteristics of LCDs, such as transmittance and threshold voltage, also rely on the LCD switching modes. The temperature dependence of the electro-optic characteristics of the wide-viewing-angle LCD modes, such as in-plane switching (IPS), multidomain vertical alignment by patterned electrode (PVA), and fringe-field switching (FFS), have been studied, and the results showed that the FFS mode has lower temperature dependence compared to the IPS and PVA modes. Since the liquid crystal (LC) reorients in different ways in each mode, this result is associated with the temperature dependence of LC's bend and twist elastic constants, and also with the position of the main reorientation, either in the middle or on the surface of the LC layer.

  • Radiation sources used in the field of industrial non-destructive pose a risk of exposure due to ageing equipment and operator carelessness. Thus, the need for a safety management system to trace the location of the source is being added. In this study, Monte Carlo Simulation was performed to analyse the angle dependence of the unit-cell comprising the line-array dosimeter for tracking the location of radiation sources. As a result, the margin of error for the top 10% of each slope was 5.90% at $0^{\circ}$, 8.08% at $30^{\circ}$, and 20.90% at $60^{\circ}$. The ratio of the total absorbed dose was 83.77% at $30^{\circ}$ and 53.36% at $60^{\circ}$ based on $0^{\circ}$(100%) and showed a tendency to decrease with increasing slope. For all gradients, the maximum number was shown at $30^{\circ}$ No. 9 pixels, and for No. 10, there was a tendency to drop 7.24 percent. This study has shown a large amount of angle dependence, and it is estimated that the proper distance between the source and line-array dosimeters should be maintained at a distance of not less than 1 cm to reduce them.

  • An angular dependence experiment was made and a performance test of the Teledyne dosimetry system was done in accordance with the ANSI N13.11-1992. The angular dependence experiment was performed with $^{137}Cs$ and low energy X-ray beam. Teledyne dosimetry system performed well at the $0^{\circ}$ angle of incidence for all dosimeters in both vertical and horizontal irradiations. It would have easily passed the 0.5 tolerance limit. But the dosimetry system was not performed well at the ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ angle of incidence for low energy X-ray beam. The accuracy for $^{137}Cs$ beam at all angles of incidence was within the 0.5 tolerance limit. Therefore performance of the dosimetry system could be considered acceptable in case that the dosimeter is irradiated to $^{137}Cs$ beam. However, it could not be acceptable for the dosimeter irradiated to low energy X-ray, especially at more than ${\pm}40^{\circ}$

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of the channel in corrugated plate type heat exchangers numerically. Numerical work has been conducted using the Reynolds Stress Model(RSM) by utilizing the commercial finite-volume code, FLUENT. Based on this model, the dependence of heat transfer and friction factor on geometrical parameters have been investigated. It is found that larger corrugation angle give higher values of heat transfer coefficients and friction factors. As the reynolds number increases, the heat transfer coefficient also increases. It is also observed that the heat transfer coefficient reaches maximum while the friction factor stays relatively low at same corrugation angle. Through the analysis, it is found that the optimum corrugation angle for the heat exchanger performance exists. It is noted that the flow repulsions at the contact point of the two fluid streams make the low mixing more active for larger corrugation angle and high reynolds number.

  • A complete analysis of the color-viewing-angle properties of different displays is presented herein using color-viewing-angle measurements made with a Fourier-optics system. The color gamut in the CIE u'v' chromatic plane was computed for all the viewing angles. The introduction of the lightness using the $L^*a^*b^*$ color space allowed a more precise analysis of the emissive properties of each display. The displays can be directly compared using a common reference. The viewing-angle dependence can be analyzed in full detail using the on-axis values as reference. The gravity center behavior and area of the color hull were computed for a more precise evaluation and comparison.
