A method of light pre-irradiation, one of methods modifying hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic surface in a membrane, was proposed to overcome the drawback of previous methods such as blending, chemical treatment and post-irradiation, Process of membrane preparation in the study was comprised of 4 parts as follows: firstly process of precursor preparation to introduce hydrophilic nature under atmosphere and aqueous vapor by irradiating electron beam (EB), secondly process of dope solution preparation to cast on non-woven fabrics, thirdly process of casting to prepare membrane and finally process of coagulation in non-solvent to form porous structure. The merit of this method might show simple process as well as homogenous modification compared to previous methods. To carry it out, precursor was prepared by irradiating EB to powder PVDF at 75~125 K Gray dose. Precursor prepared was analyzed by FTIR, EDS and DSC to confirm the introduction of hydrophilic function and its mechanism. From their results, it was inferred I conformed that hydrophilic function was hydroxy1 and it was introduced by dehydrozenation. Hydrophilicity of membranes prepared was evaluated by contact angle (pristine PVDF : $62^{\circ}$, 125 K Gray-PVDF$13^{\circ}$). Porosity was evaluated by mercury intrusion method, simultaneously morpholoy and surface pore size were observed by SEM phothographs. The result showed the trend that more dose of EB led to smaller pore size and to lower porosity (pristine PVDF : 82%, 125 K Gray-PVDF : 63%). Trend of water permeability was similar to result above (pristine PVDF : 892 LMH, 125 K Gray-PVDF : 355 LMH).
The structural characteristics of Antheraea yamamai and Antheraea pernyi silk were investigated by using x-ray diffraction method, IR spectroscopy and polarizing microscopy. The amino acid composition, fiber density, thermal decomposition temperature and glass transition temperature were also measured for relating these physical properties to the structure in comparison with those of Bombyx mori silk fiber. There was no significant structural difference between A. yamamai and A. pernyi silk fiber on an examination of x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum. Both of these wild silk fibers showed double diffraction peaks at the Bragg angle 2Θ16.7˚ and 20.5˚by x-ray diffraction analysis as well as IR absorption peaks for the bending vibration of specific groups related to ala-ala amino acid sequence. On the other hand, the x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum of Bombyx mori silk fiber are different from those of wild silk fibers, indicating different crystal structure as well as amino acid sequences. It showed under the polarizing microscope examination that the birefringence and optical orientation factor of wild silk fibers are much lower than those of B. mori silk. Also, the surface of degummed wild silk fibers was characterized by the longitudinal stripes of microfibrils in the direction of fiber axies. The amino acid composition, which is strongly related to the fine structure and properties, was not significantly different between these two wild silk fibers. However, the alanine content was somewhat less and polar amino acid content more for A. yamamai. As a result of fiber density measurement, the specific gravities of B. mori, A. pernyi and A. yamamai were 1.355~1.356, 1.308~1.311, 1.265~1.301g/㎤ in the order, respectively. The calculated crystallinity(%) was 64% for B. mori and 51~52% for wild silk fibers, which showed same trend by IR method in spite of somewhat higher value. The thermal decomposition behaviour was examined by DSC and TGA, showing that the degradation temperature was in the order of B mori, A. prernyi and A. yamamai at around 350$^{\circ}C$. It was also observed by TGA that the decomposition seems to proceed step by step according to their specific regions in the fiber structure, resulting the difference in their thermal stabilities. The glass transition temperature was turned out to be 220$^{\circ}C$ for B. mori, 240$^{\circ}C$ A. yamamai and 255$^{\circ}C$ A. pernyi by the dynamic mechanical analysis. It is expected that the chemical properties are affected by the dynamic mechanical behavior in accordance with their structural characters.
1) The decrease in strength of Raschel twines at Raschel joints is regarded to be due mainly to the frictional force between yarns and the unbalanced tensile distribution by the deformation of the joints. The rate of the decrease is about $13\%$ in lengthwise pull and 22 to $26\%$ in breadthwise pull. 2) The 3-course joint is less in deformation and stronger than the 2-course joint in all cases of pulls. 3) The variation of Raschel joint strength $T_R$ with the angle $\varphi$ between the adjacent bars is expressed as $T_R=T_{R0}-k\varphi$ where $T_{R0}$ is the strength at $\varphi=0^{\circ}$ and K is a constant. 4) The tensile strength ${\sigma}R$ and tile breaking energy $E_R$ of Raschel netting are given by $${\sigma}R=KN\;or\;${\sigma}R=T_RN$$ and $$E_R=AN$$ respectively, where N is the number of meshes at the pulling side, and K and A are constants. But the breaking energy of the netting is almost constant independent of tile variation of N. 5) The Raschel netting with some bars cut already breaks from tile joints of the bars next to the cut bars and its tensile strength, breaking energy, and breaking elongation decrease largily even if only one bar is in already cut state. 6) The tearing strength of Raschel netting is almost equal to the tensile strength of its single joint pulled by two bars. 7) The twisted joint is much more excellent in strength than the knot or the Raschel joint. The knot strength is 69 to $76\%$, and the Raschel joint strength is 71 to $74\%$ in lengthwise pull and 62 to $67\%$ in breadthwise pull, respectively, of the twisted joint strength.
The problems in the existing modeling rules for fishing nets, especially in the Tauti's rule which had been used most commonly, were investigated and it was found that the rules could not give a good similarity between the prototype and model nets because they din neither analyze the flow resistance of nets accurately nor decide the ratio of flow velocity between the two nets properly. Thus, the modeling rule was newly derived by regarding the nets as holey structures sucking water into their mouth and then filtering water through their meshes as in the previous paper. The similarity conditions obtained, between the two nets distinguished by subscript 1 and 2, are as follows; $$\frac{d_2}{d_1}=\sqrt{\frac{l_2}{l_1}},\;\frac{N_2}{N_1}=(\frac{d_1}{d_2})^{1.5}\frac{L_2}{L_1},\;\varphi_1=\varphi_2,\;\frac{d_{r2}}{d_{r1}}=\sqrt{\frac{L_2{(\rho_{r1}-\rho_{w1})}}{{L_1{(\rho_{r2}-\rho_{w2})}}$$$$\frac{N_{a2}}{N_{a1}}=\frac{W_{a1}}{W_{a2}}(\frac{L_2}{L_1})^2,\;\nu_1=\nu_2\;and\;\frac{R_2}{R_1}=(\frac{L_2}{L_1})^2$$, where L is the length of nettings, d the diameter of netting twines, 2l the mesh size, $2\varphi$ the angle between two adjacent bars, N the number of meshes at the sides of nettings, $d_r$, the diameter of ropes, $\rho_r$, the specific gravity of ropes, $W_a$ the weight in water of one piece of float or sinker, $N_a$ the number of floats or sinkers, $\nu$ the flow velocity, and R the flow resistance of net. In the case where the model experiments aim at investigating the influence of weight in water of nettings on their shapes in nets subjected to the water flow of very low velocity, however, the following condition is added; $$\frac{\rho_2-\rho_{w2}}{\rho_1-\rho_{w1}}=\frac{d_1}{d_2}$$ where $\rho$ is the specific gravity of netting twines.
In this paper, passport recognition and face verification methods which can automatically recognize passport codes and discriminate forgery passports to improve efficiency and systematic control of immigration management are proposed. Adjusting the slant is very important for recognition of characters and face verification since slanted passport images can bring various unwanted effects to the recognition of individual codes and faces. Therefore, after smearing the passport image, the longest extracted string of characters is selected. The angle adjustment can be conducted by using the slant of the straight and horizontal line that connects the center of thickness between left and right parts of the string. Extracting passport codes is done by Sobel operator, horizontal smearing, and 8-neighborhood contour tracking algorithm. The string of codes can be transformed into binary format by applying repeating binary method to the area of the extracted passport code strings. The string codes are restored by applying CDM mask to the binary string area and individual codes are extracted by 8-neighborhood contour tracking algerian. The proposed RBF network is applied to the middle layer of RBF network by using the fuzzy logic connection operator and proposing the enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm that dynamically controls the vigilance parameter. The face is authenticated by measuring the similarity between the feature vector of the facial image from the passport and feature vector of the facial image from the database that is constructed with PCA algorithm. After several tests using a forged passport and the passport with slanted images, the proposed method was proven to be effective in recognizing passport codes and verifying facial images.

This study is a reinterpretation of characteristics of public space in contemporary cities with a view to liminal space. The conditions of pubic space now cannot be captured through the existing discourses of publicness, and public space. The basic premise of the study is that the idea of liminal space or liminality is useful to grasp the fluid and hybrid attribute of public space in contemporary cities. Liminal space, originally from anthropological studies, is the intermingled stage between two realms and the sustained period of the ritual. The idea has been widely used for various cultural phenomenon and spatial experiences. A literature review on public space and liminal space was carried out. Cases pertaining to public space with a view to liminal space were examined and discussed in detail. Through the careful reading of several public spaces with an angle toward liminal space, the new perspective toward public space will be drawn out. First, we need to emphasize the fluid spectrum of public space rather than the serial stage such as the public, the semi-public, the semi-private, and the private. Second, the idea will contribute to understanding the flexible state depending upon time. What we can learn from case studies is the volatile characteristics in public space as a common phenomenon support its vitality. This interpretation will contribute to the perception of a new horizon of public space. The nature of public space is unpredictable and free. In reality, the spectrum of public space will expand and fluctuate. Ironically, public space can be vitalized through enhancing and activating the private space. The intimate and complicated interface between the two realms is a key issue. The boundary of public space might be redefined to embrace the flexible the fragile nature of changing public space. These research implications will guide the thoughtful design and management of pubic space.
The stimulus of accommodation A, the stimulus of convergence C and the prism diopter ${\Delta}$ are reviewed and redefined more obviously. How the A and C are managed in the practice are reviewed and summarized. As a result, the common practical process of the binocular vision findings is most suitable in the case of the $l_c=26.67mm$, where the near distance is measured from the test lens to the near target and its value is 40 cm and the average of the P.D equal to 64 mm. The $l_c$ is the distance between the test lens and the center of rotation. Those values were used at calculating the various values in this paper. The error of the stimulus of accommodation values which are evaluated by the practically used formula (5) are calculated. Where the distance between lens and the principle point of eye is 15.07 mm ($=l_H$). The incremental stimulus of convergence values P' caused by the addition prism $P_m$ are evaluated by the recursion computation method. The P' are varied with the $P_m$, the distance $p_c$ between the prism and the center of rotation, the initial convergence value (or inverse target distance) $C_o$ and the refractive index n of the prism material. The recursion computation method and the other formulas are described in detail. In this paper n=1.7 is used. The two factors by which the P' is increased are exist. The one which is major is the property by which the values of convergence whose unit is ${\Delta}$ are not added in the generally way. The other is the that the actual power of the prism is varied with the angle of incidence light. And the P' is decreased remarkably by an increase in the $p_c$ and $C_o$. The $P^{\prime}/P_m$ are calculated and graphed which are varied with the $p_c$ and $C_o$, where the $P_m=20{\Delta}$, P.D=64 mm and n=1.7. The index n dependence of the $P^{\prime}/P_m$ is negligible (refer to fig. 6). The $p_c$ are evaluated at which the P' equal to the $P_m$ for various $P_m$ (refer to table 1). The actual values of the stimulus of convergence and accommodation which are manipulated simply in the practice are calculated. Two graphical forms are suggested. The one is like as the commonly used one. But the stimulus of convergence and of accommodation values in the practice are positioned at the exact positions when the graphic is made (refer to fig. 9). The other is the form that the incremental stimulus of convergence values caused by the addition prisms are represented at actual positions (refer to fig. 11).
This study reviewed an application of water quality estimation using an Airborne Hyperspectral Imagery (A-HSI) and tested a part of Han River water quality (especially suspended solid) estimation with available in-situ data. The estimation of water quality was processed two methods. One is using observation data as downwelling radiance to water surface and as scattering and reflectance into water body. Other is linear regression analysis with water quality in-situ measurement and upwelling data as at-sensor radiance (or reflectance). Both methods drive meaningful results of RS estimation. However it has more effects on the auxiliary dataset as water quality in-situ measurement and water body scattering measurement. The test processed a part of Han River located Paldang-dam downstream. We applied linear regression analysis with AISA eagle hyperspectral sensor data and water quality measurement in-situ data. The result of linear regression for a meaningful band combination shows $-24.847+0.013L_{560}$ as 560 nm in radiance (L) with 0.985 R-square. To comparison with Multispectral Imagery (MSI) case, we make simulated Landsat TM by spectral resampling. The regression using MSI shows -55.932 + 33.881 (TM1/TM3) as radiance with 0.968 R-square. Suspended Solid (SS) concentration was about 3.75 mg/l at in-situ data and estimated SS concentration by A-HIS was about 3.65 mg/l, and about 5.85mg/l with MSI with same location. It shows overestimation trends case of estimating using MSI. In order to upgrade value for practical use and to estimate more precisely, it needs that minimizing sun glint effect into whole image, constructing elaborate flight plan considering solar altitude angle, and making good pre-processing and calibration system. We found some limitations and restrictions such as precise atmospheric correction, sample count of water quality measurement, retrieve spectral bands into A-HSI, adequate linear regression model selection, and quantitative calibration/validation method through the literature review and test adopted general methods.

Soybean has widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. Microwave remote sensing has a great potential over the conventional remote sensing with the visible and infrared spectra due to its all-weather day-and-night imaging capabilities. In this investigation, a ground-based polarimetric scatterometer operating at multiple frequencies was used to continuously monitor the crop conditions of a soybean field. Polarimetric backscatter data at L, C, and X-bands were acquired every 10 minutes on the microwave observations at various soybean stages. The polarimetric scatterometer consists of a vector network analyzer, a microwave switch, radio frequency cables, power unit and a personal computer. The polarimetric scatterometer components were installed inside an air-conditioned shelter to maintain constant temperature and humidity during the data acquisition period. The backscattering coefficients were calculated from the measured data at incidence angle $40^{\circ}$ and full polarization (HH, VV, HV, VH) by applying the radar equation. The soybean growth data such as leaf area index (LAI), plant height, fresh and dry weight, vegetation water content and pod weight were measured periodically throughout the growth season. We measured the temporal variations of backscattering coefficients of the soybean crop at L, C, and X-bands during a soybean growth period. In the three bands, VV-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than HH-polarized backscattering coefficients until mid-June, and thereafter HH-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than VV-, HV-polarized back scattering coefficients. However, the cross-over stage (HH > VV) was different for each frequency: DOY 200 for L-band and DOY 210 for both C and X-bands. The temporal trend of the backscattering coefficients for all bands agreed with the soybean growth data such as LAI, dry weight and plant height; i.e., increased until about DOY 271 and decreased afterward. We plotted the relationship between the backscattering coefficients with three bands and soybean growth parameters. The growth parameters were highly correlated with HH-polarization at L-band (over r=0.92).

The lineament is a linear or curved terrain element to discriminate adjacent geological structures in each other. It has been widely used for analysis of geology, mineral exploration, natural disasters, and earthquake, etc. In the past, the lineament has been extracted using cartographic map or field survey. However, it is possible to extract more efficiently the lineament for a very wide area thanks to development of remote sensing technique. Remotely sensed observation by aircraft, satellite, or digital elevation model (DEM) has been used for visual recognition for manual lineament extraction. Automatic approaches using computer science have been proposed to extract lineament more objectively. In this study, we evaluate the characteristics of lineament which is automatically extracted with respect to difference of spatial resolution of DEM. We utilized two types of DEM: one is Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) with spatial resolution of about 90 m (3 arc sec), and the other is the latest world DEM of TerraSAR-X add-on for Global DEM with 12 m spatial resolution. In addition, a global DEM was resampled to produce a DEM with a spatial resolution of 30 m (1 arc sec). The shaded relief map was constructed considering various sun elevation and solar azimuth angle. In order to extract lineament automatically, we used the LINE module in PCI Geomatica software. We found that predominant direction of the extracted lineament is about $N15-25^{\circ}E$ (NNE), regardless of spatial resolution of DEM. However, more fine and detailed lineament were extracted using higher spatial resolution of DEM. The result shows that the lineament density is proportional to the spatial resolution of DEM. Thus, the DEM with appropriate spatial resolution should be selected according to the purpose of the study.
