  • In the age of smartphones, users accomplish their daily tasks using their smartphones due to the significant growth in smartphone technology. Due to these tremendous expansions, attackers are highly motivated to penetrate numerous mobile marketplaces with their developed malicious apps. Android has the biggest proportion of the overall market share when compared to other platforms including Windows, iOS, and Blackberry. This research will discuss the Android security features, vulnerabilities and threats, in addition to some existing protection mechanisms.

  • This paper examines the diffusion of smartphones with a special emphasis on the diffusive interactions between Apple iOS and Google Android in a global context. Since the two mobile platforms were first introduced in the market, the use of smartphones has skyrocketed, suggesting that the dramatic diffusion of smartphones may be explained in part by the growth and competition of these two platforms. To study this, an extended Bass model is applied to a data set of quarterly smartphone sales between 2008 and 2013 for 15 countries. Our findings suggest that the innovation effect was more salient for iOS than for Android in developed countries, whereas the imitation effect was more striking for Android than for iOS in developing countries. Furthermore, our results from the co-diffusion model suggest that the diffusion of Android negatively affected by the diffusion of iOS, but not vice versa.

  • Android manufacturers collect diagnostic data to improve the quality of service to users around the world. The content and frequency of diagnostic data collected by these Android manufacturers is unknown. We analyze the diagnostic data collection behavior of Samsung smartphones, which has the largest share of the Android market among smartphone manufacturers, to explain which diagnostic data is communicated to the server via network packets, how the system app that collects the diagnostic data works, and whether the diagnostic data violates user privacy.

  • Application response time is critical to end-user response time in Android smartphones. Due to the plentiful resources of recent smartphones, storage I/O response time becomes a major key factor in application response time. However, existing storage I/O trace tools for Android and Linux give limited information only for a specific I/O layer which makes it difficult to combine I/O information from different I/O layers, because not helpful for application developer and researchers. In this paper, we propose a novel storage I/O trace tool for Android, called AIOPro (Android I/O profiler). It traces storage I/O from application - Android platform - system call - virtual file system - native file system - page cache - block layer - SCSI layer and device driver. It then combines the storage I/O information from I/O layers by linking them with file information and physical address. Our evaluations of real smartphone usage scenarios and benchmarks show that AIOPro can track storage I/O information from all I/O layers without any data loss under 0.1% system overheads.

  • Approximately 70% of smartphone users around the world use Android operating system-based smartphones, and malicious apps targeting these Android platforms are constantly increasing. Google has provided "Google Play Protect" to respond to the increasing number of Android targeted malware, preventing malicious apps from being installed on smartphones, but many malicious apps are still normal. It threatens the smartphones of ordinary users registered in the Google Play store by disguising themselves as apps. However, most people rely on antivirus programs to detect malicious apps because the average user needs a great deal of expertise to check for malicious apps. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a method to classify unnecessary malicious permissions of apps by using only the categories and permissions that can be easily confirmed by the app, and to easily detect malicious apps through the classified permissions. The proposed method is compared and analyzed from the viewpoint of undiscovered rate and false positives with the "commercial malicious application detection program", and the performance level is presented.

  • The discussion in this paper aims to introduce an approach to detect drowsiness with Android based smartphones using the OpenCV platform tools. OpenCV for Android actually provides powerful tools for real-time body's parts tracking. We discuss here about the maximization of the accuracy in real-time eye tracking. Then we try to develop an approach for detecting eye blink by analyzing the structure and color variations of human eyes. Finally, we introduce a time variable to capture drowsiness.

  • Smartphones are fast growing in the IT market and are the most influential devices in our daily life. Smartphones are being studied for their use in body sensor networks with excellent processing power and wireless communication technology. In this paper, we propose a coordinator design that provides data collection, classification, and display using based on Android-smartphone in multiple sensor nodes. The coordinator collects data of sensor nodes that measure biological patterns using wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth and NFC. The coordinator constructs a network using a multiple-level scheduling algorithm for efficient data collection at multiple sensor nodes. Also, to support different protocols between heterogeneous sensors, a data sheet recording wireless communication protocol information is used. The designed coordinator used Arduino to test the performance of multiple sensor node environments.

  • Smartphone malware has increased because Smartphone users has increased and smartphones are widely used in everyday life. Since 2012, Android has been the most mobile operating system. Owing to the open nature of Android, countless malware are in Android markets that seriously threaten Android security. Most of Android malware detection program does not detect malware to which bypass techniques apply and also does not detect unknown malware. In this paper, we propose lightweight method for detection of Android malware using static analysis and deep learning techniques. For experiments we crawl 7,000 apps from the Google Play Store and collect 6,120 malwares. The result show that proposed method can achieve 98.05% detection accuracy. Also, proposed method can detect about unknown malware families with good performance. On smartphones, the method requires 10 seconds for an analysis on average.

  • Personal information leakage is one of the great recent issues, which can be caused by hacking or censorship when a messenger program is used between user groups in Android-based smartphones, In order to solve these problems, companies generally apply complex security procedures inside the messenger, but which degrade the efficiency of work. This paper proposes a method which can improve work efficiency and strengthen security by allowing only the clients that can access a particular AP, and implementing a closed messenger group. The proposed method is validated by implementing on the Android-based smartphones.
