Investigation of Strain Measurements using Digital Image Correlation with a Finite Element Method

  • This article proposes a digital image correlation (DIC) strain measurement method based on a finite element (FE) algorithm. A two-step digital image correlation is presented. In the first step, the gradient-based subpixels technique is used to search the displacements of a region of interest of the specimen, and then the strain fields are obtained by utilizing the finite element method in the second step. Both simulation and experiment processing, including tensile strain deformation, show that the proposed method can achieve nearly the same accuracy as the cubic spline interpolation method in most cases and higher accuracy in some cases, such as the simulations of uniaxial tension with and without noise. The results show that it also has a good noise-robustness. Finally, this method is used in the uniaxial tensile testing for Dahurian Larch wood specimens with or without a hole, and the obtained strain values are close to the results which were obtained from the strain gauge and the cubic spline interpolation method.

광섬유 매립 CFRP 쉬트로 보강한 RC 보의 변형률 응답 분석 (Strain Response Analysis of RC Beams Strengthened with Optical Fiber-embedded CFRP Sheet)

  • 본 논문은 구조물 보강을 위해 부착된 CFRP 쉬트의 박락 위치를 탐색하기 위해 BOTDR 센서를 적용한 실험적 연구 결과를 보고한다. CFRP 쉬트를 부분적으로 비부착한 실험체가 본 연구를 위해 제작되었으며, 그 위에 BOTDR 센서를 나일론 망을 이용하여 부착되었다. 보강된 RC 보의 휨실험 동안 CFRP 쉬트의 변형률은 BOTDR 센서와 전기저항식 게이지를 통해 계측되었다. 연구결과로부터 BOTDR 센서를 통해서 획득된 변형률 분포는 CFRP 보강재의 탈락 구간을 시각화하고, 탐지하는데 효과적으로 이용될 수 있음이 확인되었다. 또한 BOTDR 센서를 통해 계측된 변형률은 국부적인 변형률이 얻어지는 전기저항식 게이지보다 구조물 전체의 거동을 분석하는데 효과적임이 확인되었다. 100 mm 이하의 계측장을 갖는 BOTDR 센서의 개발은 CFRP 쉬트의 국부적인 탈락의 위치의 정확한 탐지를 가능하게 할 것으로 판단된다.

Bourdon관을 이용한 전기식 압력변환기의 특성 (Characteristics of Electrical Type Pressure Transducer Which uses Bourdon Tube)

  • The Bourdon tube pressure gauge is the most widely used primary detector for pressure in various kinds of fields recently. However in many cases lots of difficulties are encountered in telemetering, measuring the continuously changing pressure and recording as time goes by, etc. In this paper a Bourdon tube of flat-oval section is considered. On the basis of Wolf's theory, the very sensitive places are selected on the tube and full bridge arrangement is used. Then all of the characteristics are examined in order to use the pressure transducer practically into which the pressure gauge is converted. From the results, the error in meter reading is about $\pm$3% F.S., on the other hand, when measured with strain gauge, the error is within $\pm$1% F.S.. Also external acceleration on Bourdon tube hardly affect practical use.

Optimal layout of long-gauge sensors for deformation distribution identification

  • Structural deflection can be identified from measured strains from long gague sensors, but the sensor layout scheme greatly influences on the accuracy of identified resutls. To determine the optimal sensor layout scheme for accurate deflection identification of the tied arch bridge, the method of optimal layout of long-gauge fiber optic sensors is studied, in which the characteristic curve is first developed by using the bending macro-strain curve under multiple target load conditions, then optimal sensor layout scheme with different number of sensors are determined. A tied arch bridge is studied as an example to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for static and dynamic deflection identification.

  • To measure the effect of the stress-strain dispersion across the installed waterproofing layer on the concrete surface, a strain gauge was attached to the gap between the waterproofing layer and the concrete structure at specified points of upper, center and bottom of the load-displacement simulation specimen, and the peak stress-strain at the displacement interface were measured and compared with stress-strain at other areas to analyze each material types' stress-strain dispersion ratio properties. Based on the results of the testing, it was shown that materials with high load-displacement resistance performance accordingly had high stress-strain dispersion ratio results, and the materials from highest performance to lowest performance were; CAS, SAS, PUC and CSC.

변형률 및 지반강성을 고려한 평판재하시험과 흙강성측정기의 탄성계수 비교 (Comparison of Elastic Modulus Evaluated by Plate Load Test and Soil Stiffness Gauge Considering Strain and Ground Stiffness)

  • 본 연구에서는 기초 지지층의 응력-침하특성을 평가하기 위해 변형률 범위가 다른 두 가지 강성측정 시험법으로 산정한 탄성계수를 비교하였다. 미소변형률 범위의 흙강성측정기(SSG)와 중변형률 범위의 평판재하시험(PLT)이 탄성계수 산정에 이용되었다. 변형률 범위가 다른 시험방법으로 구한 탄성계수를 기초설계 및 시공실무에 적용하기 위해서는 각각의 값에 대한 상관관계가 사전에 파악되어야 한다. 국내의 대표적인 지지층인 풍화토 및 풍화암에서 두 가지 방법에 의한 탄성계수를 비교·분석한 결과에 따르면, 지반의 종류 및 응력조건에 따라 탄성계수가 상이하게 평가되는 것으로 나타났다. 다양한 조건의 지반에 대해 평판재하시험으로 산정한 정적 탄성계수는 흙강성측정기로 측정한 동적 탄성계수와 비교할 때, 시험의 변형률 수준 차이로 인해 56% 감소된 결과를 나타냈다. 따라서, 평판재하 시험을 대체하여 흙강성측정기를 효과적으로 사용하기 위해서는 지반강성에 따른 응력분포, 응력수준, 동적효과에 대한 영향을 보정하여 측정값을 적용할 필요가 있다.

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) using the Model 95 Ar laserm, a video system and an image processor was applied to the in-plane displacement measurements. Unlike traditional strain gauges or moire method, ESPI method requires no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured in-plane displacement with no contact and real time. In this experiment wpecimen was loaded in parallel with a loadcell. The specimen was the cold rolled sdteel sheet of 2mm thickness, which was attached strain gauges. The study provides an example of how ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen.   • The present study describes the experimental method to measure the strain of tire. In this study. the strain distributions of tire with air pressure and vertical load were measured at the bead filler edge region and on the carcass cord using strain gauges and the results were compared with indoor bead durability test results. The strain amplitude of carcass cord near the rim check line of tire is one of the main factors that affects bead durability characteristic.

Highly Stretchable and Sensitive Strain Sensors Fabricated by Coating Nylon Textile with Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes

  • Stretchable strain sensors are becoming essential in diverse future applications, such as human motion detection, soft robotics, and various biomedical devices. One of the well-known approaches for fabricating stretchable strain sensors is to embed conductive nanomaterials such as metal nanowires/nanoparticles, graphene, conducting polymer and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) within an elastomeric substrate. Among various conducting nanomaterials, CNTs have been considered as important and promising candidate materials for stretchable strain sensors owing to their high electrical conductivity and excellent mechanical properties. In the past decades, CNT-based strain sensors with high stretchability or sensitivity have been developed. However, CNT-based strain sensors which show both high stretchability and sensitivity have not been reported. Herein, highly stretchable and sensitive strain sensors were fabricated by integrating single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and nylon textiles via vacuum-assisted spray-layer-by-layer process. Our strain sensors had high sensitivity with 100 % tensile strain (gauge factor ~ 100). Cyclic tests confirmed that our strain sensors showed very robust and reliable characteristic. Moreover, our SWNTs-based strain sensors were easily and successfully integrated on human finger and knee to detect bending and walking motion. Our approach presented here might be route to preparing highly stretchable and sensitive strain sensors with providing new opportunity to realize practical wearable devices.

ESPI법에 의한 스폿 용접부의 비파괴적 응력측정 기술 (Technology of Non-destructive Stress Measurement in Spot Welded Joint using ESPI Method)

  • 스폿용접은 겹침판을 끼우고 가압상태의 전극 사이에 단시간의 대전류를 흘려, 전류가 집중하는 전극 직하의 모재 저항발열과 전극 및 모재의 열전도를 이용해서 판과 판의 접촉부에 안정한 용융부를 형성하는 압접법이다. 스폿용접으로 대표되는 저항용접법의 특징은 작업속도가 빠르고. 대량 생산적인 성격이 강하다는 점이다. 그러나, 용접부의 점검이 중요함에도 불구하고 용접부의 직접 감시가 곤란하여 적절한 검사 방법이 확립되지 않은 결점이 있다. 최근 제조공정 중에 실시간으로 스폿 용접부를 비파괴적인 방법을 이용하여 응력 및 변형상태를 체크하고. 결합을 검출할 수 있는 방법이 강력히 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 스폿 용접부페 광학적으로 레이저 빔을 조사하여 렌즈에 의해 결상되면 결상면상에 작은 입자모양의 반점이 생긴다. 이 반점을 스페클이라 하며 이 스페클에 의해 만들어진 불규칙한 반점모양을 스페클 패턴이라 한다. 이러한 현상은 레이저 빔이 가간섭의 성질을 지니고 있으므로 조사영역에서는 랜덤하지만 시간적으로 정상적인 위상관계에 있는 다수의 광파가 간섭함으로서 발생하는데 이와 같은 줄무늬 간격을 PC 프로그램으로 계산하여 응력을 측정한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 레이저를 이용한 전자처리식 스페클 패턴 간섭법(ESPI)으로 스폿 용접부의 응력 및 변형률을 측정하여 스트레인 게이지법과 비교 고찰한 결과, ESPI법이 유용함을 알 수 있었으며. 이 방법을 생산 공정에 적용함으로서 생산성 및 품질 향상을 기할 수 있다고 판단된다.
