  • The objective of this study was to investigate delayed oxygen evolution and localized corrosion resistance of titanium alloys by performing potentiodynamic polarization, potentiostatic polarization, and Mott-Schottky measurements. Delayed oxygen evolution was compared among titanium alloys, 316 stainless steel, and platinum. Difference in delayed oxygen evolution between titanium alloys and other metals was attributed to specific surface characteristic of each metal. Delayed oxygen evolution of titanium alloys resulted from the predominant process of ionic conduction over electronic conduction. The effect of oxygen evolution on localized corrosion of titanium alloys was investigated using electrochemical critical localized corrosion temperature (E-CLCT) technique. Mott-Schottky measurement was performed to clarify the difference in film properties between titanium alloys and stainless steels. Titanium alloys were found to have much lower donor density than stainless steels by 1/28. These results indicate that delayed oxygen evolution has little influence on the concreteness of passive film and the resistance to localized corrosion of titanium alloys.

  • The theories of cultural evolution hold subtly or clearly different stances about definition of culture, pattern of cultural evolution, biases that affect cultural evolution, and relationship between culture and organism. However, the cultural evolution theories have a common problem to solve: As the evolutionary theory of life tries to explain the early steps and the origin of life, the cultural evolution theories also must explain the early steps of the cultural evolution and the role of the human capability that makes cultural evolution possible. Therefore, explanations of the human's unique traits including the cultural ability are related to determine which one is the most plausible among many cultural evolution theories. Theories that tried to explain human uniqueness commonly depict the coevolution of gene (organism) and culture. We will explicitly call the niche construction theory and the dual inheritance theory the 'gene-culture co-evolutionary theory'. In these theories, the most important concept is the 'concept of positive feedback'. In this paper, we distinguish between core positive feedback and marginal positive feedback, according to whether the trait that the concept of positive feedback explains is the trait of human uniqueness. Both types of positive feedback effectively explain the generality of human uniqueness and the diversity of human traits driven by cultural groups. However, this positive feedback requires an end, in contrast to negative feedback which can be continued in order to maintain homeostasis. We argue that the co-evolutionary process in the gene-culture co-evolutionary theories include only the positive feedback, not covering the cultural evolution after the positive feedback. This thesis strives to define the coevolution concept more comprehensively by suggesting the potential relationships between gene and culture after the positive feedback.

  • The luminosity evolution of Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) and dust extinction play major roles in the systematic uncertainties in the SN cosmology. In order to overcome these obstacles, here we propose to use GMT-GMACS to take spectra for early-type host-galaxies of SNe Ia in the redshift range between 0.2 and 1.0. This high-redshift sample will be taken from Dark Energy Survey (DES), which expects more than 200 early-type hosts at this redshift range. They will be compared with nearby early-type hosts, for which we are now obtaining low-resolution spectra. We will select host-galaxies of same population age range for both nearby and high-redshift samples to reduce the possible evolution effect. Since we are dealing with early-type galaxies, our test is also less affected by dust extinction. We expect that our evolution-free and dust-free dark energy test will provide more robust results on the nature of dark energy.

  • In the ozone evolution using $PbO_2$, which was electrodeposited on Ti plate at various conditions in electrolyte, the effects of lead dioxide structure on the current efficiency and surface structure changes of lead dioxide were investigated. Also the effects of oxygen transfer reaction on the ozone evolution were investigated by means of a $PbO_2$ electrodeposited on the platinum rotating disk electrode. In order to develope an electrode for ozone evolution, durability of lead dioxide and optimum current density were investigated. At the electrodeposited lead dioxide with the larger grain size and higher crystallinity, the efficiency for ozone evolution was higher. Optimum current density to electrodeposite lead dioxide with large grain size and high crystalinity was $50mA/cm^2$. Lead dioxide deposited in the presence of glycerin showed the best advantage of ozone evolution. Also lead dioxide electrodeposited at less than $10mA/cm^2$ or at more than $100mA/cm^2$ has poor performance of ozone evolution and poor adhesive strength to substrate. In the beginning of ozone evolution, surface structure of lead dioxide was changed and this change resulted in good effects on ozone evolution. Lead dioxide doped with other elements was favorable not to ozone evolution but to oxygen evolution, so it is speculated that ozone evolution has not intermediate stage of oxygen evolution and occurs competitively with oxygen evolution. When ozone was evolved at $0.7{\sim}0.8A/cm^2$, the current efficiency was highest.

  • Software architecture allows us to make many decisions about a software system and analyze it even before it exists in order to make systematic and planned development possible. Similarly, architecture-based software evolution planningmakes planned evolution possible by allowing us to make many decisions about evolution of a software system and analyze its evolution at the level of architecture design before software evolution is realized. In this paper, we develop a framework for architecture-based software evolution planning for the class of deterministic evolution plans by defining and relating various essential concepts and developing its valuationmechanism so that a plan with the greatest value among candidate plans can be selected as an optimal plan. A case study is conducted for explicating the framework and exemplifying its usage.

  • The correlation between mass of Type Ia Supernova (SN Ia) host galaxies and Hubble residual is now well-established. The origin of this relation, however, is yet to be understood. We have used low-resolution spectra of early-type hosts from YONSEI (YOnsei Nearby Supernovae Evolution Investigation) project to measure central velocity dispersion and Lick/IDS absorption indices. By using the Evolutionary Population Synthesis (EPS) models, luminosity-weighted mean age and metallicity of host galaxies were determined from $H{\beta}$ and absorption lines. Here we will discuss the correlation between the velocity dispersion, which indicates the mass of galaxies, and mean age of stellar population in our sample of early-type host galaxies.

  • Understanding how the topic evolves is an important and challenging task. A topic usually consists of multiple related events, and the accurate identification of event evolution relationship plays an important role in topic evolution analysis. Existing research has used the traditional vector space model to represent the event, which cannot be used to accurately compute the semantic similarity between events. This has led to poor performance in identifying event evolution relationship. This paper suggests constructing a semantic aspect-based vector space model to represent the event: First, use hierarchical Dirichlet process to mine the semantic aspects. Then, construct a semantic aspect-based vector space model according to these aspects. Finally, represent each event as a point and measure the semantic relatedness between events in the space. According to our evaluation experiments, the performance of our proposed technique is promising and significantly outperforms the baseline methods.

  • Recently, analysis of bargaining game using evolutionary computation is essential issues in field of game theory. In this paper, we observe a bargaining game using co-evolution between two heterogenous artificial agents. In oder to model two artificial agents, we use a particle swarm optimization and a differential evolution. We investigate algorithm parameters for the best performance and observe that which strategy is better in the bargaining game under the co-evolution between two heterogenous artificial agents. Experimental simulation results show that particle swarm optimization outperforms differential evolution in the bargaining game.

  • The integral solution for a deterministic evolution equation was introduced by Benilan. Similarly, in this paper, we define the integral solution for a stochastic evolution equation with a state-dependent diffusion term and prove that there exists a unique integral solution of the stochastic evolution euation under some conditions for the coefficients. Moreover we prove that this solution is a unique strong solution.
