  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate awareness of physical therapists about cardiopulmonary physical therapy and patterns of its use, and to offer materials about how to apply cardiopulmonary physical therapy. Methods: For this study, structured questionnaires were distributed to 158 physical therapists in general hospitals, hospitals, Chinese medicine hospitals and clinics in Cheonnam area who were randomly selected as research subjects. After the questionnaires were handed out to them for 180 days from July to December 2013, they were collected. Results: The results showed that only 14 respondents(25%) knew about the therapeutic intervention of cardiopulmonary physical therapy, while respectively, 57.1% and 17.9% of them responded they didn't know about it well, and they didn't know about it, at all. As a result, physical therapists' awareness about cardiopulmonary physical therapy was at an extremely low level, overall. Moreover, 60.7%, 7.1%, 8.9% and 23.3% of the subjects answered that they obtained knowledge about cardiopulmonary physical therapy from school curriculum, from association seminars, from related books and from other sources, respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, these results demonstrate that the application or use of cardiopulmonary physical therapy as a physical therapy intervention is quite inadequate, although the necessity for cardiopulmonary physical therapy of physical therapists is being highlighted. Therefore, constant interests and efforts of physical therapists and clinicians would be required for effective use of cardiopulmonary physical therapy, clinical verification and active researches on it.

  • Purpose: The research was to investigate the effect of line dance programs on oxygen saturation level and happiness of elderlies. Methods: Researchers had conducted a series of test to measure peripheral blood vessel oxygen saturation level, pulse and happiness level of 47 elderlies from the D district of G city. Collected data were analyzed with ${\chi}^2$-test and independent t-test, equipped with SPSS WIN 17.0. Results: As a result of serial tests, Pre-test and Post-test of line dance performance showed that oxygen saturation of the Experimental group had significant increase following the program and happiness of the Experimental group also had significant increase following the program. Conclusion: In conclusion, with many advantages such as its easiness to access and emulate as well as its ubiquitousness as an aerobic exercise, line dance cannot only be very beneficial to cardiovascular function and relation of elderlies, but also to emotional and psychological effect, considered as a great breakthrough to improve comprehensive well-being in both physical and mental aspects.

  • Purpose. The purpose of the study was to assess the level of nurses' genetic knowledge and the perception of nurses' role in genetics. The ultimate goal of this paper is to educate practicing nurses so that they can counsel individuals and families with genetic problems, on the basis of better understanding of genetic diseases. Methods. A total of 969 clinical nurses in 11 general hospitals completed a self-administered questionnaire including basic genetic knowledge and perception of their role. The instruments were made by the author with the help of some experts on genetics. T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation were used to analyze the data. Results. The results of this study indicated that nurses revealed a vast knowledge deficit in genetics and the need for genetic content in nursing curriculum. The results also showed that nurses' sources of information about genetics largely came from the mass media. The nurses also expressed great interest in educating and counseling patients. Overall, the survey found a positive correlation between the nurses' level of knowledge and their degree of interest in genetics. Conclusion. In conclusion, education and training of clinical nurses in genetics is critical in integrating genetics with nursing science. Therefore, the development of educational programs for nursing knowledge and counseling as well as basic curriculums in genetic nursing at universities are essential in the near future.

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate consumers' demand of and perspective on drug information domestically available and uncover hurdles that they faced while utilizing information. Methods: We conducted a survey of 101 consumers, face-to-face after obtaining informed consent. Chi-squared, or Fisher's exact tests, and multivariate logistic models were used to investigate the association between participants' perceptions and characteristics. Results: As results, participants showed the highest demand for "Adverse effects >90%"; "Drug interactions/Dosage/Drug-food interactions/Indication >80%", and utilized package inserts (52%), doctors (41%) and pharmacists (36%) most often as information sources. Generally, the most common difficulty consumers suffered with was that "it is hard to understand (51%)". With public sources of drug information, sixty one percent of participants were "unaware of the provision of information", resulting in strikingly low usage rates (5~11%). Subgroup analyses indicated that the older (${\geq}50$ years) and the disadvantaged might have been placed in the blind spot of information mostly developed online (p<0.05).Conclusion: In conclusion, public sources of drug information that have been developed online might fail to meet consumers' demand. Greater efforts should be made to balance the development of the information sources between online and offline, and to increase accessibility of the established information sources.

  • Objective: This case report is to report the effect of Korean traditional treatment for idiopathic ninth, tenth, and twelfth cranial nerve palsy with ipsilateral headache. Methods: The medical history and imaging and laboratory test of a 39-year-old man with cranial palsy were tested to identify the cause of disease. A 0.2-mL dosage of Hwangyeonhaedoktang pharmacopuncture was administered at CV23 and CV17, respectively. Acupuncture was applied at P06, Li05, TE05, and G37 on the right side of the body. Zhuapiandutongbang (左偏頭痛方) was administered at 30 minutes to 1 hour after mealtime three times a day. The symptoms were investigated using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results: The results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and laboratory tests were normal. The medical history showed no trauma, other illnesses, family history of diseases, medications, smoking, drinking and so on. All symptoms disappeared at the 10th day of treatment. Conclusion: Korean traditional treatment such as acupuncture, pharmcopuncture, and herbal medicine for the treatment of ninth, tenth, and twelfth cranial nerve palsy of unknown origin is suggested to be effective even though this conclusion is based on a single.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to: (a) develop a comprehensive communication course combined with a group program for improving communication skills; and (b) examine the effects of the comprehensive communication course on interpersonal communication, relationship change, self-esteem, and depression in nursing students. Method: The experimental group consisted of 82 nursing students, and the control group, 108 nursing students. Both groups each took communication courses from March to June, 2002 and 2003. A group program for improving communication skills was conducted for each 8 subgroups of the experimental group for 90 minutes once a week during the 6 weeks, while the existing communication lecture was conducted for the control group. Both groups were post-tested after the intervention for verifying the difference of variables between the two groups, and the experimental group was also pre-tested for verifying the difference between before and after the treatment. Result & Conclusion: Interpersonal communication score of the post-test in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group and the depression score of the post-test in the experimental group was significantly lower than in the control group. Interpersonal communication, relationship change and self-esteem scores were significantly increased and the depression score was significantly decreased in experimental group after the treatment. In conclusion, the comprehensive communication course that was developed in this study had positive effects on communication skills in nursing students.
