Traction Motor-Inverter Utilized Battery Charger for PHEVs

  • Most eco-friendly cars can adopt the concept of an integrated battery charger (IBC), which uses currently available motor drive systems. The IBC has a lot of strong points such as low cost and minimum space for the high voltage battery charger. On the other hand, it also has some defects caused by its structure. In this paper, the shortcomings of the conventional IBC for PHEVs with interior permanent magnet motors are discussed, and two advanced IBCs with improved performance are presented. Compared with the conventional IBC, the two advanced IBCs have plenty of strengths such as low common noise, high efficiency, simple sensing methods, etc. Then, the digital control algorithm is modified and a power loss calculation is carried out with simulation software. Finally, experimental results are provided to show the performance of the IBC systems.

  • High-speed motors using permanent magnet have various merits; high efficiency, high power density, and small size. While they have merits, we have to solve some problems. First of all, we have to reduce loss, cause of heat, to realize high speed operation. The loss be composed of copper loss, iron loss, and parasitic rotor loss. Iron loss and parasitic rotor loss is proportional to frequency, square of frequency, respectively.

  • This paper presents a solution to control a PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) without sensor. The control method is the presented superposition principle. This method of sensorless theory is very simple to compute estimated angle. The use of this system yields enhanced operations, fewer system components, lower system costs, efficient energy control system designs and increased efficiencies. A practical solution is described and its results are given in this study. The performance of a sensorless architecture allows an intelligent approach to reduce the complete system costs of digital motion control applications using the cheaper electrical sensorless motors. This paper deals with an overview of solutions in the sensorless PMSM control applications, whereby the focus will be the new sensorless controller and its applications.

  • 전기기기에서의 전자기력 계산은 기기의 성능뿐 아니라 기계적 변형, 진동을 예측하는 주요 파라미터이다. 지금까지는 Maxwell stress tensor법이나 자하법, 가상변위법등에 의해 전체 전자기력 또는 토크를 계산하여 왔으나, 이 방법들은 모두 분포 전자기력을 계산할 수 없었다. 본 논문에서는 기기 내부의 체적 전자기력분포를 계산하는 방법을 제시하고, 그 예로써 영구자석형 전동기의 전자기력 분포를 보여준다. 체적력의 계산은 저자에 의해 제안 된 가상공극법에 기반하여 구현할 수 있다.

  • This paper proposes a new dead time compensation method of independent six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (IS-PMSM). The current of the independent phase machines contains odd-numbered harmonics because of the dead time and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. By using the d-q-n three-dimensional vector analysis, these harmonics can be extracted at the n-axis current. Thus, the current distortion can be compensated by controlling the n-axis current of the IS-PMSM to zero. The proposed method is simple and can be easily implemented without additional hardware setup. The validity of the proposed compensation method is verified with simulations and several experiments.

  • This paper describes the design and the analysis of electromagnetic system of Magnetic Switch using 2D parametric finite element method(EM-Pulse). Magnetic Switch is electrical equipment, which is widely used for switching on/off motors in industrial field. The transient state is simulated in order to calculate the response time of Magnetic Switch. The simulation is based upon a step-by-step integration of the electric circuit equations and the core movement. The contactor uses a permanent magnet for maintaining the closed state. The presented solution takes account of non-linear magnetic material property and spring force controlled by core position. The dynamic response of Magnetic Switch predicted by the simulation agrees closely with the required condition.

  • This paper presents the characteristics analysis of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSMs). The development of this program is based on Matlab. In oder to achieve the development of the program, basis algorithm for IPMSMs analysis took advantage of equivalent magnetic circuit analysis technique. The equivalent magnetic circuit analysis for IPMSMs are based on a rotate synchronous d-q reference frame. The mathematical model of the d-q frame voltage equations is used frequently for the analysis of IPMSMs. This program can consider a cross saturation effect and a iron loss and mechanical loss, and provide fast analysis results of IPMSMs characteristics.

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motors are mainly used in the traction of electric vehicle and home application products including air-conditioners and refrigerators. For sensorless control without rotor position sensors, I-F control is applied for initial starting at low speeds, and mode is changed to sensorless control when the rotor speed is sufficiently accelerated for estimating rotor position. When the mode is changed to the sensorless control from the open-loop starting, the initial integral value of the speed controller should be considered by load condition; otherwise, the transition to sensorless control may fail. The sensorless transfer algorithm of PM synchronous motor based on load condition for smooth transition is proposed. The performance of the proposed sensorless transfer algorithm was verified by experiments.

  • The cold staring issue of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) is a chronic problem in the field of PMSM sensorless drives. A traditional starting method, called the I-F method, is widely adopted because of its simple structure. However, when using this method, the pre-defined magnitude and frequency of the starting current should be changed according to the condition of the load and machine inertia. In this paper, a smart and simple algorithm for the cold starting of PMSM is proposed. In the proposed method, an integrated control angle from the estimated electrical rotor speed is used for vector control such as the indirect vector control of the induction machine. Thus, very stable cold starting is performed regardless of the machine load condition or inertia changing.

  • 산업계에 널리 쓰이고 있는 회전자 자속기준 벡터제어(FOC)와 달리 직접토크제어(DTC)는 고정자 자속기준으로 토크와 자속을 직접 제어한다. 토크는 전류센서를 이용하여 검출한 고정자 전류와 고정자 자속을 곱하여 구한다. 고정자 자속은 매우 빠르게 스위칭되는 전압벡터지령을 이용하여 얻게 되므로, 고정자 자속각을 이용한 속도추정에 어려움이 있다. 따라서, 본 논문은 관측기를 이용한 직접토크제어의 속도 센서리스 구현기법을 제안하고, 기존의 속도추정 기법과 제안하는 기법을 시뮬레이션을 통해 비교한다.
