Self-cleaning and photocatalytic $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared by a facile sol-gel method followed by spin coating using peroxo titanic acid as a precursor. The as-prepared thin films were heated at low temperature($110^{\circ}C$) and high temperature ($400^{\circ}C$). Thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), UV-Visible spectroscopy and water contact angle measurement. XRD analysis confirms the low crystallinity of thin films prepared at low temperature, while crystalline anatase phase was found the for high temperature thin film. The photocatalytic activity of thin films was studied by the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye solution. Self-cleaning and photocatalytic performance of both low and high temperature thin films were compared.
The sols prepared by dialyzing solutions, in which the hydrolyzed precipitates of TEOT or directly Ti(OC3H7)4 were resolved, were the nanoparticulate sol with the average particle size less than 7 nm and the anatase crystal phase. In the pH range of 1.5 to 2.9, the particle size of the nanoparticulate TiO2 sols (0.09 mol/ι) increased gradually upto 15 nm~26nm with the increase of pH in the initial aging state but the sols were transparent all the time, and stable without growin any more after 30 days. When the slipcasted porous alumina tubes were coated by the sol-gel dipping method, the minimum particle size and the aging time for forming the coated gel layer at the given pH were optimized. For obtaining the very thin crack-free and reproducible membrane coating, the use of a nanoparticulate TiO2 sol (0.09 mol/ι) aged for about 30 dyas at pH=2.0 was found to be the best.

The synthesis of titanium dioxide nanofibers with 200-300nm diameter was presented. The new inorganic-organic hybrid nanofibers were prepared by sol-gel processing and electrospinning technique using a viscous solution of titanium isopropoxide (TiP)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc). Pure titanium dioxide nanofibers were obtained by high temperature calcination of the inorganic-organic composite fibers. SEM, FT-IR, and WAXD techniques were employed to characterize these nanofibers. The titanium dioxide nanostructured fibers have rougher surface and smaller diameter compare with PVAc/TiP composite nanofibers. The anatase to rutile phase transformation occurred when the calcination temperature was increased from $600^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$.
We investigated the properties of DSSC by $TiO_2$-blocking layer formed at several annealing temperatures. At $300^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ anatase and rutile phase of $TiO_2$ were formed, respectively. The characteristics of DSSC was improved by blocking layer annealed at $600^{\circ}C$.
In this study, we prepared nano-sized $TiO_2$ particles for various process variables by the diffusion flame reactor and we collected $TiO_2$ particles by thermophoresis. It is found that the size of $TiO_2$ particles increases, as the flame temperature or the inlet $TiCl_4$ concentration increase or the total gas flow rate decreases. We investigated the photo-degradation of phenol wish the prepared $TiO_2$ particles. We found the optimum amounts of $TiO_2$ photocatalysts for our experimental apparatus and investigated the photo-degradation efficiencies of phenol, changing the process variables such as size of $TiO_2$ photocatlysts, phase ratio of rutile/anatase, concentration of phenol, input ratio of $O_2$. Degradation efficiencies of phenol were almost 95% in 15 minutes for the standard conditions of our experiments.

Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) nanoparticles were prepared by the oxidation of titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) in a diffusion flame reactor. The average diameter of particles was 15 to 30 nm and mass fraction of anatase ranged from $40\;to\;80\%$. Effects of particle size and phase composition of those $TiO_2$ nanoparticles on photocatalytic properties such as decomposition of methylene blue and bacteria gas were investigated. The degree of decomposition of methylene blue by the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles under the illumination of the black light was directly proportional to the anantase mass fraction, but inversely to the particle size. The decomposition of bacteria by the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles under the illumination of the fluorescent light showed the same trend as in the case of the methylene blue.
Vertically-aligned $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes have attracted considerable attention for applications in solar cells, catalysts, and sensors, because of their ideal structure for electron transport and electrolyte diffusion. Here, we prepare vertically-aligned $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes using a two-step anodization process. The prepared $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes exhibit uniform pore structures with an inner diameter of ~80-90 nm and wall thickness of ~20-25 nm. In addition, they exhibit an anatase crystal phase after a high-temperature annealing. The annealed $TiO_2$ nanotube electrodes are applied in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as photoanodes. The fabricated DSSC exhibits conversion efficiencies of 3.46 and 2.15% with liquid- and gel-type electrolytes, respectively.
During studies of the ripening reaction of titanium oxalate, a new crystalline phase has been found. The crystal system was determined to be orthormbic with space group $C222_1$. The unit cell parameters were refined to a=10.503(2)$\AA$ b=15.509(3)$\AA$ c=9.7000(1)$\AA$. The chemical formula of the crystal is Ti$_{2}$O$_{2}$(C$_{2}$O$_{4}$)(OH)$_{2}$. H$_{2}$O. When heated to temperatures between 31$0^{\circ}C$ and 38$0^{\circ}C$, the material became amorphous. Heated above 41$0^{\circ}C$ converted it into anatase-type titanium dioxide.
The Rutile - type brown pigments doped with chromium were synthesized. Samples of $Ti_{1-x}Cr_xO_2$ ($0.02{\leq}X{\leq}0.08$) were synthesized by the solid state method. Solid solution limit of Cr contents to the rutile structure and its coloration were studied. Optimum composition was investigated accordingly. The characteristics of synthesized pigments were analyzed by XRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy and UV. As a result, single phase of Rutile was observed from $1000^{\circ}C$ by XRD. The maximum limit of solid solution was 0.06 mole $Cr_2O_3$. The glazed sample showed brown color, and the value of CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ was $L^*$ 33.27, $a^*$ 10.64, $b^*$ 20.84.
The effects of the post-deposition annealing on the structural optical properties of sputtered $TiO_2$ thin films were studied; annealing was carried out in air up to $1000^{\circ}C$ for different duration. The results of the X-ray diffraction and the raman spectroscopy showed the annealing-condition dependent structural transformation of $TiO_2$ films from the as-deposited amorphous phase to the anatase and rutil phases. The spectroscopic elliposometry was used to investigate the deposition-condition dependence of the as-deposted films optical constants and also the evolution of the optical constants correlated with the annealing-induced structural transformation.
