  • The application of flexo printed ONP and OCC leads to brightness decrease of deinked stock in ONP recycling system. The largest problems are due to accumulation of flexo ink & introduction of brown fibers. All these are emphasized by variations in the amount of flexo printed ONP and OCC in recovered ONP stock. Most of the brightness problems caused by flexo ink can be helped and solved by applying a proper polyelectrolytes as coagulation agent and flocculation agent. This requires exact evaluation of sedimentation or dissolved air flotation potentials of flexo ink and polyelectrolytes. Effect of bleaching chemical (H2O2) addition level on the increase of brightness of OCC included stock has been investigated by lab scale test.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of selected sediment reduction methods to reduce sediment discharges from drain and irrigation of different types (concrete canals, soil canals). This study was carried out to analysis for the suspended sediment concentration and sediment of drain and irrigation by velocity of flow. The results of study were analysised and summerized as follow. Sedimentation characteristics and size of soil sediment from the concrete and soil canals of downstream smaller than upstream. Suspended sediment concentration and flow times from the suggestion canals bigger than open canal. Structural shape of the canal decreases the velocity of flow also affects the suspended sediment concentration and flow times.

  • The purpose of our study was to develop the fabrication method of porous diatomite ceramics with a porosity gradient by centrifugal molding. The processing variables of centrifugal molding were derived from Stoke's law of sedimentation, which were the radius of the particles, the acceleration due to centrifugal molding and the dynamic viscosity of the slurry. And these could be controlled by ball-milling conditions, centrifugal conditions, and the addition of methyl cellulose, respectively. The effects of processing conditions on the gradient pore structure of diatomite were investigated by particle size analysis, scanning electron microscope, and mercury porosimeter.

  • In comparison to processed wheat flour products, there is no established method for determining the water absorption of rye flour. The aim of this study was to work out a method using the Planetary mixer P 600 for the determination of water absorption (WA) and the rheological properties in rye dough made from rye flours of 4 different types (I-IV). In the correlation analysis showed that WA had positive correlation with ash, beginning of gelatinization, $125-160{\mu}m$ particles, sedimentation values at 20 and 25 min, bread yield, pH, and total titratable acidity, but had negative correlation with initial viscosity, gelatinization maximum, viscosities on swelling at 25, 28, and $31^{\circ}C$. The WA determined by the Planetary mixer P 600 agreed well with the experimental baking tests.

  • Electroflotation, which is used as an alternative to sedimentation, is a separation treatment process that uses small bubbles to remove low-density particulates. Making allowances for recent collision efficiency diagram based on trajectory analysis, it is necessary to tailor zeta potential of bubbles that collide with negatively charged particles. In this paper, the study was performed to investigate the effects of magnesium and aluminium ions on zeta potential of bubbles. And, it was studied to find out factors which could affect the positively charged bubbles. Consequently, zeta potential of bubbles increased both with higher concentration of metal ions and in the acidic pH value. And, a probable principle that explained the procedure of charge reversal could be a combined mechanism with both specific adsorption of hydroxylated species and laying down of hydroxide precipitate. It also depended on the metal ion concentration in the solution to display its capacity to control the bubble surface.

  • The residual treatment facilities in WTP(water treatment plant) play an important role in solid-liquid separation. At present, it is difficult to solve problems related with thickening and dewatering of WTP sludge, and discharging waste water to river. The quantity of residuals generated from water treatment plants depends upon the raw water quality, dosage of chemicals used, performance of the treatment process, method of sludge removal, efficiency of sedimentation, and backwashing frequency. Sludge production by the physical separation of SS(Suspended Solid) occurs under quiescent conditions in the primary clarifier, where SSs are allowed to settle and to consolidate on the clarifier bottom. Raw primary sludge results when the settled solids are hydraulically removed from the tank. In this study, Drawing characteristics of the sludge thickening in the thickener of Water Treatment Plants was simulated by Using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics.

  • It is essential to accurately predict the change in water level, velocity, and flow rate for each passage of the grit chamber according to the operating conditions of the pump. In this study, VOF multiphase flow analysis was performed, and the flow characteristics of the grit chamber were predicted. As a result of simulations, the sedimentation phenomenon after the entrance of the grit chamber channel is expected to occur on the side walls. When 6 channels are used, the average speed of the channels is about 52% of the design standard, and when 4 channels are used, the value increases to 74% of the design standard. The average water level in the channels tends to decrease as the flow velocity increases, and the water level in the absorption well with a larger flow rate is maintained lower than that in the absorption well with a smaller flow rate.

  • Noodle texture parameters of Korean style wet and dry noodles and relationships between noodle quality and flour characteristics were evaluated for two years, 1997 and 1998, and at two locations, Suwon and Deokso, using Korean winter wheat cultivars and lines. No significant difference for chewiness was found between cultivars over locations. Noodles made from flours from 1997 showed significantly higher chewiness than those from 1998. Chewiness of cooked noodles showed positively significant correlations with protein content and SDS sedimentation volume and negatively significant correlations with starch peak viscosity and flour swelling volume. Korean winter wheat cultivars, except for Gobunmil, Keumkangmil Tapdongmil, Suwon 265 and Suwon 280, showed chewiness of cooked noodles similar to commercial flours used for noodle making in Korea and Japan.

  • In E. coli, chromosomal DNA associated with proteins is condensed into an organized structure known as nucleoid. Using a nitrocellulose filter binding assay to identify proteins forming nucleoid, a 21 kDa protein was purified from E. coli. The molecular weight of the purified protein was 21 kDa on SDS-polyactylamide gel electrophoresis and 24 kDa on gel permeation chromatography. A molecular weight of 21 kDa on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is unique among known proteins which are believed to be involved in the formation of nucleoid in E. coli. The 21 kDa protein nonspecifically binds to both double-stranded and single-stranded DNA. Sedimentation in a sucrose gradient revealed that the protein induced significant condensation of both supercoiled plasmid DNA and linear bacteriophage $\lambda$ DNA On the basis of quantitative Western-blot analysis, approximately 40,000 molecules of the protein were estimated to exist in an E. coli. The biochemical properties and cellular abundance of the 21 kDa protein suggest that this protein participates in the formation of nucleoid in E. coli.

  • Settling Basins are one of the most important and popular methods for removal of suspended sediments irrigation and drainage networks or power canals taking off from an alluvial river and wastewater treatment plant. Improving the performance and so increasing sediment removal efficiency of settling basins by an alternative method is necessary. In the present work, the effect of baffle and its angle of attack with the flow (${\theta}$) on the sediment removal efficiency is investigated by conducting a series of experiments on a straight canal with 8 m length, 0.3 m width and 0.5 m height and 3 m length of basin equipped with an adjustable glass baffle. A numerical analysis has been carried out using ANSYS Fluent 3D software (a general purpose computational fluid dynamics simulation tool) for three Froude numbers from the experiments. The numerical and experimental results were found to match reasonably well.
