  • When a building suffers damages under moderate to severe loading condition, its physical properties such as damping and stiffness parameters will change. There are different practical methods besides various numerical procedures that have successfully detected a range of these changes. Almost all the previous proposed methods used to work with translational components of mode shapes, probably because extracting these components is more common in vibrational tests. This study set out to investigate the influence of using both rotational and translational components of mode shapes, in detecting damages in 3-D steel structures elements. Three different sets of measured components of mode shapes are examined: translational, rotational, and also rotational/translational components in all joints. In order to validate our assumptions two different steel frames with three damage scenarios are considered. An iterative model updating program is developed in the MATLAB software that uses the OpenSees as its finite element analysis engine. Extensive analysis shows that employing rotational components results in more precise prediction of damage location and its intensity. Since measuring rotational components of mode shapes still is not very convenient, modal dynamic expansion technique is applied to generate rotational components from measured translational ones. The findings indicated that the developed model updating program is really efficient in damage detection even with generated data and considering noise effects. Moreover, methods which use rotational components of mode shapes can predict damage's location and its intensity more precisely than the ones which only work with translational data.

  • KARI developed 50m class unmanned airship. The airship employ the pressure envelope design principle. The envelope must be considered as a main structural element of the airship. The envelope & three ballonets are fabricated by polyfiber composite laminates. Other structural components (gondola, tailwing, nosecone & engine mounts) are manufactured by carbon fiber & glass fiber laminates. In order to develop a big unmanned airship, a large amount of structural design, analysis and tests had to be made. The paper describes the structural configuration of the 50m class uumanned airship which are basic starting point of the structural development of an airship. The paper includes the various designing processes, components development tests and analysis results. Envelope & ballonets development processes which are very different to conventional airplane design are given in details with actual analysis & test results. The paper also describes the structural design and analysis results for other composite made structures. Each components were tested by static design limit loads and structural safety were confirmed. • In this study the distribution patterns of the metallic components were analyzed both before and after the Asian Dust (AD) events at 2001 by comparing the chemical composition of metallic components in terms of various statistical methods. According to the AD/NAD concentration ratio of metallic components, the main components of crustal soils were exhibiting the values above 1.0; but opposite results were seen dominantly for hazardous metallic components. Examination of fine-to-coarse (F/C) ratios of metallic components showed higher values for major anthropogenic components including Pb (5.83). Ni (2.61), etc. Comparison of our measurement data with those obtained within and across the Korean peninsula indicated that the metallic distribution patterns of the study area can be distinguished from previous studies. The results of our analysis, when investigated in relation with air mass movement patterns. indicated evidence of the direct influence of AD events and anthropogenic processes.

  • There are many methods in feature extraction have been developed. Recently, principal components analysis (PCA) and independent components analysis (ICA) is introduced for doing feature extraction. PCA and ICA linearly transform the original input into new uncorrelated and independent features space respectively In this paper, the feasibility of using nonlinear feature extraction will be studied. This method will employ the PCA and ICA procedure and adopt the kernel trick to nonlinearly map the data into a feature space. The goal of this study is to seek effectively useful feature for faults classification.

  • This paper estimates defect and outbreak probabilities of each individual component from some subset of masked data where the exact component causing system failure might be unknown. A system consists of k components that fails whenever there is a defect in at least one of the components. Due to cost and time constraints it is not feasible to learn exactly which components are defective. Because, test procedures ascertain that the defective components belong to some subset of the k components. This phenomenon is termed masking. We describe a, b, c type in which a sample of masked subsets is subjected to intensive failure analysis. This recorded data of a, b, c type enables maximum likelihood estimation of defect probability of each individual component and leads to outbreak of the defective components in future masked failures.

  • Component-based software development (CBSD) is a method for building large software system by integrating previously-existing software components. Software development method using components has several advantages such that reducing time to delivery and development costs, and increasing productivity etc. But integrating components developed from multiple vendors is too difficult As a result it is required the understanding on the context of use to develop reusable components. The context of use for software component of determined by software architecture. Therefore, it is possible to develop an application based on components if is based on software architecture. Also, it is essential to consider domain concepts for CBSD. To increase the reusability of components. we should develop components in a domain which is a set of related systems. In this paper, we proposed a domain architecture development methodology that supports component-based software development. Domain architecture that represents components and their relationship is produced through domain analysis and design process. We believe that component development methodology using proposed domain architecture can efficiently develop highly reusable components as well as easily develop and application using information acquired from domain architecture.
