This study is aimed to show that an asymmetric load in the frontal plane leads to an increase in low back loading and fatigue in comparison with a symmetric load when workers lift an external weight by investigating previous studies and verifying the phenomenon with an experiment. Ten male subjects are required to lift and hold an given external load at 70cm height during 50sec, then the EMG amplitude and median frequency on bilateral low back muscle groups (Longissimus, Iliocostalis, and Multifidus) are recorded and analyzed. Independent variables are two-level load weight (13kg, 20kg) and three-level LCG (Center, 6.5cm to the right, and 13cm to the right), and dependent variables are EMG amplitude average, difference, and Fatigue Index (FI). Results show that load weight increases significantly amplitude average and FI, but LCG does significantly amplitude difference and FI significantly (P-value < 0.05). Also the correlation coefficient between amplitude difference and FI is over 0.99. These implies that trunk loading should be explained by not EMG amplitude but muscle fatigue aspect since the association between an external load and amplitude is linear, but the relationship between an external load and median frequency as muscle fatigue index is almost exponential.
Purpose: This study has been conducted to know the relation among accommodative amplitude, response, and facility. Methods: 61 subjects were students without any ocular diseases and presbyopia in a university, Korea. After far distance visual acuity was fully corrected, the amplitude was measured through Push-Up test, the response was measured through Jackson crossed cylinder ${\pm}$0.25D and the facility was measured through +2.00/ -2.00D flipper. Results: The relation among accommodative facility, response and amplitude had not indicate significant level in monocular and binocular. In binocular, 12 eyes (19.6%) had a difference in amplitude, 9 eyes (14.7%) had a difference in response, 2 eyes (3.2%) had a difference in facility from norm which would be expected from their age. 4 eyes (6.5%) had difference in both amplitude and response. 2 eye (3.2%) had difference in both amplitude and facility. In all three of the amplitude, response, facility had not difference. Conclusions: The evaluation of accommodative functions and a patients accommodative dysfunction is examined all facets of amplitude, response, and facility.

An instantaneous frequency analysis is a technique to examine a signature for the rotating machinery if the signal has several transitions within a cycle. This paper discusses the conditions of existing negative frequency components in the instantaneous frequency. By using a signal consisted of two frequency components, the instantaneous frequency analysis is conducted while the amplitude ratio between two frequency components has been changed. The analysis shows that, depending on the amplitude ratio, the instantaneous frequencies have averaged, zero-valued, or negative components. It turns out that the negative-valued instantaneous frequencies, which have been regarded as the noise effect, are the consequence of the calculation process for the multisignal components. The criteria of existing the negative values in instantaneous frequencies is given in terms of the relative amplitude ratio and the frequency difference. Especially when the amplitude ratio approaches to 1, the instantaneous frequency fluctuates ${\pm}\infty$ in theory, which implies that instantaneous frequency has unstable region around the amplitude ratio, 1.Also, as the frequency difference between major signal components is increased, the region of existing negative instantaneous becomes broader. In an instantaneous frequency analysis, therefore, a narrow band analysis is suggested, with extreme care if the amplitude ratio approaches to 1. In this paper, a vibration signal monitored from a rotating machinery is also examined as an application example in order to show the existence of negative instantaneous frequencies components.
This paper presents the effect of axial stretching on large amplitude free vibration of an extensible suspended cable supported at the same level. The model formulation developed in this study is based on the virtual work-energy functional of cables which involves strain energy due to axial stretching and work done by external forces. The difference in the Euler equations between equilibrium and motion states is considered. The resulting equations govern the horizontal and vertical motion of the cables, and are coupled and highly nonlinear. The solution for the nonlinear static equilibrium configuration is determined by the shooting method while the solution for the large amplitude free vibration is obtained by using the second-order central finite difference scheme with time integration. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the vibration behaviour of extensible suspended cables.
In this paper, performance degradation in the cross-eye jamming due to amplitude mismatch of two jamming antennas is considered. The mismatch of the amplitude ratio is modeled as a random variable with a normal distribution of the difference between the actual amplitude ratio and the nominal amplitude ratio due to mechanical defects. In the proposed analytic performance analysis, the first-order Taylor series expansion and the second-order Taylor series expansion is adopted. Performance measure of the cross-eye jamming is the mean square difference (MSD). The analytically derived MSD is validated by comparing the analytically derived MSD with the first-order Taylor series-based simulation-based MSD and the second-order Taylor series-based simulation-based MSD. It shows that the analysis-based MSD is superior to the Monte-Carlo-based MSD, which has a high calculation cost.
An active stimulating device (ASD) consisting of a net panel or ropes fluttering in the turbulence inside the cod end was effective in driving fish near the cod end to reduce juvenile by-catch. The fluttering characteristics of the rope and net panel were examined by video observations and analyzed for fluttering amplitude and period in a water channel and in field experiments with a bottom trawl. The amplitude ratio of the fluttering ropes or nets in the tank test increased with the fluttering index as the diameter of the twine, mesh size, flexibility, and flow velocity changed, whereas the period decreased with the above factors. In bottom trawl experiments, the range of mean depth difference in the fluttering net panel was 12-17% of the length of the fluttering net, and the period of depth difference or three-dimensional (3D) tilt was revealed, with shorter ones ranging from 2 to 6 s. The amplitude as depth difference and period from field measurements were similar to those of nets in tank experiments and also to the period of 3D flow velocity inside the cod end. These results could be used to design an ASD that could be used for to the cod end of actual towed fishing gear to reduce juvenile by-catch.
As a prerequisite of developing muscle biofeedback system which can simulate analogous isokinetic exercise, the purpose of this study was to study the effects of frequency and amplitude of whole-body vibration on the difference in sEMG on lower extremities during leg press exercise with/without vibration. The amplitude of vibration was set to 20, 50, 80 and the frequency of vibration was set to 10, 20, 30, and 50 Hz. EMG were measured at Vastus lateralis muscle and Vastus medialis muscle. MP100 EMG module(BIOPAC system Inc., USA) was used for EMG measurement. The result showed that the combination of frequency of 30Hz and amplitude of 50 had more activated EMG than other combination with relatively small work load (30kg). It is necessary to experiment the frequency between 20 and 40Hz in detail, and to normalize sEMG using maximal voluntary contraction (MVC).
This study investigates differences in intensity across the three different Korean obstruent types in terms of the RMS amplitude of both the entire section and the first 512 samples of the immediately following vowel in two positions. The results showed that for the utterance initial position the RMS amplitude of both the entire section and the first 512 samples of the vowel was greatest for fortis obstruents, intermediate for aspirated ones, and weakest for lenis ones, with a significant difference between each pair of them. For the intervocalic position, in contrast, the intensity of the entire vowel was greatest for fortis obstruents, intermediate for lenis ones, and weakest for aspirated ones, with no significant difference between the last two groups, whereas the intensity of the first 512 samples of the vowel was greatest for fortis obstruents, intermediate for lenis ones, and weakest for aspirated ones, with a significant difference between each pair of the three groups. This means that the intensity of the earlier part of the vowel functions as a discriminator of Korean obstruents. The positional difference is due to the different behavior of the lenis obstruents in the intervocalic position, such that the intensity build-up is already on its way with voice lead.

This paper reports on several experiments carried out to find the effects of intensity difference on duration discrimination in pairs of pure tones. Pure-tone signals were presented with the modification of amplitude and duration. Duration-discrimination thresholds for the musical tones and the signals that were varied in amplitude were investigated together with those of the fixed signals. From the results, it was found that the duration discrimination tasks are affected by an intensity difference of 20 phons.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of vibration frequency and amplitude on scapular winging during the knee push-up plus exercise. METHODS: A total of 26 female subjects with scapular winging were evaluated while performing the knee push-up plus exercise with no vibration, low-frequency/low-amplitude (5 Hz/3 mm) vibration, low-frequency/high-amplitude (5 Hz/9 mm) vibration, high-frequency/low-amplitude (15 Hz/3 mm) vibration, and high-frequency/high-amplitude (15 Hz/9 mm) vibration. The surface EMG of the serratus anterior (SA) muscle was compared between the vibration frequency and amplitude. The EMG amplitude was normalized using the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC). The statistical significance of the results was evaluated using one-way ANOVA. RESULTS: The SA muscle EMG values increased at low-frequency/low-amplitude vibration and at low-frequency/high-amplitude vibration compared to no vibration. Furthermore, the same values increased at high-frequency/low-amplitude vibration and high-frequency/high-amplitude vibration compared to no vibration. In general, a higher vibration frequency and amplitude was associated with higher EMG values of the SA muscle, with particularly greater increases observed during high-frequency/high-amplitude vibration. There was also a significant difference between each condition with a high-frequency/high-amplitude vibration (p<.05). CONCLUSION: This study suggests that there were remarkable clinical effect of the knee push-up plus exercise with vibration, which enhanced the SA muscle activation in persons with scapular winging. Furthermore, applying a higher vibration frequency and amplitude more effectively increased for increasing SA muscle activation.
