First, this study analyzes the problems of the above three options based on the context of 'free choice', while examining how welfare regimes have dealt with the changes in childcare policy. Second, the study reviews several controversies in the process of policy formation for childcare service, including coverage of service recipient, policy direction, outcome, efficiency, and priority. Third, it proposes an alternative for accomplishing universal childcare service delivery system. Finally, the paper is to point out that the reform of childcare policy of MB government carries fundamental problems of reinforcing class stratification and gender stratification, and thus dose not attain the ultimate goal of childcare policy.

  • This paper investigates the service quality determinants in management consulting. Quality dimensions in SERVQUAL research, as well as several dimensions specific to the consulting service, have been reviewed. A survey has been conducted by carefully developed questionnaires for the hypothesized eight quality dimensions. The results of the statistical analyses support the eight quality dimensions in the consulting service : reliability, assurance, responsiveness, empathy, ethics, participation, communication, and reputation. The results demonstrate that reliability, assurance, participation, and reputation are especially influential in determining customer satisfaction. The research results provide useful insights for a customer in assessing alternative service providers and foreseeing the outcome from the chosen consultants.

Housing acquisition is a difficult problem for the venerable population to get, so appropriate alternatives should be explored. In USA, under the 'Housing First' principle, supportive housing has been developed as a main alternative. Sharing this alternative experience is very valuable to promote future development including policies. The purpose of this study is to delineate the trend of supportive housing research. This research is conducted by content analysis technique, and data were recent 29 research articles dealing supportive housing, collected from medical service data base where supportive housing research has started and diffused. As results, overall trends and characteristics appeared that the main research field was Psychiatry/Psychology, and mostly, they were correlational research. Mainly, resident type was mentally ill, and the principal research method was secondary data analysis. In general, all the service programs were mostly essential, and the number of congregate housing type appeared dominantly. The modern supportive housing is a social intervention to cope with instability of future housing welfare.

  • Most of comparative studies in science teacher education so far have been conducted in terms of teacher education policy, pre- and in-service training system and curriculum, and certificate system. While such superficial information can be readily obtainable, it does not necessarily enable us to make access to reality of science teachers' professional development in respective countries, because practice in professional development among science teachers is deeply embedded into respective socio-cultural environment or climate. In order to get information on reality in science teachers' professional development, alternative approaches of research should be developed. This paper aims at pursuing an alternative way to approach reality of Japanese science teachers' professional development. An email survey of free description method with 29 in-service science teachers with a variety of years of experience in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, revealed that Japanese science teachers have developed their expertise through very close daily-based communication with their peer science teachers. At least, within their consciousness, neither formal in-service training programs, nor pre-service training programs have had much stronger effects on their professional development than such non-formal, daily-based, deep, apprenticeship-typed or in some sense, family-typed communication. The results suggest that in order to conduct meaningful comparative studies, we should take much more attention to how to make access to reality of science teachers' professional development.

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose the current status of alternative materials in Korea and to suggest directions and goals for the development of alternative materials. The comprehensive list of national alternative materials and the list of popular and new books were analyzed using the collection evaluation method. Results first the percentage of alternative material collections based on the popular book list for 10 years is 90.1%. The production rate of alternative materials is low in the subjects of 'Language', 'Art' and 'Technology and Science'. Most of the service formats were 'text only daisy'. Second, the CCHR(Common Collection Holding Ratio) and CUI(Collection Uniqueness index) of alternative materials were analyzed using the union catalog. Libraries with a large volume of books have a high proportion of CCHR and CUI. Topics with the highest CCHR are 'Literature' and 'Social Science'. The subjects with the highest collection uniqueness index are 'religion', 'art', and 'language'. Third, the replacement ratio of new books for 3 years is 5.09%. During the same period, the average book purchase rate of public libraries was 8.83%. The average book purchase rate in public libraries is 8.83%, and it is necessary to increase the collection rate of alternative materials based on this ratio.

  • As service firms continue to seek unique sources of sustainable competitive advantage, service quality has been discussed as a potential alternative to traditional skills and sources. The information of customers is generally believed to be a key component in creating corporate responsiveness to customer requests. In order to develop and maintain long-term close relationships with customers, service firms need to build an effective and ongoing service qualify information system(SQIS). Service firms that formally collect customer-related information and internal service quality information were to be more responsive. Accordingly, the purpose of the present study is twofold. 1. How to get the information on the service quality. 2. How to build a SQIS. An analysis is conducted of SQIS into input, process and output staging. One of numerous examples from financial service-sector firms is given to show SQIS can be developed to improve service qualify. Implications and strategies for building an effective SQIS for financial service-sector firms are discussed, and directions for future research are indicated.

  • The purpose of this study is to critically review the previous research on the measurement of service quality, and to present future research directions on hotel service quality measurement as follows: 1. As Carman(1990) shows in his study, items of quality measurement should be developed to be fit for the measurement of hotel service quality. 2. To evaluate the service quality of a hotel, measuring three divisions(Room, F&B and Others) separately, then combining them would be the best model. 3. Researches to identify the various dimensions of hotel service quality are needed. 4. In measuring hotel service quality, guests should be classified according to various criteria. 5. To measure the hotel service quality, SERVPERF model might be more a, pp.opriate due to the small number of items to be answered. 6. In hotel industry, researches to identify causal pths between customer satisfaction and service quality are needed. 7. We need to develop alternative scales for the measurement of hotel service quality.
