Ni-Ti alloy has excellent corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, shape memory effect and superelasticity, so it has been used widely in biomedical fields. But it has difficulty in casting due to its high melting temperature and oxygen affinity at high temperature. Recently it has been attempted to cast Ni-Ti alloy using new casting machine and investment. The purpose of this study was to examine the superelastic behavior of cast shape memory Ni-Ti alloy and to compare the mechanical properties of the cast shape memory alloy with those of commercial alloys for removable partial denture framework. Ni-Ti alloy(Ni 50.25%, Ti 49.75% : atomic ratio) was cast with dental argon-arc pressure casting machine and Type IV gold alloy, Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy, pure titanium were cast as reference. Experimental cast Ni-Ti alloy was treated with heat($500{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) in muffle furnace for 1 hour. Transformation temperature range of cast Ni-Ti alloy was measured with differential scanning calorimetry. The superelastic behavior and mechanical properties of cat Ni-Ti alloy were observed and evaluated by three point bending test, ultimate tensile test, Vickers microhardness test and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : 1. Cast Ni-Ti alloy(Ni 50.25%, Ti 49.75% : atomic ratio) was found to have superelastic behavior. 2. Stiffness of cast Ni-Ti alloy was considerably lesser than that of commercial alloys for removable partial denture. 3. Permanent deformation was observed in commercial alloys for removable partial denture framework at three point bending test over proportional limit(1.5mm deflection), but was not nearly observed in cast Ni-Ti alloy. 4. On the mechanical properties of ultimate tensile strength, elongation and Vickers microhardness number, cast Ni-Ti alloy was similiar to Type IV gold alloy, Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and pure titanium. With these results, cast Ni-Ti alloy had superelastic behavior and low stiffness. Therefore, it is suggested that cast Ni-Ti alloy may be applicated to base metal alloy for removable partial denture framework.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile strength of solder joint between gold alloy and nickel-chromium alloy. The specimens were made with type III gold alloys and Ni-Cr-Be alloy and Degular Lot 2 solder. Eighteen paired specimens were made, and subdivided into three groups. Group I specimens were gold alloy-gold alloy combination, Group II specimens were gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination, Group III specimens were Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination. Solder block were made with solder investment(Degussa A,G, Germany) and stored in room temperature for 24 hours. To reduce the formation of metallic oxide and increase wetting properties, flux was used before preheating and soldering procedure. The specimens were preheated at $650^{\circ}C$ and flux were applied again and gas-oxygen torch was used to solder the specimen. All soldered specimens were subjected to a tensile force in the Instron universal testing machine : the crosshead speed was 1 mm/mim. Tensile strength values of three soldered joint groups were 1. Gold alloy-Gold alloy solder joint : $$48.8kg/mm^2$$ 2. Gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$30.9kg/mm^2$$ 3. Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$31.8kg/mm^2$$ The microscopic examination of fracture site showed cohesive and combination fracture modes in gold alloy specimens, but showed all adhesive fracture modes in Ni-Cr alloy containing specimens.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of recasting on the castability and physical properties of the nonprecious metal alloy. Using 2 sorts of the nonprecious metal alloy for production of Crown and Bridge prosthetics, such as 1) sankin C. B 80 metal 2) C & B alloy, the result of experimental research on the castability and hardness according to the recasting, is as followes; 1. The difference of castability between sankin CB80 metal and C & B alloy was statistically significant (p < 0.01) and the difference of castability among the test groups, was statistically significant (p <0.01). 2. In the case of sankin C.B 80 metal, the difference of castability among the New alloy and first mixed alloy and second mixed alloy and old alloy was not significant statistically (p >0.05). 3. In the case of C & B alloy, the difference of castability among the New alloy and mixed alloys and old alloy, was not significant statistically (p >0.05). 4. The difference of hardness between sankin C & B alloy was not significant statistically (p >0.05), but the difference of hardness among the test groups was statistically significant (p <0.01). 5. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of shear bond strength between various percentage of reused dental ceramic alloys and porcelain. One hundred specimens were made of one semiprecious alloy and three nonprecious alloys. Each alloy group was subdevided into five groups according to the additional precentage of new alloy. Group I specimens were made of 100% new alloy and served as the control of the investigation. Group II specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 75% new alloy. Group III specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 50% new alloy. Group IV specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 25% new alloy. Group V specimens were made of 100% recast alloy. Five specimens were made for each group of the alloy combinations. The test specimens were prepared by firing porcelain doughnuts on the alloy rod surface, and invested in dental stone. Bond strengths were measured by Instron universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The fractured surface of metal specimens were examined under the scanning electron microscope. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The shear bond strength of Albabond showed no significant difference between control group and reused alloy group. 2. The shear bond strength of reused alloy groups of nonprecious alloys were lower than that of control groups. 3. The shear bond strength between porcelain and metal in semiprecious alloy was higher than in nonprecious alloys 4. In nonprecious alloys. Rexillium III showed the highest bond strength value and Excelalloy showed the lowest shear bond strength value. 5. Regardless of the type of alloys and additional proportion of new alloys, scanning electron microscope photographs of the fracture surface between alloy and porcelain revealed simillar semiprecious alloy and nonprecious alloys.

Low-cost alloying elements were added to a modified Al-6.5Si alloy and its microstructure, tensile and impact toughness properties were investigated. The alloying elements added were Mg, Zn, and Cu, and two kinds of alloy A (Mg:0.5, Zn:1, Cu:1.5 wt.%) and alloy B (Mg:2, Zn:1.5, Cu:2 wt.%) were prepared. In the as-cast Al-6.5Si alloys, Si phases were distributed at the dendrite interfaces, and Al2Cu, Mg2Si, Al6 (Fe,Mn) and Al5 (Fe,Mn)Si precipitates were also observed. The size and fraction of casting defects were measured to be higher for alloy A than for alloy B. The secondary dendrite arm spacing of alloy B was finer than that of alloy A. It was confirmed by the JMatPro S/W that the cooling rate of alloy B could be more rapid than alloy A. The alloy B had higher hardness and strength compared to the values of alloy A. However, the alloy A showed better impact toughness than alloy B. Based on the above results, the deformation mechanism of Al-6.5Si alloy and the improving method for mechanical properties were also discussed.

The surface morphology, the glossiness and the hardness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-X(X:Co, Mn) alloy electrodeposits were investigated by using chloride bath with EDTA additive and flow cell system. The surface morphology of Zn-Cr alloy and Zn-Cr-Mn alloy changed from fine needle shape crystalline structure to colony structure of fine granular crystallites with increasing current density in the range of 20-100 $A/dm^2$. The surface morphology of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from low Co concentration bath(2.5-10 g/$\ell$) was similar to that of Zn-Cr alloy, while that of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from high cobalt concentration bath was fine granular crystalline structure in the same range of current density. The glossiness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-Mn alloy increased noticeably with increasing current density, while that of Zn-Cr-Mn alloy decreased with increasing Mn concentration of bath in high current density region. The glossiness of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from low Co concentration bath increased with current density while that of the alloy from high Co concentration bath decreased with increasing current density. The hardness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-X alloy increased noticeably with current density.
