  • Due to the decrease in the school-age population and the overall population, school closures will continue to occur. Currently, most school closures are happening in rural areas, where geographical conditions often result in relatively poor educational, welfare, and cultural facilities compared to urban areas. Additionally, the proportion of elderly populations and migrant women is continuously increasing. In order to effectively utilize closed schools in the future, various efficient utilization methods that align with the social context of the respective regions will be necessary. The purpose of this study is to examine the status of closed school and utilization types in selected rural and island areas of similar sizes through field surveys and literature reviews. By comparing and analyzing these findings, we have identified the predominant utilization types in rural and island areas and assessed the current situation where utilization is lacking. Based on the results, we aim to provide fundamental data for improving and enhancing the utilization of school closures in the face of the ongoing decline in the school-age population.

  • This study delves into the significant impact of integrating nanomaterials, specifically carbon and graphene nanoparticles, into the polymer matrix of aluminum alloy 356, utilizing the vortex casting technique, with the aim of improving the mechanical properties of table tennis equipment. Athletes and their coaching teams have long been on a quest for high-performance sports gear, recognizing its pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of players. The dedication of engineers to craft designs, select materials with precision, and uphold stringent testing standards reflects the commitment to meeting the demands of the sporting world. Yet, to remain at the forefront, sports engineering must continually align with contemporary technologies, and nanotechnology has emerged as a transformative force in this regard. This study not only underscores the meticulous efforts in material integration but also highlights the remarkable strides made possible by nanotechnology. Aluminum nanocomposites, particularly, showcase a groundbreaking fusion of exceptional strength and reduced weight, marking a notable achievement in sports equipment innovation. The research outcomes are compelling, revealing a substantial enhancement in the mechanical performance of the sports structures under scrutiny. This promising development hints at a potential paradigm shift in the manufacturing of sports equipment, promising a new era of elevated athlete performance and enhanced safety during the rigors of physical education training. This study stands as a testament to the tangible impact of nanotechnology on the ever-evolving landscape of sports equipment.

  • Amid the flood of data, social network analysis is beneficial in searching for its hidden context and verifying several pieces of information. This can be used for detecting the spread model of infectious diseases, methods of preventing infectious diseases, mining of small groups and so forth. In addition, community detection is the most studied topic in social network analysis using graph analysis methods. The objective of this study is to examine signed attributed social networks and identify the maximal balanced cliques that are both absolute and fair. In the same vein, the purpose is to ensure fairness in complex networks, overcome the "information cocoon" bottleneck, and reduce the occurrence of "group polarization" in social networks. Meanwhile, an empirical study is presented in the experimental section, which uses the personal information of 77 employees of a research company and the trust relationships at the professional level between employees to mine some small groups with the possibility of "group polarization." Finally, the study provides suggestions for managers of the company to align and group new work teams in an organization.

  • This study attempted to obtain implications for digital education policy by reviewing the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees related to digital education. To this end, the following were explored. First, the concept and components of digital competency were reviewed. Second, the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees related to digital education policy were reviewed using the above concepts. Third, the characteristics and implications of the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees for digital education were explored. The results are as follows: Korea's digital education policy tried to reflect the categories that digital competency must cover, even its function and dysfunction role. However, to achieve their purpose, it is necessary to maintain consistency with related laws or policies. We identified that amendments to the Basic Act and related articles are essential to effectively enforce the Digital-Based Distance Education Activation Basic Act. A reevaluation of the correlation between Article 10, emphasizing digital media literacy education, and Article 5 of the enforcement decree is necessary. Revision of the enforcement decree to align with Article 10's objectives is vital to ensure proactive measures for promoting digital literacy and competence as mandated by the Basic Act.

Trends in the AI-based Banking Conversational Agents Literature: A Bibliometric Review

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the technologies powered by AI fuel the fourth industrial revolution. Being the primary adopter of such innovations, banking has recently started using the most common AI-based technology, i.e., conversational agents. Although research extensively focuses on this niche area and provides bibliometric understanding for such agents in other industries, a similar review with scientometric insights of the banking literature concerning AI conversational agents is absent till date. Furthermore, in the era following the pandemic, banks are faced with the imperative to provide solutions that align with the changing landscape of remote consumer behavior. As a result, banks are proactively integrating technology-driven solutions, such as automated agents, to effectively address the growing demand for remote customer support. Hence more research is needed to perfect such agents. In order to bridge these existing gaps, the present study undertook a comprehensive examination of two decades' worth of banking literature. A meticulous review was conducted, analyzing approximately 116 papers published from 2003 to 2023. The aim was to provide a scientometric overview of the topic, catering to the research needs of both academic and industrial professionals. Holistically, the study seeks to present a macro-view about the existing trends in AI based banking conversational agents' literature while focusing on quantity, qualitative and structural indicators that are effectively necessary to offer new directions for the AI-based banking solutions. Our study, therefore, presents insights surrounding the literature, using selected techniques related to performance analysis and science mapping.

Benford's Law and its Potential for Data Verification in Ecological Monitoring

  • Ecological monitoring provides indispensable data for biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management. However, the complexity and variability inherent in ecological monitoring data necessitate robust verification processes to ensure data integrity. This study employed Benford's Law, a statistical principle traditionally used in fields such as finance and health sciences, to evaluate the authenticity of ecological monitoring data related to the abundance of migratory bird species across various locations in South Korea. Benford's Law anticipates a specific logarithmic distribution of leading digits in naturally occurring numerical datasets. Our investigation involved two stages of analysis: a first-order analysis considering the leading digit and a second-order analysis examining the first two digits of bird population counts. While the first-order analysis displayed moderate conformity to Benford's Law that suggested overall data integrity, the second-order analysis revealed more pronounced deviations, indicating potential inconsistencies or inaccuracies in certain subsets of the data. Although our data did not perfectly align with Benford's Law, these deviations underscore the complex nature of ecological research, which is influenced by a multitude of environmental, methodological, and human factors.

  • This study aims to investigate the impact of character collaboration product characteristics on brand awareness and purchase intention within the food and beverage (F&B) industry, with a special focus on Generation MZ's growing interest in such products. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing literature on character marketing, brand awareness, and consumer purchase intention, supplemented by case studies of successful character collaborations in the F&B sector. The findings reveal that character collaborations significantly impact brand awareness and purchase intentions, particularly among younger consumers like Generation MZ. These collaborations not only rekindle nostalgia but also introduce new and exciting consumer experiences, effectively attracting a wide demographic. The success of character-themed products, from Pokémon bread to Coca-Cola's League of Legends collaboration, underscores the strategy's effectiveness in boosting brand recognition and consumer engagement. The implications of this research are manifold for the F&B industry. Firstly, it highlights the importance of leveraging popular characters to forge emotional connections with consumers. Secondly, it suggests that product development should closely align with consumer preferences and market trends to maximize appeal. Lastly, it positions character collaboration as a strategic marketing tool that not only enhances product sales but also strengthens brand loyalty and facilitates sustained brand growth.

  • The self-driving roller conveyor system, which transports target products by controlling multiple rollers with a motor, is a logistics system suitable for branching and joining logistics and controlling the alignment of target products, and its utilization is increasing, especially in the food manufacturing process. In this paper, we build a simulation environment using Unity software based on 3D graphic modeling of a self-driving roller conveyor system. In a situation where target products are supplied irregularly in terms of time, a method is proposed that can align products to maintain constant spacing by controlling the rollers. Simulation results show that effective alignment of products is possible by controlling the motor that drives the roller based on sensor data of the product position.

Analysis of plane figures and their measures in 'GwangmuYangan' from the perspective of Joseon mathematics (조선 산학의 관점에서 <광무양안>에 제시된 평면도형의 측도 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze Joseon mathematical knowledge and its application to real world. The mathematical knowledge refers to measuring the area of plane figures, known as square-shaped land(方田). Its application is land surveys(量田) conducted for taxation purposes. Specifically, this study analyzes the correlation between the related contents in representative mathematical books of the Joseon Dynasty, such as MuksaJipsanbub (17th century), Guiljib (18th century), and SanhakIbmun (18th century), and the shapes and areas of plane figures presented in GwangmuYangan (20th century). The analysis reveals both differences and similarities in the measured area between mathematical books and real world land surveys. While most results of the land survey align with the results obtained from mathematical methods, differences arise due to variations in real measurement of lengths and given conditions in the problems. Additionally, various aspects such as the focus on rectangles in land surveys, the proportionality and relativity of lengths, types of approximation, composed shapes, the purpose of problem solving, and reasoning of unspecified shapes or measures are discussed.

Incorporating Deep Median Networks for Arabic Document Retrieval Using Word Embeddings-Based Query Expansion

  • The information retrieval (IR) process often encounters a challenge known as query-document vocabulary mismatch, where user queries do not align with document content, impacting search effectiveness. Automatic query expansion (AQE) techniques aim to mitigate this issue by augmenting user queries with related terms or synonyms. Word embedding, particularly Word2Vec, has gained prominence for AQE due to its ability to represent words as real-number vectors. However, AQE methods typically expand individual query terms, potentially leading to query drift if not carefully selected. To address this, researchers propose utilizing median vectors derived from deep median networks to capture query similarity comprehensively. Integrating median vectors into candidate term generation and combining them with the BM25 probabilistic model and two IR strategies (EQE1 and V2Q) yields promising results, outperforming baseline methods in experimental settings.
