  • This paper describes a design of high performance modular multiplier that is essentially used for elliptic curve cryptography. Our modular multiplier supports modular multiplications for five field sizes over GF(p), including 192, 224, 256, 384 and 521 bits as defined in NIST FIPS 186-2, and it calculates modular multiplication in two steps with integer multiplication and reduction. The Karatsuba-Ofman multiplication algorithm was used for fast integer multiplication, and the Lazy reduction algorithm was adopted for reduction operation. In addition, the Nikhilam division algorithm was used for the division operation included in the Lazy reduction. The division operation is performed only once for a given modulo value, and it was designed to skip division operation when continuous modular multiplications with the same modulo value are calculated. It was estimated that our modular multiplier can perform 6.4 million modular multiplications per second when operating at a clock frequency of 32 MHz. It occupied 456,400 gate equivalents (GEs), and the estimated clock frequency was 67 MHz when synthesized with a 180-nm CMOS cell library.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel design scheme for an optimal non-uniform planar array geometry in view of maximum side-lobe reduction. This is implemented by a thinned array using a genetic algorithm. We show that the proposed method can maintain a low side-lobe level without pattern distortion during beam steering.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-code division multiplexing access(OFDM-CDMA) systems without guard interval can enhance the bandwidth performance more efficiently than the systems with guard interval. In this paper, a new technique for an OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval, which can eliminate inter-symbol interference(ISI) and inter-channel interference(ICI), is presented. The proposed algorithm is a new demodulation technique, based on the Pseudo-Decorrelator, and it is named PD algorithm. Simulation results show that the PD algorithm can combat ISI and ICI efficiently for an OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval. The BER performance of the PD algorithm is much better than that of a conventional OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval.

  • In this paper, the algorithm is suggested for inserting and extracting the watermark in the digital map of vector form. This kind of algorithm was first anounced by the sakamoto[1]. In order to use watermarking in the digital map, the map is analyzed and experimented to protect the map data. As for the vector watermarking, there are few references and need more research for the theoretical back ground. As for this, in this paper, experiment of the immunity against the noise is conducted for the selection of the proper immunity factor.

  • This study attempts to propose the construction of textbook contents of fraction division and to suggest a method to strengthen the connection among problem context, manipulation activities and symbols by proposing an algorithm of dividing fractions based on problem contexts. As showing the suitable algorithm to problem context, it is able to understand meaningfully that the algorithm of fractions division is that of multiplication of a reciprocal. It also shows how to deal with remainder in the division of fractions. The results of this study are expected to make a meaningful contribution to textbook development for primary students.

  • This research was carried out to improve the productivity in the subassembly process of shipbuilding through optimal work planning for the shortest work time. The work time consist of welding time, moving time of gantry, teaching time of robot and robot motion time. The shortest work time is accomplished by even distribution of work and the shortest welding sequence. Even distribution of work was done by appling the simple algorithm. The shortest work sequence was determined by using GA. The optimal work planning decreased the total work time of the subassembly process by 4.1%. The result showed the effectiveness of the suggested simple algorithm for even distribution of work and GA for the shortest welding sequence.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method extracting an object from background of the satellite image. The image segmentation techniques have been widely studied for the technology to segment image and to synthesis segment object with other images. Proposed algorithm is to perform the edge detection of a selected object using genetic algorithm. We segment region of object based on detection edge using watershed algorithm. We separated background and object in indefinite region using gradual region merge from segment object. And, we make GUI for the application of the proposed algorithm to various tests. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, several analysis on the satellite images are performed.

  • The important problem in designing a Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) is generation of fuzzy control rules and it is usually the case that they are given by human experts of the problem domain. However, it is difficult to find an well-trained expert to any given problem. In this paper, I describes an application of genetic algorithm, a well-known global search algorithm to automatic generation of fuzzy control rules for FLC design. Fuzzy rules are automatically generated by evolving initially given fuzzy rules and membership functions associated fuzzy linguistic terms. Using genetic algorithm efficient fuzzy rules can be generated without any prior knowledge about the domain problem. In addition expert knowledge can be easily incorporated into rule generation for performance enhancement. We experimented genetic algorithm with a non-trivial vehicle controling problem. Our experimental results showed that genetic algorithm is efficient for designing any complex control system and the resulting system is robust.

  • This paper presents an effective algorithm for inserting an MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) into a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) ensemble without any bandwidth waste in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) transmission system. The key technologies of this algorithm include packet rate control and program clock reference correction, which are important for TS processing. The proposed algorithms are applied to the various DMB transmission systems based on Eureka-147, and the performance of the proposed algorithm is confirmed through the experimental DMB broadcasting.

  • A new mesh reconstruction scheme for approximating a surface from a set of unorganized 3D points is proposed. The proposed method, called a shrink-wrapped boundary face (SWBF) algorithm, produces the final surface by iteratively shrinking the initial mesh generated from the definition of the boundary faces. SWBF surmounts the genus-0 spherical topology restriction of previous shrink-wrapping-based mesh generation techniques and can be applied to any type of surface topology. Furthermore, SWBF is significantly faster than a related algorithm of Jeong and others, as SWBF requires only a local nearest-point-search in the shrinking process. Our experiments show that SWBF is very robust and efficient for surface reconstruction from an unorganized point cloud.
