GSHP systems are used for air-conditioning systems in commercial buildings, schools, and factories because of low operating and maintenance costs. These systems use the earth as a heat source in heating and a heat sink in cooling mode. Ground heat exchangers are classified by a horizontal and vertical type according to the installation method. Vertical type is usually constructed by placing small diameter high density polyethylene tube in a vertical borehole. Vertical tube sizes range from 20 to 40 mm nominal diameter. Borehole depth range between 100 and 200 m depending on local drilling conditions and available equipment. In this study, to evaluate the performance of single u-tube with bentonite grouting, single u-tube with broken stone grouting and double u-tube bentonite grouting of vertical ground heat exchangers, test sections are buried on the earth and experimental apparatus is installed. Therefore the heat transfer performance and pressure loss of these are estimated.
The growth of domestic energy demand is rapidly increased for the industrialization and the improvement of the living standards. It is also recognised that the importance of the use of environmentally friendly energy and high efficient equipment. Ground Source heat pumps(GSHP) using earth as heat source or sink are outstanding environmentally friendly energy systems which have high thermal efficiency when compared to conventional heating and cooling system. So government employs a policy and increase investment for expanding renewable energy market volume. Especially is established a system for obligatory usage of renewable energy to achieve 5% renewable energy diffusion rate by 2011. And the market demand for the ground source heat pump is rapidly growing due to its strong advantages. However domestic situation usually have been depended on the import of ground source heat pumps. In this paper, the results of development of a ground source heat pump using refrigerant R410A are reported.
The Kalina cycle simulation study was carried out for a preliminary design of a geothermal power generation system. The Kalina cycle system can be used for the utilization of a low-temperature heat sources such as geothermal and industrial waste heat that are not hot enough to produce steam. The sea/river water can be considered as a cooling media. A steady-state simulation model was developed to analyze and optimize its performance. The model contains a turbine, a pump, an expansion valve and heat exchangers. The turbine and pump were modelled by an isentropic efficiency, while a condenser, an evaporator and a regenerative heat exchanger were modeled by UA-LMTD method with a counter-flow assumption. The simulation results show that the power generation efficiency over 10% is expected when a heat source and sink inlet temperatures are $100^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ respectively.

Although the advance in electronic technology enables a large number of circuity to be packed in a small volume, it is simultaneously required to remove the high heat load produced by them. In this study, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of a mini-channel heat exchanger, which is designed for liquid cooling of electronic components, are investigated by varying operating conditions. Water and FC-72 were used as working fluids. The mini-channel heat exchanger was made with circular shape channels having din-meters of 2, 3, and 4 mm in regular intervals, and the channel length was 100 mm. The header and inlet guide pathway to provide uniform inflow were attached at the inlet of the test section. Copper block including the heaters was attached at the sidewall of the test section as a heat source, which provided the heat flux from 5 to $15W/cm^2$. The entrance effects enhanced the heat transfer coefficient in the mini-channel significantly. In addition, the single-phase pressure drop in the mini-channel was very similar to that predicted by the laminar flow correlation except that the transition Re decreased due to flow instability in the entrance region.
The green house on the waterfront is air-conditioned by a water-source heat pump system with riverbank filtration water. In order to supply riverbank filtration water in alluvium aquifer, the riverbank filtration facility for water intake and recharge, two pumping wells and one recharge well, has been constructed. The research site in Jinju, Korea was chosen as a good site for riverbank filtration water supply by the surface geological survey, electrical resistivity soundings, and borehole surveys. In the results of two boreholes drilling at the site, it was revealed that the groundwater table is about 3 m under the ground, and that the sandy gravel aquifer layer in the thickness of 6.5 m and 3.5 m occurs at 5 m and 7 m in depth below the ground level respectively. To prevent the recharge water from affecting the pumped water which might be used as heat source or sink, the distance between pumping and recharge wells is designed at least 70 m with a quarter of recharged flow rate. It is predicted that the transfer term, the recharge water affects the pumping well, is over 6 months of heating season. Hydrogeological simulation and underground water temperature measurement have been carried out for the pumping and recharge well positions in order to confirm the capability of sustainable green house heating and cooling.

Peak cooling load of large buildings is generally greater than their peak heating load. Internal and solar heat gains are used fur selection of adquate equipment in large building in cold winter climate like Canada and even Korea. The cost of geothermal heat exchanger to meet the cooling loads can increase the initial cost of ground source heat pump system to the extend less costly conventional system often chosen. Thermal ice storage system has been used for many years in Korea to reduce chiller capacity and shift Peak electrical time and demand. A distribution system designed to take advantage of heat extracted from the ice, and use of geothermal loop (geothermal heat exchanger) to heat as an alternate heat source and sink is well known to provide many benifits. The use of thermal energy storage (TES) reduces the heat pump capacity and peak cooling load needed in large building by as much as 40 to $60\%$ with less mechanical equipment and less space for mechanical room. Additionally TES can reduce the size and cost of the geothermal loop by 1/3 to 1/4 compared to ground coupled heat pump system that is designed to meet the peak heating and cooling load and also can eliminate difficuties of geothermal loop installation such as space requirements and thermal conditions of soil and rock at the urban area.
In order to overcome these disadvantages, the halogen light source, which was previously used as a vehicle fog light, has increased power consumption and a short lifetime, and thus, an automobile light source is gradually being replaced with an LED. However, when the vehicle LED fog light is turned on, there is a disadvantage in reducing the life of the fog lamp due to the high heat generated from the LED. The heat generated by the LED inside the fog lamp is mainly emitted by the heatsink, but most of the remaining heat is released to the outside through convection. When cooling efficiency decreases due to convection, thermal energy generates heat to lenses, reflectors, and bezels, which are the main parts of lamps, or generates high temperatures in LED, thereby shortening the life of LED fog lights. In this study, we tried to improve the heat dissipation performance by convection in addition to the heat dissipation method by heat sink, and to determine the installation location of vents that can discharge the internal air or intake the external air of LED fog lamp for vehicle. Thermal fluid analysis was performed to ensure that the optimal data were reflected in the design. The average velocity of air increased in the order of Case3 and Case2 compared to Case1, which is the existing prototype, and the increase rate of Case3 was relatively higher than that of other cases. This is because the vents installed above and below the fog lamps induce the convective phenomena generated according to the temperature difference, and the heat is efficiently discharged with the increase of the air speed.

A high directivity TIR (total internal reflection) lens in the UV-A region was designed using a silicone resin, and a UV light source module with a maximum irradiation density of $150mW/cm^2$ was fabricated. The beam angle of the TIR lens was designed to be $8.04^{\circ}$ and the maximum diameter of the TIR lens was Ø13.5. A silicone resin having a UV transmittance of 93% and a refractive index of 1.4 at a wavelength of 365 nm was used, and the lens was manufactured using an aluminum mold, from which silicone could be easily released. The module was fabricated in a metal printed circuit board of COB (chip on board) type using a $0.75{\times}0.75mm^2$ UV chip. A jig was used to adjust the focal length between lens and chip and to fix the position of the lens. The optical characteristics such as illumination distributions of the lens and module were designed using 'LightTools' optical simulation software. The heat dissipation system was designed to use a forced-air cooling method using a heat-sink and fan.
