DME와 Diesel의 HCCI 연소특성 비교 (DME and Diesel HCCI Combustion Characteristics)

  • HCCI(Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) combustion is an advanced combustion process explained as a homogeneously premixed charge of a fuel where air is admitted into the cylinder and compression ignited. It has possibility to reduce NOx by spontaneous auto-ignition at multiple points that allows very lean combustion resulting in low combustion temperatures. Particulate matters (PM) could be also reduced by the homogeneous combustion and no fuel-rich zones. Injection timing is extremely advanced to achieve homogeneous charge where a diesel fuel could not be vaporized sufficiently due to low pressure and low temperature condition. Also the over-penetration could be a severe problem. The small injection angle and multi-hole injectors were applied to solve these problems. Dimethyl ether (DME) as an altenative fuel was also applied to relive the bad vaporization problem associated with early injection of diesel fuel. Neat DME has a very high cetane rating and high vapor pressure. Contained oxygen reduces soot during the combustion. Experimental result shows DME can be easily operated in an HCCI engine. PM shows almost zero value and NOx is reduced more than 90% compared to direct-injection diesel engine operating mode but problem of early ignition needs more investigation.

가스터빈 연소기내 2차연료분사에 의한 연소 불안정성의 제어 (Control of Combustion Instabilities in a Gas Turbine Combustors Through Secondary Fuel Injection)

  • The results of study on the active control of naturally occurring combustion oscillations with a single dominant frequency in an atmospheric dump combustor are presented. Control was achieved by an oscillatory infection of secondary fuel at the dump plane. A high speed solenoid valve with a maximum frequency of 250Hz was used as the actuator and a sound level meter, located at the combustor exit, measured the pressure fluctuations which served as the feedback signal for the control loop. Instability characteristics were mapped over a range of mean mixing section velocities from 6.7 m/s-9.3 m/s and with three mixing conditions. Different fuel/air mixing conditions were investigated by introducing varying percentages of primary fuel at two locations, one at the entrance to the mixing section and one 6 mixing tube diameters upstream of the dump plane. Control studies were conducted at a mean velocity of 9.3 m/s, with an air temperature of $415^{\circ}C$, and from flame blowout to the stoichiometric condition.

  • This paper investigates the failure of a car with a 2.5-liter CRDi engine of the Hyundai Company. The failure is caused by intermittent poor acceleration while driving. To analyze the cause, we investigated the air intake volume, the fuel injection, and the air-fuel ratio, which were determined to be normal. The brake switch signal error was discovered while analyzing the function that limits the output of the engine. While investigating the cause, we discovered the corrosion of the pins on the connector of the brake switch. We determined that it was generated by soapy water flowing in the solar film. Therefore, the cause of the failure was the brake switch signal errors. Additionally, we determined that ECM was the normal fail-safe mode that implemented the override device for safety during normal acceleration. Based on these results, further solar film experiments must be conducted to fully elucidate the causes.

  • The effect of ambient gas (steam) condensation on swirl spray characteristics were studied experimentally for low subcooling condition of the liquid. The configuration of the liquid(water) sheet and the breakup modes were examined. Also variation of the discharge coefficient, breakup length, local and the cross-sectional area-averaged SMD of droplets with the liquid flow(injection) rate were obtained. The perforation breakup mode appears dominant with condensation while the aerodynamic wave breakup mode is dominant without condensation(in the air environment). The discharge coefficient, breakup length and the mean drop sizes decrease in a same manner with increasing of the liquid flow rate for both cases(with and without condensation). The condensation effects are insignificant with the discharge coefficient. However, the local and cross-sectional area-averaged SMD are larger and the breakup length becomes shorter in the steam environment. The spray angle predicted from the volumetric flux distribution along the radial direction of the sprays in the steam environment becomes larger with condensation.

가솔린 직접분사 엔진의 흡기과급이 성층화 연소에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Boosted Intake Pressure on Stratified Combustion of a Gasoline Direct Injection Engine)

  • The effects of pressure charge on combustion stability and emissions have been analyzed using a GDI single cylinder engine. A late injection mode of stratified condition at the air-fuel ratio of 40:1 for 1200∼2400 rpm was tested while the boosted pressure ratio was increased up to 1.5:1. In-cylinder CFD analysis was also performed for better understanding of in-cylinder flow and fuel spray behavior. With a higher boosted pressure ratio the IMEP was increased greatly due to the increased engine load, and the ISFC was improved by more than 10% at all engine speeds. The regime of stable stratified combustion was extended to a higher engine speed, but the spark ignition angle had to be more advanced for stable combustion. The emissions of ISHC and ISNOx did not show a particular trend for the increased engine speed but a general trend of lower ISHC and higher ISNOx for a gasoline engine.

  • Currently, due to the serious world-wide air pollution by substances emitted from vehicles, emission control is enforced more firmly and it is expected that the regulation requirements for emission will become more severe. Anew concept combustion technology that can reduce the NOx and PM in relation to combustion is urgently required. Due to such social requirement, technologically advanced countries are making efforts to develop an environment-friendly vehicle engine at the nation-wide level in order to respond to the reinforced emission control. As a core combustion technology among new combustion technologies for the next generation engine, the homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is expanding its application range by adopting multiple combustion mode, catalyst, direct fuel injection and partially premixed combustion. This study used a 2-staged injection method in order to apply the HCCI combustion method without significantly altering engine specifications in the aspect of multiple combustion mode and practicality by referring to the results of studies on the HCCI engine. And it is investigated that the effects of the engine rpm and load(or A/F) to emission characteristics.

A Dynamic Model of a Gas Engine-Driven Heat Pump in Cooling Mode for Real-Time Simulation

  • The present study has been conducted to simulate dynamics of a gas engine-driven heat pump (GHP) for the design of control algorithm. The dynamic model of a GHP was based on conservation laws of mass and energy. For the control of refrigerant pressures, actuators such as an engine throttle valve, outdoor fans, coolant three-way valves and liquid injection valves were controlled by P or PI algorithm. The simulation results were found to be realistic enough to be applied for the control algorithm design. The model could be applied to build a virtual real-time GHP system so that it interfaces with a real controller for the purpose of developing control algorithm.

The Analysis of Sulfur Compounds of Odorous Material in Kunsan Industrial Complex

  • In this study, we investigated the gas chromatography (GC) and pulsed flame photometric detection (PFPD) system for the analysis of four major reduced S compounds including hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S)$; methyl mercaptan ($CH_3SH$); dimethyl sulfide (DMS); and dimethyl disulfide(DMDS) contained in environmental samples. To analyze these compounds in high concentration range (above ppb level), we developed a high mode analytical setting with the loop-injection system. By contrast, we also established a low mode setting for the analysis of low concentration samples (ppt-level samples from ambient air) by the combination with thermal desorption unit(TDU). Comparative analysis of both settings revealed that relative detection properties of four S compounds are systematic enough. The results of high mode analysis indicated that the patterns were systematic among compounds: H2S exhibited the lowest sensitivity, while DMBS showed the strongest one. The results were also compared in terms of sensitivity reductions for all compounds by dividing slope ratios between low and high mode system. Although low mode system exhibited significant reductions on the order of a few tens times, their detection characteristics were highly consistent as it was shown in the high mode setting. To learn more about absolute and relative relations between two different modes of S analysis, future studies may have to be directed to cover more complicated nature of GC/PFPD performance. Hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) was over in summer about low level of olfactory sense 410 ppt, Methyl mercaptan(C$H_3SH$) was over in apring and summer about low level of olfactory sense 70, Dimethyl sulfide(DMS) was not over in four season about low level of olfactory sense 2,200 ppt. Carbon disulfide($CS_2$) was not over in four deason about Tow level of olfactory sense 210,000, Dimethyl disulfide(DMDS) was not over in summer about low level of olfactory sense2,000.

GC 분석 시스템의 설정과 그에 따른 감도의 차이: 열탈착 방식 대비 루프주입방식에 의한 황성분의 분석 (Changes in the gas chromatographic sensitivity with its analytical setting: Comparison of TDU and loop-injection system for the analysis of sulfur compounds)

  • 본 연구에서는 주요 환원황 화합물에 해당하는 4가지 황성분, $H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, DMDS을 이용하여, 이들의 주요 검출방법에 해당하는 GC/PFPD 방식의 검출특성을 대부분의 환경시료의 분석에 활용할 수 있는 두 가지 기준에서 비교 분석하였다. 우선 수 십 ppb 단위의 고농도 시료들에 대한 분석특성을 이해하기 위해, GC/PFPD에 루프주입장치를 결합한 고농도 모드 시스템을 구성하고, 이에 대한 평가를 시도하였다. 그리고 이에 대비하여, 열탈착 시스템을 연계한 저농도 모드 시스템을 이용하여, 환경대기와 같이 극단적으로 낮은 농도 (ppt 수준)로 존재하는 시료들의 분석기법을 평가하였다. 양 분석방식의 비교에 의하면, 개별 황성분들의 검출특성은 대단히 규칙적인 특성을 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 고농도모드를 이용한 비교결과에 의하면, 황화수소의 경우 가장 약한 감도를 보인 반면, 황원소를 두개 함유한 DMDS는 가장 민감한 감도를 보였다. 고농도 모드에 대비하여 저농도 모드의 감도를 비교할 경우, 감도가 수십 배 수준으로 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 양 방식의 뚜렷한 감도차이에도 불구하고, 선택한 모드에 상관없이 황성분들의 상대적인 검량특성은 비교적 규칙적인 경향성이 유지되는 것으로 나타났다. 이들 성분에 대한 정확한 검량을 위해서는 다양한 관점에서 검출특성을 정의하기 위한 노력이 수반되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.
