  • This study is intended to identify how quick disconnect coupling which connects with refrigerant piping of air-conditioner using R-22 refrigerant has effect on characteristics of flux. in the case where the air-conditioner installs utilizes quick disconnect coupling, COP has an effect on the quantity of cooling load because of changing flow rate and physical properties of refrigerant which flow into an entrance of expansion valve from coupling. Variation of flow rate can be regulated by changing expansion-contraction angle; $\alpha$ of an entrance and an exit of coupling. Evaluation of Apartment Cooling System by Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis (다기준 의사결정 분석에 의한 공동주택의 냉방시스템 평가)

  • In this study, 3 cooling systems of apartment which are air-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit, water-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit and small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU have been evaluated by Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis. Weights of 7 selected factors which are economics, space, billing, constructability, human comfort, visibility and reliability are determined by expert group of 30 system designers and 30 construction engineers. Final weights were derived for 101 and 166 $m^2$ apartments. Analysis shows that small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU is the most favorable system for apartment cooling system.

  • In this paper, the power factor correction (PFC) system for inverter air-conditioner that has not only good harmonic characteristics but also cost down-merit compared with the conventional inverter type is proposed. The detail design procedures to get cost-down merits are introduced. And it is shown that the PFC system performances also can be improved by the virtue of the stabilization of output voltage. The proto type system is implemented and tested to virify the additional good performances of the proposed system, and its simulation and experimental results are presented.

The Performance Evaluation of R407C and R410B in a Residential Window Air-Conditioner

  • This study presents test results of a residential window air-conditioner using R22 and two potential alternative refrigerants, R407C and R410B. A series of performance tests has been carried out for the basic and liquid-suction heat exchange cycles in a psychometric calorimeter test facility. For R407C, the same rotary compressor was used as in the R22 system. However, compressor for the R410B system was modified to provide the similar cooling capacity. The evaporator circuit was changed to get a counter-cross flow heat exchanger to take advantage of zeotropic mixture's temperature glide, and liquid-suction heat exchange cycle was also considered to improve the system performance. Test results were compared with those for the basic R22 system. The modified system with a liquid-suction heat exchanger increased cooling capacity and energy efficiency by up to 5%.

  • Capacities of a tandem-type air-conditioner may be modulated by turning on and off of multiple compressors, and adjusting the position of a electronic expansion valve. In this study, control algorithms for compressors and a electronic expansion valve were developed by using fuzzy logics. The pressure control algorithm was also developed for the safe operation of compressors. Performance Characteristics of a Drop-in System for a Mobile Air Conditioner Using Refrigerant R1234yf (냉매 R1234yf 적용 자동차용 에어컨 Drop-in 성능 특성)

  • In this study, the performance of mobile air conditioner(MAC) systems to which the refrigerants R134a and R1234yf were used was evaluated to compare the characteristic of automotive refrigeration cycles with refrigerant. The experimental setup of a MAC consists of an belt driven compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and a block type thermal expansion valve. The drop-in test on MAC were carried out under variable compressor speed from 800 to 2500 rpm. Performance test by using R1234yf and R134a in the same system revealed low the charge amount and mass flow rates for using R1234yf, that is, up to 10% and 17%, respectively. The compressor discharge temperature of R1234yf is $8^{\circ}C$ lower than that of R134a. The cooling capacity with R1234yf system decreased by 4~7% compared with R134a system. In addition, The COP of R1234yf system is lower 3~4% than that of R134a system.

Analysis of Misting Phenomenon in a Car (자동차 내부의 김 서림 현상에 관한 연구)

  • The mist on the inside of an automobile windshield is not only uncomfortable but also very dangerous because it obstructs the driver's vision. However, the removal process of the mist has never been studied in detail. This study performed experiments analyzing the mechanism causes the mist in a car and investigated the appropriate removal process. The experiments were performed on two rainy days, 10 April 2006 and 26 May 2006, with temperature and relative humidity sensors of testo-175-H2 and DICKSON-TK500. We found a passenger increased water vapor by 0.2 g $min^{-1}$ through respiration and thereby relative humidity (RH) from 55% to 67% in 8 minutes. Even though RH was not saturated, misting occurred because the humid air contacted the colder surface of the window. To remove the mist, it is necessary to increase the temperature or inflow drier air in the car. Therefore, we expected that the heater would be more effective than air conditioner for this matter. However, the outcome was the other way around due to the structure of the heating and cooling system in the car. When the air-conditioner was on, colder and drier air was generated and flowed through the so-called evaporator. Droplets were produced in the evaporator due to cooling procedure. When the heater was on, the warm air evaporated the droplets and increased the water content in the air resulting in an increase of relative humidity. Consequently, the air conditioner is more effective than the heater to remove the mist.

  • The purpose of this study was to reduce the airborne noise emitted from the package air-conditioner(PAC) therefore, the optimim design melthods of the fans and the flow-paths were investigated experimentally through the anlaysis of the nose problems caused by the conventional PAC system, and the fan performance tests and the systme resistance measurements of the parts which belong to the flow-paths of the PACwere used to study these noise problems. As a results, through the optimized flow-paths of the new PAC system with the lowset system resistance, and by adjusting and matching the operating point of each fan to each PAC system, the airborne noise reductions from the new indoor PAC and the outdoor one were achieved upto 5.5 dBA and 6.6 dBA respectively in overall noise level as compared with the conventional PAC system.

  • In this paper, we propose temperature inference system for indoor and outdoor temperature of the Air-Conditioner with limited sensors. The proposed system based on the network theory of biological immune system consists of indoor and outdoor temperature inference process. It is designed that on-line temperature inference is possible. This system is admirable for unlearned data as well as given input data by making efficient use of previous information.
