  • $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites can be applied as the dielectric materials for embedded capacitors. The effects of the degree of $BaTiO_3$ particle agglomeration on the dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites were investigated in the present study. The degree of particle agglomeration was controlled by the milling of the agglomerated particles. The size and content of the agglomerated $BaTiO_3$ particles decreased with an increase in the milling time. The dielectric constants and polarizations of $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites abruptly decreased with the increase of the milling time. It was concluded that the dielectric constants and polarizations of $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites decreased as the degree of particle agglomeration decreased. The degree of agglomeration of $BaTiO_3$ particles turned out to be a very influential factor on the dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites.

  • Diameter controlled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown using surface modified iron nano-particle catalysts with aminpropyltriethoxysilane (APS). Iron nano-particles were synthesized by thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl-oleic acid complex. Subsequently, APS modification was done using the iron nano-particles synthesized. Agglomeration of the iron nano-particles during the CNT growth process was effectively prevented by the surface modification of nano-particles with the APS. APS plays as a linker material between Fe nano-particles and $SiO_2$ substrate resulting in blocking the migration of nano-particles. APS also formed siliceous material covering the iron nano-particles that prevented the agglomeration of iron nano-particles at the early stages of the CNT growth. Therefore we could obtain the diameter controlled CNTs by blocking agglomeration of the iron nano-particles.

  • To introduce flux pinning center in HTS-BSCCO system, nano-size MgO particles were uniformly distributed within the Bi-2223 grain by partial hydration of MgO. The existing method MgO doped Bi-2223 used nato-size MgO powders, which resulted in agglomeration during mixing or grain growth during heat-treatment due to the high surface energy of the fine particles. By hydration of the MgO surface, the agglomeration of the MgO powders was avoided and the size of remaining MgO core was controlled by changing hydration medium and time. The thin film obtained by spin coating of (Bi_$1.8/Pb_{0.4}$)$Sr_2$$_{Ca}$$2.2/Cu_3$ $O_{y}$ nitrate solution mixed with hydrated MgO showed the even distribution of nano-size MgO particles in the Bi-2212 grains.s.s.

  • The preparation of Y-doped $SrZrO_3$powder by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis was investigated as a representative system, in order to produce fine, single phase multicomponent oxide powders. A precursor solution containing metal nitrates, citric acid and ethylene glycol was atomized glycol was atomized with an ultrasonic spray nozzle. Gel particles formed by organic functional groups were pyrolyzed and subsequently calcined at $800^{\circ}C$ to obtain well-crystallized, single perovskite phase. Most of large particles exhibited macroscopic pores and weak agglomeration between primary particles. However, strong agglomeration was observed in the surfaces of large particles. The effect of the microstructures of these particles on size reduction to submicron particles was described.

  • The use of nanotechnology materials and applications in the construction industry should be considered for enhancing material properties. However, the nonlinear buckling of an embedded straight concrete columns reinforced with silicon dioxide ($SiO_2$) nanoparticles is investigated in the present study. The column is simulated mathematically with Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam models. Agglomeration effects and the characteristics of the equivalent composite are determined using Mori-Tanaka approach. The foundation around the column is simulated with spring and shear layer. The governing equations are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used in order to obtain the buckling load of structure. The influences of volume percent of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, geometrical parameters and agglomeration on the buckling of column are investigated. Numerical results indicate that considering agglomeration effects leads to decrease in buckling load of structure.

  • Nano-Sized TiO$_2$ particles with diameter between 2 and 5 nm are synthesized in Water/Triton X-100/n-Hexane microemulsion. Particles show the amorphous structure and partially hydroxide form. The optical absorbance of particles appears at 250nm and band edge at 340nm. Gold metal is deposited on the surface of TiO$_2$ particles by reduction reaction of Au(III) ion with sodium hypophosphite. The size of gold-deposited particles is 20nm, and the optical absorbance appears at 270nm and at 550nm. So particles show the red color. The dense precipitation is formed by aggregation in the TiO$_2$ nano-sized particles of about 5nm size. But the bulky precipitation is formed by agglomeration phenomena in the gold-deposited particles of 20nm size. And also gold-deposited particles is easily dispersed by being re-dispersed in PEG/Water solution. This study has compared those things measuring the SPF characteristics of the cosmetics made of the synthesized particles. If the particle size is controlled appropriately, then the SPF value will be higher, or more colorless cosmetics will be made.

  • Monodispersed 3Y-$ZrO_2$ spherical agglomerates were synthesized by thermal hydrolysis process followed by crystallization processes (hydrothermal treatment and calcination). The crystallization process affected the properties of the final particles, such as the primary particle size, the agglomeration state, and the fraction of $ZrO_2$ monoclinic phase. The hydrothermal treated spherical particles were porous microstructures (weak agglomerates) composed of small primary particles with a size of 14 nm, but the calcined spherical particles had a dense microstructure due to the hard aggregation between primary particles. While the calcined particles had a low green density due to the hard aggregation, hydrothermal treated ones were soft agglomerates and had a deflection point at 50 MPa due to the rearrangement of secondary spherical particles and the filling of the interstices with the primary particles. Finally, the green density of hydrothermally treated $ZrO_2$ particles was 58% at 200 MPa.

  • Ultrafine particles have been widely used in many high technology industrial areas. The spherical nonagglomerated and uniform nanometer-size SiO$_2$particles are synthesized by the direct injection of TEOS(Tetraethyorthosilicate) using electro-hydrodynamic spraying method. Electro-hydrodynamic spraying can generate submicron-size TEOS droplets having high electric charges by applying a high electric field between the liquid injection nozzle and the reaction tube. These TEOS droplets are evaporated, and thermally decomposed or oxidized to produce nanometresized SiO$_2$particles in the reaction tube. Spherical, nonagglomerated and ultrafine particles are generated in various conditions and examined by using SEM and SMPS. As the total gas flow rate in the furnace changes from 1.5 lpm, the mean diameter of SiO$_2$particle decreases from 120 nm to 68 nm. The synthesized particle charging fractions are also investigated.

  • In order to develop a new line injection system for spin draw yarn (FD SDY) fibers, the effect of various parameters in extrusion and melt line conditions on the dispersion and distribution of $TiO_2$ particles within FD PET fibers was investigated. As a result, the dispersibility of $TiO_2$ particles in a PET matrix is found to depend on the particle size and its surface characteristics. Surface modification of $TiO_2$ by dimethyl polysiloxane resulted in the improved dispersibility and affinity of $TiO_2$ particles in the PET matrix. Especially, residence time, mixing temperature, and mixing shear rate in the new line injection system under the SDY spinning process were very important parameters to minimize the agglomeration of $TiO_2$ particles. The FD SDY prepared by the new line injection system was superior to those using the polymerization process and the conventional masterbatch chip dosing process in the color-L and color-b values of the fibers.

  • Tin oxide ($SnO_2$) nanoparticles have been synthesized by solution combustion method using citric acid as a fuel. The oxide to fuel ratio has been varied to obtain ultrafine nanoparticles with better surface area; such particles will be useful in many applications. With this synthesis method, spherical particles are formed having a particle size in the range of 11-30 nm and BET surface area of ~ $24m^2/g$. The degree of agglomeration of $SnO_2$ nanoparticles has been calculated.
