The Ministry of Environment of South Korea has launched its plan to establish the National Ecological Institute. An International Symposium and Workshop was held at Ewha Womans University in Seoul on Thursday, 30 September 2010, to strengthen international cooperation, networking and partnerships for the conservation of biodiversity. This symposium was attended by experts of many major institutions for biodiversity conservation from South Korea and overseas. At the symposium and workshop preceded by a keynote speech by the renowned primatologist and conservation biologist Jane Goodall the participants discussed a wide range of topics including "biodiversity conservation: in situ and ex situ approaches", "conservation of species diversity and ecosystem management", and "international cooperation for biodiversity conservation and research". As a basis for future discussions, this article summarizes how the National Ecological Institute might contribute most effectively to public life and environmental management in South Korea and worldwide. It addresses the following issues: governance and funding, synergies within Korea, participation in international networks, external advice, a broad view of ecological issues, research agenda, building on identity, public outreach, and training the next generation of scientists.

In recent years the construction sector has grown significantly in terms of investment and research on robotics and automation, yet it is still a low-tech and disjointed industry. One of the main scopes of this paper is to determine how robotic automation can provide the answers to the needs this industry has. To that end, an overall framework and development agenda of current technological innovation in the field has been outlined. Possible drawbacks and driving forces in the development of robots in the construction site have been identified. In addition, the review provides for state-of-the-art policies and regulations, as well as the short and medium-term outlook in different markets and countries. Ultimately, the forecast impact on traditional processes, construction sites, emerging technologies and related professions has been summarized in order to delineate prospective repercussions and future directions towards self-sufficiency.

Environmental matters are one of key issues of today's world. At this point, advanced countries are proposing and planning various kinds of policies for sustainable communities. Space designers in those countries are more concerned with regeneration or slow development than development and innovation. As the new government of Korea was started in 2008, it announced 'design Korea project' as key agenda for national competitiveness. But it seems that they are focusing on development of new town than the concept of preservation or regeneration on which most advanced countries put their bases. In these regards, this research starts with the idea that environmental factor in space design is very important and it is directly connected with human survival. With this idea, the researching team created experimental space titled 'regeneration' as one of eco-friendly education program. The team aimed at building up or 'designing one man space-one to one ratio' in deserted place with recycled stuffs. With the idea of 'regeneration' in space, the researcher aims at awakening the sense of environment and putting it into practice in daily living.

Data integration technology is one of the key elements in building data warehouses or big data, and is used to combine data from multiple sources and provide an integrated view to users. Traditionally, the performance of data integration uses a handed-code approach or a tool-based approach that utilizes data integration tools such as ETL. There is a debate about which methods are efficient. This study is conducted to give practitioners preparing for a data integration project an insight into how to perform data integration. This paper examines the views of experts on the controversy over the adoption of ETL tools that have been on the agenda of the data integration area for over a decade.

This research aims to find the issues and explore policy agenda of contributed acceptance of urban renewal project. Through the analysis of urban renewal project in Seoul, three isssues was found as follows. Firstly, the ratio of contributed acceptance in each district was quite different. Secondly, the donated land was scattered around whole project area. Thirdly, infrastructures are not constructed until all renewal projects were implemented. For this issues, this research proposed that a proper standard of the ratio of contributed acceptance is needed and land donation should be designated to adjacent lot or block. Also public support should be for developing urban capacity and completing infrastructure.

This study focuses on citizen-driven regional agenda and improvement projects, with a specific emphasis on the Yokohama Shimin Machi-bushin Project. The research aims to categorize the scope of citizens' thoughts and the objects for improvement, shedding light on the Analysis Methodologies of citizen-driven proposals for living environment improvement. It also highlights the diverse factors influencing citizens' perceptions of regional issues and the different approaches to addressing them. The paper discusses potential challenges and obstacles in implementing citizen-driven initiatives for community improvement and suggests ways to address them effectively. Overall, the study underscores the significance of citizen participation in community development and the need to understand their perspectives and thought processes in proposing and implementing community improvement initiatives.

According to the importance of greenhouse gas emissions, it grows day by day, the goverment is promoting to prepare the specific policy implementation to enhance building energy-saving design standars as the development agenda. In this study, the statistical analysis was performed by Descriptive statistics, Regression analysis, and Hypothesis testing to collect to generate and storage energy usage data in real time to settle parameter setting to affect energy consumption under energy-guzzling apartment not single building. This study is expected to be utilized as the basis for the optimum energy-saving design of the future of the building or facility energy costs rise and the demand for energy-efficient and stable management.

As the energy saving issues become one of the important global agenda, the building simulation method is generally used to predict the inside energy usage to establish the power-saving strategies. To foretell an accurate energy usage of a building, proper and typical weather data are needed. For this reason, typical weather data are fundamental in building energy simulations and among the meteorological factors, the solar irradiation is the most important element. Therefore, preparing solar irradiation is a basic factor. However, there are few places where the horizontal solar radiation in domestic weather stations can be measured, so the prediction of the solar radiation is needed to arrive at typical weather data. In this paper, four solar radiation prediction models were analyzed in terms of their applicability for domestic weather conditions. A total of 12 regions were analyzed to compare the differences of solar irradiation between measurements and the prediction results. The applicability of the solar irradiation prediction model for a certain region was determined by the comparisons. The results were that the Zhang and Huang model showed the highest accuracy (Rad 0.87~0.80) in most of the analyzed regions. The Kasten model which utilizes a simple regression equation exhibited the second-highest accuracy. The Angstrom-Prescott model is easily used, also by employing a plain regression equation Lastly, the Winslow model which is known for predicting global horizontal solar irradiation at any climate regions uses a daily integration equation and showed a low accuracy regarding the domestic climate conditions in Korea.

Home health care system in Korea has been classified into three types of home care programs based on different laws and regulations; for example, home health care nursing(HHCN) is based on medical laws, visiting health care nursing (VHCN) is based on long-term health care insurance, and visiting health care(VHC) is based on the regional health care act. HHCN in Korea has taken on an important role under the mandate of the national health care system since 2000. VHCN will commence its role under the long term health care insurance system in 2008. The strengthening of VHC commanded health promotion and prevention for vulnerable families in the community in 2007. This is an important turning point for increasing quality management for home health care program; it suggests certain possibilities for building a foundation for further changes in the service delivery structure. Accordingly, the home health care policy makers in Korea have a major function and role that consists of developing an agenda and alternatives for policy making in a systematic manner and clearly presenting implementation strategies for elderly health care system.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the directions for building national digital archiving strategies. This present paper begins with surveying S&T information resources especially in public sector, and analyse the priority criteria for appraising and selecting the resources for long-term preservation. Emphasis is placed on identifying the critical tasks for each type of resources including scientific data, technical reports, theses, journal, web, e-prints, etc. and some levels of organizations in the national digital archiving framework. Based on the analysis, it suggests some strategic agenda for developing national digital archiving system.
