  • Novel green long persistent phosphors of $CaZrO_3$ : $HO_{3+}$ have been synthesized at high temperature with weak reduction atmosphere by traditional solid state reaction method. The role of $H_3BO_3$ as flux and the suitable concentration of Ho as activator on the $CaZrO_3$ : $HO_{3+}$ long persistent phosphors has been investigated. Crystals of $HO_{3+}$ doped $CaZrO_3$ long persistent phosphores were characterized by fluorescence spectrophotometer and photoluminescence (PL). The main emission spectra of 546 nm peak was revealed through synthesizing at high temperature in $N_2$ gas atmosphere. The after glow emission spectra of $CaZrO_3$ : $HO_{3+}$ long persistent phosphores arise at 546 nm peak of narrow range. because that revealed pure green color. Green long persistent phosphors have been observed in the system for over 5 h after UV irradiation (254 nm). The main emission peak was ascribed to $HO_{3+}$ ions transition from $^5F_4$, $^5S_2{\to}^5I_3$, and the after glow may be ascribed to the trap centers in the $CaZrO_3$ host lattice.

  • The electrolyte cathode glow discharge (ELCAD) is a new optical system for direct determination of trace heavy metals in flowing water. ELCAD has been successfully developed for on-line monitoring of heavy metals in flowing water. The application of an atmospheric glow discharge between an electrolyte solution cathode and a platinum rod anode led to the development of stable discharge. The fundamental aspects of new plasma source have been investigated. The fundamental study of ELCAD system has been measured plasma temperature using Einstein-Boltzmann equation after searching Fe atomic emission lines. The spectrum of each elements such as Cu, Pb, Fe, Ni and Cr show only major elemental line and no ionic line possibly due to low temperature plasma source. The detection limits of each elements are also investigated. These informations show that this type of plasma may apply for monitoring of heavy metals in waste water which consists of complex matrix.

  • Cleaning effect of RF/DC discharge to clean the surface of vacuum chamber was studied for various discharge conditions. Glow discharge cleaning without baking reduced the outgassing rate to 1/2, which was similar to that after the only baking treatment alone. Glow discharge cleaning treatment with baking improved the cleaning efficiency and then the outgassing rate was remarkably reduced to 1/20. It was found that the ion energy and the ion density were important factors in cleaning the surface. RF discharge cleaning was more effective than BC discharge cleaning.

  • [ $CaSO_4$ ] thermoluminescent phosphors was made by sintring the $CaSO_4$ after doping the transition elements Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr. The maximum Peaks are found in the measured $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr) TL glow curve at $130^{\circ}C,\;110^{\circ}C,\;140^{\circ}C,\;100^{\circ}C$, and $120^{\circ}C$ when the heating rate is $5^{\circ}C/sec$. The activation energy of the main peak has been estimated by the peak shape method. The estimated activation energies are 1.02eV, 1.32eV, 1.12eV, 0.80eV, and 1.17eV, respectively. The thermoluminescence process in $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr)are found to the 2nd order when the main peak of the glow curve is analyzed by peak shape method. The dose responses of $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr) phosphors are linear within $4{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}1Gy$ of X-rays.

  • Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) analyses were conducted for the detection of different gamma-irradiated dried fishes (mussel, squid, beka squid, mitra squid, plaice, and saury) at 0, 1, 5 and 10 kGy. For TL analysis, the contaminating silicate minerals were obtained by density separation or acid hydrolysis treatment. PSL determinations indicated that all the non-irradiated samples showed PSL photon counts/60 s (PCs) lower than 700 PCs (negative), but the irradiated mussel sample at 5 and 10 kGy were only possibility identified showing higher than 5000 PCs (positive). Irrespective of sample kinds and methods of mineral separation, all the non-irradiated samples showed TL glow curves in low-intensity with a maximum peak only after $250^{\circ}C$. However, all the irradiated samples produced TL glow curves in high intensity with a maximum peak particularly in the temperature range of 1$150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. In conclusion, more distinguishable TL results [glow curve, TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$)] were obtained from the marker minerals separated by acid hydrolysis rather than density method.

  • The thermoluminescence(TL) glow curves and the optical absorption of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray, electron, and $Li^{+}$ ion followed by electron irradiation have been investigated to determine the relation of TL peak to its defect type. The TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray shows TL peaks at 380 K, 415 K, and 475 K. The UV photobleached TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ irradiated with ${\gamma}$-ray shows that the 380 K and 475 K TL peaks completely disappear while the 415 K TL peak still exists. The electron beam induced TL glow curve of $Al_2O_3$ after $Li^{+}$ ion implantation shows that the TL peak at 440 K is enhanced by a factor of 2 over the TL intensity of unimplanted $Al_2O_3$ while the TL peak at 380 K evidently disappears The implanted $Li^{+}$ ions are assumed to form singly charged interstitial cations and then recombine with electron trapped in F centers to produce F+ centers. The 380 K and 475 K TL peaks are proposed to be associated with F center, while the 415 K and 440 K TL peak are connected with F$^{+}$ center.

  • The verification of irradiation treatments, using dried garlic and cabbage treated at 0-20 kGy, was investigated by analyzing the photostimulated luminescence (PSL), electron spin resonance (ESR) and thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of the samples. The PSL results showed that the photon counts/60 sec of the non-irradiated dried garlic and cabbage were 287-337, corresponding to negative, while those of the irradiated samples were 7511-54063 photon counts/ 60 sec, corresponding to positive, making it possible to discriminate the non-irradiated from the irradiated samples. In ESR analysis, the dried garlic irradiated at 20 kGy exhibited cellulose radicals, whereas the irradiated dried cabbage showed crystalline sugar-induced multi-component signals, which were not found in the non-irradiated samples. The ESR signal intensity significantly increased as the irradiation dose increase ($R^2$= 0.9369 - 0.9926). The TL glow curves of the irradiated samples appeared at a temperature interval of 150-250, which were significantly different from those of non-irradiated samples, showing a significant increase in TL signal intensity with irradiation dose ($R^2$= 0.9670 - 0.9768). To enhance the reliability of the results, the first glow curve ($TL_1$) was compared with the second glow curve ($TL_2$) obtained after a re-irradiation step at 1 kGy. The TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$) was in good agreement with the reported TL threshold values for both the non-irradiated (<0.1) and irradiated (> 0.1) samples.

  • Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) analyses were conducted for the detection of different irradiated dried fishes. All the non-irradiated samples provided PSL counts of lower than 700 (negative: $T_1$). Clear identification of irradiated sample was only possible for irradiated anchovy with PSL counts >5000; however, the results were unsatisfactory (not positive) for irradiated cod, dried filefish, hairtail, and herring samples. The contaminating silicate minerals were obtained by density separation or acid hydrolysis to perform TL analysis, which resulted in a low intensity of TL glow curve with a maximum peak after $250^{\circ}C$ for the non-irradiated samples that are irrespective of their kinds and methods for the mineral separation. The TL glow curves of high intensity with maximum peak in the temperature range of $150-250^{\circ}C$ were observed for all the irradiated samples. However, better results of TL glow curves and particularly of the TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$) were obtained when the minerals were separated by a acid hydrolysis method.

  • In this paper, we determined the scintillation and thermoluminescence properties of $Cs_2NaCeBr_6$ elpasolite scintillation crystal. The emission spectrum of $Cs_2NaCeBr_6$ is located in the range of 300 ~ 450 nm, peaking at 377 nm and 400 nm. And, the fluorescence decay time of the crystal is composed two components. The fast component is 140 ns (94%), and the slow component is 880 ns (6%) of the crystal. The after-glow is caused by the electron and hole traps in the crystal lattices. We determined thermoluminescence parameters of the traps in the crystal. The determined activation energy(E), kinetic order and frequency factor of the traps are 0.67 eV, 1.71 and $2.51{\times}10^8s^{-1}$ respectively. In this crystal, re-combination rate is more dominant phenomenon than the re-trapping rate.

  • TSEE and TSL phenomena have been measured for ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ single crystals by the use of the $2{\pi}$ proportional counter. The ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals irradiated to X-ray and UV for the temperature range from room temperature to about 500k degree. Three peaks of TSEE and three peaks of TSL were observed after X-ray irradiation. Also, two peaks of TSEE and three TSL peaks were observed after UV irradiation. TSEE and TSL glow curves of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ single crystals showed very similar to the peaks position regardless of excitation sorts. Form this work, we knew that the $2{\pi}$ proportional counter is useful to not only the energy spectrum analysis device of ${\alpha}$-particle, but also the measurement instrument of TSEE and TSL.
