Yield response of 30 rice varieties widely grown during the past 70 years in Korea was examined at the six transplanting dates from May 10 to June 29 at the 10 day intervals in 1982. Early japonica varieties grown before 1960s showed the highest yield at the June 9 and 19 transplantings and yields decreased with earlier or later transplantings except the earliest transplanting of May 10. However, yield of recent japonica varieties grown after 1960s was similar among the transplanting dates from May 10 to June 19, but yield was lower at the June 29 transplanting. In the indica/japonica varieties grown after mid- 1970s, yield was highest at the May 10, 20, and 30 transplantings and it decreased with further delay of transplantings largely due to the decreased panicle number, percent ripened grains, and 1,000 grain weight. This may indicate that recently developed varieties may be more adaptable toearly transplanting than older varieties. The number of panicles per hill was variable among the transplanting dates in all varieties, but it decreased as transplanting dates delayed after June 9. In japonica varieties the number of spikelets per panicle, percent ripened grains, and 1,000 grain weight increased as transplanting was delayed. However, in indica/japonica varieties the number of spikelets per panicle was similar among the transplanting dates and percent ripened grains and 1,000 grain weight decreased as transplanting date was delayed after June 9. The percent ripened grains of japonica varieties decreased with increase in the number of spikelets per hill but increased as heading date delayed. However, in indica/japonica varieties the percent ripened grains was not affected by both the number of spikelets per hill and heading date except that of June 29 transplanting of which percent ripened grains was extremely low because of delayed heading although the number of spikelets per hill was low. Grain/Straw ratio was not affected by heading date in japonica varieties, but it decreased significantly as heading date was delayed in indica/japonica varieties.
Differences in need occurrence and competition were investigated among five types of rice(Oryza sativa L.) cultivation. Dry weights of weeds in between transplanting and/or seeding and heading date showed in the decreasing order of dry direct-seeded, flood direct-seeded, machine transplanting with 10-day-old seedling, machine transplanting with 30-day-old seedling, and conventional hand transplanting. A similar trend was obtained with application of weedy followed by weed-free. Weed-free periods allowed to decrease by 20% dry weight of rice were 3 weeks after transplanting(WAT) in transplanting cultivations, 5 weeks after seeding(WAS) in wet direct-seeded rice, and 7-8 WAS in dry direct-seeded rice. On the other hand, weedy periods as determined by the same criterion were 9 WAT in conventional hand transplanting and machine transplanting with 30-day-old seedling, 7 WAT in machine transplanting with 10-day-old seedling, 8 WAS in dry direct-seeded rice, and 6 WAS in flood direct-seeded rice.
To study the effects of different nursing methods and transplanting on the growth of the rice plant(Oriza sativa L.hn southern region of Korea, Kumo-byeo, Palgong-byeo and Dong-jinbyeo were transplanted from April 20 to July 20 with 15 days intervals as 8 days seedling (infant rice), 25 days box seedling for machine transplanting and 45 days conventional seedling, respectively. No. of leaves at transplanting were in order of 45 days seedling>25 days seedling>8 days seedling. In 25 days seedling, they were increased as transplanting dates were later from April 20 to June 5, and in 45 days seedling, it showed same tendency until June 5 with Dongjinbyeo, June 20 with Palgong-byeo and Kumo-byeo. Root activity according to the $\alpha$-naphthylamine oxidation activity and rooting activity were higher in order of 8 days seedling>25 days seedling>45days seedling. Panicle formation initiated after maximum tillering stage as transplanting at April 20 with 8 days seedling and 25 days seedling, but it intiated before maximum tillering stage as transplanting at July 20 in Kumo-byeo. and in Palgong-byeo intiations of panicle formation were shown after maximum tillering stage as transplanting until May 20, but June 5 in Dongjin-byeo. However, there was no significant tendency with 45 days seedling. Missing hill ratio were less than 5% as transplanting with 8 days seedling and 25 days seedlingregardless of transplanting periods or varieties.

This study aims at detecting the three dimensional gripping points for the transplanting robot system to grip in the process of developing transplanting robot system, which is one of the automation systems for transplanting tissue culture. The stereo vision system equipped with two cameras has been used to detect the gripping points of the plant stem. The method for matching the plants of the image information which came from two cameras was to measure the total numbers of pixels, leaves, and the heights of the plants. The gripping points were detected near the roots after extracting the stem parts by the standard deviation of the X axis according to the Y axis. The performance test of the developed program showed that the detecting errors of the gripping points were 0∼1mm for X axis and 1∼2mm for Y & Z axis. The mean running time of the program was about 3 seconds.
This study was conducted to obtain basic information of growth, chlorophyll, and $Na^+\;and\;K^+$ content of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings after transplanting in different NaCl conditions. Plants grown in pots for 8 days after germination were grown for 10 days after transplanting in 50 and 100 mM NaCl concentrations. At higher NaCl concentration, plant height, root length, dry weight and chlorophyll content were reduced with NaCl stress. Among rice cultivars, the shoot dry weight of Gancheokbyeo, Janganbyeo and Hwasungbyeo, and the root dry weight of Janganbyeo, Gancheokbyeo and Juanbyeo showed relatively low reduction compared to the other rice cultivars at 100 mM NaCl stress. The $Na^+$ content in seedling rapidly increased with the increase of NaCl concentration but $K^+$ contents decreased. There was a significant relationship between $Na^+$ content and shoot and root dry weight after transplanting rice seedlings to saline conditions. The shoot and root dry weight showed highly negative relationship with the $Na^+/K^+$ ratio in saline conditions.

To make a new fairy ring of Tricholoma matsutake in situ, the way of production and transplanting of ectomycorrhizal seedlings of T. matsutake using Pinus densiflora was investigated after transplanting from 2000 to 2005 as well as the method to improve their survival rate for the fungus. For the production of ectomycorrhizal pine seedlings, the seedlings planted at the edge of fairy ring of T. matsutake in November showed 97% of the survival rate, while those planted in April showed 80% of the rate. For the complete infection of the T. matsutake, it required more than two years after planting. The infection rate of mycelia for the ectomycorrhizal seedlings was 17.6% when the natural seedlings were used, whereas it was relatively low when the seedlings prepared from the nursery were used. The survival of T. matsutake mycelium reached up to 22% by the transplanting in April, while the mycelium transplanted in October and November showed less than 5% of the survival. The survival of T. matsutake on the transplanted seedlings was the highest in the seedlings having 50% of infection rate before transplanting. Excavation of the ectomycorrhizal seedling to examine the vitality of ectomycorrhizal roots of T. matsutake resulted in the perishing of them. Therefore, the method using a 'rice bag triers' to check living mycelium of T. matsutake without digging of transplanted seedlings was introduced in this study. In addition, it is recommended that the examination has to be conducted at least two years after transplanting.
Effect of the amount of fertilizer, plant density, and harvesting time on the production of tobacco leaf protein and fresh biomass was investigated. Flue-cured tobacco(M tabacum, L., cv. NC 82) seedlings were transplanted in the field dressed 200kg N per ha at 1$\times$105, 3$\times$105, 5$\times$105, 7$\times$105 plants per ha, and were harvested at the time when 6 and 10 weeks after transplanting, respectively. Harvest at 10 weeks after transplanting increased greatly number of leaves per plant and fresh weight of a plant, Precentage of senescent leaf weight, but significantly decreased fresh weight of a leaf and total protein contents g-1 fresh weight of leaf and stalk over the amount obtained from the harvest at 6 weeks after transplanting. Also, fresh leaf numbers of a plant, fresh weight of a leaf and of a plant, and total protein contents g-1 fresh weight of biomass were more decreased, but percentage of senescent leaf weight were remarkably increased under higher plant density. Therefore, it was seemed that harvesting at 6 weeks after transplanting under 1$\times$105 plant density per ha is more effective for producing higher yield of biomass and protein per plant than 10 weeks harvesting with 7$\times$105 population per ha. A trend was observed that biomass and protein yields per ha are positively correlated with plant population. Biomass yield per ha was the greatest at 7$\times$105 density(80.5t), but the peak of protein yield was at the near of 5$\times$105 population(2454kg as total protein) per ha on the regression curve. It was assumed that if tobacco plants are transplanted under 5$\times$105 plant density at the mid of May, and thereafter harvest at 6 weeks repeatedly during the growing season, it is possible to harvest 2~3 times per year, and to yield more 6.024kg of protein and over 140me1ric tons of fresh biomass ha 1 year 1 statistically in the korea tobacco growing regions.
This research was conducted to determine the plant growth and nutrient contents of potted chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey' as influenced by application rate of dolomite in three root media, peatmoss+vermiculite (1:1, v/v), peatmoss+composted rice hall (1:1, v/v), and peatmoss+composted pine bark (1:1, v/v). All root media contained polyacrylic acid sodium salt (PASS) at a rate of $4.5g L^{-1}$. In crop growth at 40 and 80 days after transplanting, elevated application rates of dolomite up to $6.0g L^{-1}$ in three root media increased fresh and dry weights per plant. But the treatment of $9.0g L^{-1}$ had less fresh and dry weights than those of $6.0g L^{-1}$. Tissue phosphorus content decreased and those of Ca and Mg increased by the elevated application rates of dolomite. Elevated application rates of dolomite in three root media resulted in the increase of pH, EC, and the concentrations of K, Ca, and Mg at 43 days after transplanting. Those at 80 days after transplanting were also increased, but the differences among treatments were less significant as compared to those at 43 days after transplanting. From the results of dry weight in potted chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey', the proper application rate of dolomite to three root media containing PASS at a rate of $4.5g L^{-1}$ were $6.0g L^{-1}$.
This study aimed to estimate control thresholds for managing common cutworm, Spodoptera litura Faricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) at different larval densities and growth stages of Chinese cabbage in field conditions. The percent yield reduction (Y) of Chinese cabbage infested by different densities of S. litura (X, no. of larvae/100 plants) for three weeks were estimated by Y=-21.85X+1300 (R2=0.997) 5 days after transplanting and Y=-12.1X+1382 (R2=0.998) 20 days after transplanting. Based on the relationships between the densities of S. litura larvae and the yield index of chinese cabbage, the number of larvae (2nd to 3rd instar) which caused 5% loss of yield was estimated as 2.9/100 plants 5 days after transplanting, and 5.6/100 plants 20 days after transplanting.
Effects of DIF on stem elongation in plug seedlings of mini tomato ‘Mini Carol’ and on the growth and flowering after transplanting were investigated. Stem elongation of seedlings was mainly influenced by day temperature rather than night temperature. When the effect of +DIF was compared to that of -DIF under the same average daily temperature(ADT), day temperature had greater impact on internode elongation than night temperature. On the other hand, leaf unfolding rate increased and compactness decreased as ADT in creased. Differences in internode length affected by DIF during seedlings stage DIF progressively diminished during growth period after transplanting. Node position at which first flower was initiated was lowered as ADT decreased. It was concluded that DIF treatment was an applicable tool for control of stem elongation, particularly to reduce stem length without a noticeably adverse effect on the growth and development of plant after transplanting.
