The change of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) activity during regeneration of rat liver was studied. Cytosolic, mitochondrial and microsomal COMTs activities were estimated in regenerating rat livers over a period of ten days after $70\%$ (median and left lateral lobes) partial hepatectomy. The values of Km and Vmax in the hepatic enzymes were also measured. The activities of cytosolic and microsomal COMTs in regenerating rat liver after partial hepatectomy were found to be significantly increased between the second and the third day. Whereas the mitochondrial COMT activity did not change. The Vmax values of the cytosolic and microsomal COMTs in the regenerating rat liver were significantly increased at the second day after partial hepatectomy, however, the Km values of the above hepatic enzymes did not vary in all the experimental groups. Therefore, the results suggest that the biosynthesis of COMT was increased during the regeneration of rat liver.
Several complications are possible after a lumbar epidural block. However pneumocephalus are rare. In this case, we report a case of pneumocephalus. A 68-year-old male patient received lumbar epidural block with the loss of resistance technique using air, and after 35 minutes, apnea, unconsciousness, hypotension, and bradycardia occurred. Immediately, brain CT was done, and we found pneumocephalus. The patient complained of severe occipital headache and itchiness due to pneumocehalus. After conservative treatment, the patient recovered without neurologic complications, and on the seventh day of his hospitalization, he was discharged from the hospital.
The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to measure the life satisfaction of after-school classes. For this purpose, utilizing the theoretical background and the findings of previous studies, 147 questions from eight factors were selected for the 1st draft and 67 questions were selected for the 2nd draft by reviewing the validity of the contents after consulting with eleven professionals. A preparatory survey and factor analysis was then conducted using 291 people and a total of 32 questions were extracted from four sub-factors. Exploratory factor analysis by principal component analysis was conducted and orthogonal rotation was conducted by means of the VARIMAX method. The reliability of the class environment, operation management, program and teacher relationship sector were found to be very high. It is suggested that this study can be of great benefit in developing a child-centered scale and it's reliability was also found to be high.
We experienced a rare case of erection failure which developed after unilateral lumbar sympathetic block. A 43 year old male patient suffering from reflex sympathetic dystrophy, which had developed after multiple communitted fracture of the right ankle, underwent right lumbar sympathetic block with 99.9% alcohol. The effectiveness of the lumbar sympathetic block was evaluated by monitoring the clinical symptoms, signs and temperature changes by digital infrared thermographic imaging. Postoperatively, the temperature of the affected side limb rose about $2^{\circ}C$, but the patient's conditions gradually returned to normal. Ten days after the operation the patient complainted of difficulty in achieving an erection. The patient was examined by a urologst without much results. The patient gradually recovered his ability to achieve an erection approximately 5 weeks after the lumbar sympathetic block.
In this paper, we investigate two types of in-phase and quadrature-phase (IQ) data transfer methods for cloud multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network operation. They are termed "after-precoding" and "before-precoding". We formulate a cloud massive MIMO operation problem that aims at selecting the best IQ data transfer method and transmission strategy (beamforming technique, the number of concurrently receiving users, the number of used antennas for transmission) to maximize the ergodic sum-rate under a limited capacity of the digital unit-radio unit link. Based on our proposed solution, the optimal numbers of users and antennas are simultaneously chosen. Numerical results confirm that the sum-rate gain is greater when adaptive "after/before-precoding" method is available than when only conventional "after-precoding" IQ-data transfer is available.
Background: Patients with chronic ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenia) frequently do not require comprehensive medication for daily life. Usually, it had been regarded that postoperative bleeding after a simple or surgical extraction is easily controlled by simple local measures even in patients with ITP. This lack of regular medication usage can sometimes lead practitioners or patients to underestimate the potential life-threatening risk of ITP. There had been no report on postoperative hemorrhage in a patient with ITP related to dental implant surgery. Case presentation: This report presented a life-threatening postoperative hemorrhage after dental implant surgery in an adult with chronic ITP and subsequent emergency management after severe bleeding and airway compromise. Conclusion: The presented case emphasizes the thorough hematological evaluation of the patients even for patients who do not take any specific medications for asymptomatic, chronic ITP.
Paresthesia is an altered sensation of the skin, manifesting as numbness, partial loss of local sensitivity, burning, or tingling. The inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is the third branch of the trigeminal nerve and is very important in dental treatment. IAN paresthesia may occur after various dental procedures such as simple anesthetic injections, surgical procedures, and endodontic treatment, and is reported to range from 0.35% to 8.4%. The altered sensation usually follows immediately after the procedure, and reports of late onset of nerve involvement are rare. This report presents a rare case of delayed paresthesia after dental surgery and discusses the pathophysiology of IAN delayed paresthesia.
Moyamoya disease (MMD) is characterized by progressive steno-occlusive lesions of the distal or proximal branch of the internal carotid arteries, and cerebrovascular symptoms are its major complications. Extracranial vascular involvement including the coronary artery has been reported, and some case reports have described variant angina or myocardial infarction. However, no report has yet described a case of myocardial infarction after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Here, we present a patient with MMD who suffered cardiac arrest caused by myocardial infarction due to a coronary spasm after offpump CABG and who was discharged successfully after treatment with a veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenator and percutaneous coronary intervention.

Pituitary apoplexy is a rare but potentially life-threatening clinical syndrome caused by the sudden enlargement of a pituitary adenoma secondary to hemorrhage or infarction. Pituitary apoplexy after cardiac surgery is a very rare perioperative complication. Factors associated with open heart surgery that may lead to pituitary apoplexy include hemodynamic instability during cardiopulmonary bypass and systemic heparinization. We report a case of pituitary apoplexy after mitral valvuloplasty with cardiopulmonary bypass. After early pituitary tumor resection and hormonal replacement therapy, the patient made a full recovery.

The present study researched the development of a mixed-age after school program with a focus on the facilitation of emotional intelligence for low SES children. The model program was based on the Mayer and Salovey (1997) theory of emotional intelligence. Activities for 17 sessions were constructed on the basis of 43 objectives. The program was implemented with 53 children in the after school program classes of one elementary school in Kyuggi Province for 6 months. Participants were from low SES families, grouped into 3 mixed-age (K-3rd grade level) classes. Evaluation of the program showed positive effects on the development of children's emotional intelligence. Validity and appropriateness were discussed.
