수원지역 분진의 입경별 이온성분 분포특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of Ionic Components in Size-resolved Particulate Matters in Suwon Area)

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate air quality trends of ambient aerosol with obtaining size-fractionated information. The suspended particulate matters were continuously collected on membrane filters and glass fiber filters by an 8-stage cascade impactor for 2 years (Sep. 2005 $\sim$ Sep. 2007) in Kyung Hee University-Global Campus. 8 ionic species ($Na^+$, ${NH_4}^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, ${NO_3}^-$, and ${SO_4}^{2-}$) were analyzed by an IC after performing proper pretreatments of each sample filter. The average concentration levels of each ion were $9.24{\mu}g/m^3$ of ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $7.35{\mu}g/m^3$ of ${NO_3}^-$, $2.81{\mu}g/m^3$ of ${NH_4}^+$, $2.11{\mu}g/m^3$ of $Ca^{2+}$, $1.65{\mu}g/m^3$ of $Cl^-$, $1.87{\mu}g/m^3$ of $Na^+$, $0.80{\mu}g/m^3$ of $Mg^{2+}$, and $0.54{\mu}g/m^3$ of $K^+$, respectively. The distribution pattern of $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, and ${NO_3}^-$ was bi-modal and two peaks appeared in the range of $0.4{\sim}0.7{\mu}m$ and $3.3{\sim}4.7{\mu}m$, respectively. On the other hand, ${SO_4}^{2-}$, ${NH_4}^+$, and $K^+$ showed patterns of uni-modal distribution, mostly abounded in the fine mode group.

산성강하물의 침착량과 동태 해명에 관한 연구 - 필터팩을 이용한 춘천과 서울의 건성강하물의 농도 측정 (A Study on the Behavior and Deposition of Acid Precipitation-Measurement of Dry Deposition in Chunchon and Seoul by Using Filter Pack Method)

  • Acid aerosol and gas concentrations ($SO_4^{2-}$, $NO_3^-$, $HNO_3$, $SO_2$, and $NH_3$) were measured at Chunchon and Seoul, Korea using filter pack method during one year from October 1996 to september 1997. The samples were collected during 24 hours every Wednesday in a week from 10 A.M. with 10$\ell$/min of sample flow. Concentration of $HNO_3$, $SO_2$ and $NH_3$ gases showed typical seasonal variation. The $HNO_3$ showed the highest in summer and annual mean concentrations were 0.42 ppb and 0.57 ppb at Chunchon and Seoul, respectively. The $SO_2$ showed the highest in winter and annual mean concentration was 5.59 ppb at Chunchon. The $NH_3$ showed the highest in early summer and annual mean concentration were 5.15 ppb and 6.28 ppb at Chunchon and Seoul, respectively.

Spectroscopic Properties of Quercetin-3-O-rhamnoside and Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside in Aerosol-OT Reverse Micelles

  • The anomalous spectroscopic properties of quercetin-3-O-rhamnoside (QCRM) and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (QCRT) in AOT reverse micelle were studied. The excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) occurs through the strong hydrogen bond between the -OH at position 5 and the carbonyl oxygen. Because the ESIPT can only happens in the $S_1$ state and the Franck-Condon factor involved in the $S_2\;{\rightarrow}\;S_1$ internal conversion is small, the $S_2\;{\rightarrow}\;S_o$ emission alone appears. Because the molecular planarity is improved at the interior of the micelle, the excited state intramolecular charge transfer in the $S_1$ state is extended, and the excited state is more tolerable for any quenching effects in the micelle. Therefore, an $S_1\;{\rightarrow}\;S_o$ emission was newly discovered under this micelle microenvironment. For the $S_2\;{\rightarrow}\;S_o$ emission, the quantum yields increase but the quantum yield of the $S_1\;{\rightarrow}\;S_o$ emission approximately decreases as the water concentration in the micelle increases.

제주도 해안과 산간 지역 대기 에어러솔의 이온조성 비교 (Ionic composition comparison of atmospheric aerosols at coastal and mountainous sites of jeju island)

  • 해안에 위치한 제주도 고산 지역과 산간의 한라산 1100고지 지역에서 대기에어러솔을 채취, 분석한 결과로부터 해안과 산간 지역 대기에어러솔의 이온조성 및 특성을 비교하였다. 이온성분의 농도는 한라산 1100고지보다 고산지역에서 더 높고, 월별로는 $NH_4^+$, nss-$SO_4^{2-}$(비해염 황산)이 6월에 두 지역에서 동시에 높은 농도를 나타내었다. 토양기원의 nss-$Ca^{2+}$(비해염 칼슘)은 인위적 기원의 $NO_3^-$과 상관성이 비교적 크며 봄철에 높은 농도를 나타내었다. 두 지역에서 각 이온들의 시계열 변화를 비교하고 회귀분석을 통해 성분들 간의 상관성을 조사해 본 결과, TSP(총부유분진)의 이온성분은 고산지역에서 해염입자의 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 nss-$SO_4^{2-}$, $NH_4^+$, nss-$Ca^{2+}$, $K^+$, $NO_3^-$의 농도는 국지오염원보다는 장거리 이동한 대기오염물질의 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 조사되었다.

제주도 고산지역의 라돈 및 TSP 에어로졸 농도 특성: 2001~2004년 측정 (Radon and TSP Concentrations in the Ambient Air of Gosan Area, Jeiu Island between 2001 and 2004)

  • The real-time monitoring of radon ($^{222}Rn$) concentrations has been carried out to evaluate its ambient background concentration levels in Gosan site, Jeju Island between January 2001 and December 2004. In addition, the atmospheric TSP aerosols have been sampled, and their ionic and metallic components were analyzed to understand the characteristics of air pollution. The mean concentration of radon was $3,121{\pm}1,627\;mBq/m^3$, and the seasonal mean concentrations for spring, summer, fall and winter seasons were 2,898, 2,398, 3,571 and $3,646\;mBq/m^3$, respectively, The hourly concentrations have shown the highest value at 7 a.m. and the lowest value at 2 p.m. From the backward trajectory analyses, the radon concentrations have increased, when the air parcels were moved from the Chinese continent to Jeju area. On the other hand, they have decreased, when the air parcels from the North Pacific Ocean. In the analytical results of ionic species and metal elements of TSP aerosols, the concentrations of $nss-{SO_4}^{2-}$ and S were higher in June and March. Meanwhile, the concentrations of other anthropogenic species as well as soil components were mostly higher in March and April. On the basis of factor analysis, the TSP aerosols at Gosan area were largely influenced by soil sources, followed by anthropogenic sources and marine sources. From the result of backward trajectory analyses, the concentrations of $nss-{SO_4}^{2-},\;{NO_3}^-$, Al and Ca were mostly higher, when the air parcels moved from Chinese continent to Jeju area. On the other hand, their concentrations were lower, when the air parcels drifted from the North Pacific Ocean.

ICP-AES에서 에어로졸의 광산란에 의한 신호의 보정 (Signal compensation by the light scattering of sample aerosols in ICP-AES)

  • 시료 에어로졸에 의한 광산란 신호를 이용하여 ICP 분석신호를 보정하였다. 자체 제작한 초음파 분무기에서 발생되는 에어로졸에 대하여 다이오드나 He-Ne 레이저를 사용하여 광산란신호를 얻고 이를 기준으로 하여 분석신호의 변동에 대하여 보정하였다. 그 결과 Be, Pb 및 Co의 경우에 short-term (1분 이하)에 대한 신호의 RSD가 기존의 평균 3.4% 에서 0.9% RSD 이하로 큰 개선이 되었으며, 10분 정도의 long-term안정도는 14.9%에서 4.2%로 개선되었다. 이 방법은 펄스형태의 시료도입뿐 아니라 연속적 분무에서도 분무기의 안정성이 부족한 경우, 정밀도의 개선에 매우 유용하다. Long-term의 안정도 개선을 위해서는 광산란셀에서의 안정도 및 검출기의 잡음개선과 분무장치와 플라즈마 사이에서의 에어로졸 응축등에 의한 잡음의 개선이 필요한 것으로 보인다.

Source Identification and Quantification of Coarse and Fine Particles by TTFA and PMF

  • Receptor modeling is one of statistical methods to achieve reasonable air pollution strategies. In order to maintain and manage ambient air quality, it is necessary to identify sources and to apportion its sources for ambient particulate matters. The main purpose of the study was to survey seasonal trends of inorganic elements in the coarse and fine particles. Second, this study has attempted emission sources qualitatively by a receptor method, the PMF mo-del. After that. both PMF (positive matrix factorization) model and TTFA (target transformation factor analysis) model were applied to compare and to estimate mass contribution of coarse and fine particle sources at the receptor. A total of 138 sets of samples was collected from 1989 to 1996 by a low volume cascade impactor with 9 size fraction stages at Kyung Hee University in Korea. Sixteen chemical species (Si, Ca, Fe, K, Pb, Na, Zn, Mg, Ba, Ni, V, Mn, Cr, Br, Cu. Co) were characterized by XRF. The study result showed that the weighted arithmetic mean of coarse and fine particles were 51.3 and 54.4 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively. Contribution of both particle fractions were esti-mated using TTFA and PMF models. The number of estimated sources was seven according to TTFA model and 8 according to PMF model. Comparison of TTFA and PMF revealed that both methodologies exhibited similar trends in their contribution pattern. However, large differences between contributions were observed in some sour-ces. The results of this study may help to suggest control strategies in local countries where known source profiles do not exist.

미국 서북부 Cheeka Peak에서의 수송에 따른 봄철 CO와 O3의 특성 (Characteristics of Springtime CO and O3 according to Transport at Cheeka Peak Observatory(CPO), Northwest of USA)

  • Cheeka Peak is a unique site for monitoring the background chemistry and aerosol contents of pristine marine air at mid-latitude. During long-range onshore winds that occur frequently throughout the year, it is predicted to have the cleanest air in the northern hemisphere. Measurements of CO and O$_3$were conducted at Cheeka Peak Observatory(CPO) on the northwestern tip of Washington state, USA during March 6 ∼May 29, 2001. The data have been segregated to quantify the mixing ratio of these species in the Pacific marine atmosphere. Also the marine air masses were further classified into four categories based on 10-day backward isentropic trajectories; high, mid, and low latitude and those which had crossed over the Asian industrial region. The diurnal variation of CO and O$_3$at CPO showed a similar to tendency of background measurement site. When marine air mass flowed to CPO, CO concentration was lower and O$_3$was similar or higher than those of total data. The westerly flow from ocean, not easterly from continent occurred the high concentration of CO and O$_3$at CPO. Using the trajectory segregation of marine air mass, the comparison of concentration according to latitude calculated. the CO concentration of Asian trajectory was lower than other latitudes, O$_3$concentration was higher.

경험식을 이용한 발원지 황사의 시간별 발생량 추정 (Estimation of Hourly Emission Flux of Asian Dust Using Empirical Formulas in the Source Area)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate hourly Asian dust emission flux in springtime by using the optimized Weather Research Forecasting model (WRF) in order to accurately predict the horizontal flux of Asian dusts. Asian dust emission flux using 5 empirical formulas such as US EPA, Park and Inn, Wang, The Goddard Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport (GOCART) and Dust Entrainment and Deposition (DEAD) were calculated and compared by using classified land-use types and size distribution at various locations in China and Mongolia together with the hourly meteorological elements of the WRF model. As a result, the empirical formula in US EPA among them, which was considered the various conditions such as vegetation, soil type and terrain, was better than the other 4 empirical formulas. However, these formulas were adjusted hourly and vertically in time and space because there was different order and time resolution of dust emissions from original empirical formulas.

SUMMARY OF THE RESULTS FROM THE PHEBUS FPT-1 TEST FOR A SEVERE ACCIDENT AND THE LESSONS LEARNED WITH MELCOR

  • The objectives of this paper are twofold to summarize the new findings and confirmed results from the Phebus FPT-1 experimental data and to report useful information to MELCOR users regarding the better use of MELCOR. For the core damage behavior, the early stage of a melt progression was predicted well; however, the late phase models, concerned with fuel dissolution, oxide cladding failure, fuel slumping, rubble debris heat up, effects of burn-up fuel, and so on, still showed limitations in MELCOR. For the fission product behavior, the comparison showed unexpected phenomena, various limitations, unresolved issues, and even absence of models. The issues summarized in this study have revealed the main areas where our endeavors need to be intensified in order to improve our understanding of severe accident phenomena. From the analysis of the Phebus FPT-1 test results, not only new core damage features, such as foaming or core expansion, but also possible new fission product release patterns due to effects from a high burn-up fuel have raised alternative challenging phenomena that should be solved in the next severe accident research phase.
