An axisymmetric supersonic jet is simulated at a Mach number 2.1 and a Reynolds numberof 70000 to identify the mechanism of Mach wave generation and radiation from the jet. In orderto provide the near-field radiated sound directly and resolve the large-scale vortices highly.high-resolution essentially non-oscillatory(ENO) scheme, which is one of the ComputationalAeroAcoustics(CAA) techniques, is newly employed. Perfectly expanded supersonic jet is selectedas a target to see pure shear layer growth and Mach wave radiation without effect of change injet cross section due to expansion or shock wave generated at nozzle exit. The sound field ishighly directional and dominated by Mach waves generated near the end of potential core. Thenear field sound pressure levels as well as the aerodynamic properties of the jet, such asmean-flow parameters are in fare agreement with experimental data.
TIn this study, the counter-jet flows which designed for improvement of aerodynamic performance of the blunt body vehicle have been analyzed. The variations of the drag force and jet penetration depth due to changes in the stagnation properties of counter jet new such as total pressure, mach number, and total temperature. The counter jet flow, which is injected toward incoming supersonic freestream at stagnation region of blunt cone-cylinder vehicle, have been studied by using upwind flux difference splitting navier-stokes method. The changes in the stagnation pressure and Mach number resulted in large effects on the wall pressure and drag force, on the other hand tile total temperature changes did not.
This paper describes the structural design and testing for 1.5kW class wind turbine composite blade. In order to calculate the equivalent material properties rule-of-mixture is applied. Lay-up sequence, ply thickness and ply angle are designed to satisfy the requirements for structural integrity. Structural analysis by using commercial software ABAQUS is performed to assess the static, buckling and vibration response. And to verify the structural analysis and design, the full scale structural test in flapwise direction was performed under single point loading according to loading conditions calculated by the aerodynamic analysis and Case H (Parked wind loading) in IEC 61400-2.
In order for a gun-launched guided projectile to glide to the maximum range, when to deploy the fin and start flight with guidance and control should be considered in range optimization process. This study suggests a solution to the optimal guidance problem for flight range maximization of the flight model of a guided projectile in vertical plane considering the aerodynamic properties. After converting the nonlinear Multi-Phase Optimal Control Problem to Two-Point Boundary Value Problem, the optimized guidance command and the best fin deployment timing are calculated by the proposed numerical method. The optimization results of the multiple flight rounds with various initial velocity and launch angle indicate that determining specific launch condition incorporated with the guidance scheme is of importance in terms of mechanical energy consumption.
This paper presents the structural model verification process of whole wind turbine blade including blade model which proposed in Part1 paper. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available is used for the study. In the Part1 of this paper, the processes of structural model development and verification process of blade only are introduced. The whole wind turbine composed by blade, rotor, nacelle and tower. Even though NREL has reported the measured values, the material properties of blade and machinery parts are not clear but should be tested. Compared with the other parts, the tower which made by steel pipe is rather simple. Since it does not need any considerations. By the help of simple eigen-value analysis, the accuracy of structural stiffness and mass value of whole wind turbine system was verified by comparing with NREL's reported value. NREL has reported the natural frequency of blade, whole turbine, turbine without blade and tower only models. According to the comparative studies, the proposed material and mass properties are within acceptable range, but need to be discussing in future studies, because our material properties of blade does not match with NREL's measured values.
An experimental study of compressible jet flows has been undertaken in a small transonic wind tunnel. The aim of this investigation was to realize a jet simulator in the framework of wing/nacelle integration research and to characterize the jet flow behavior. First, free jet configuration, and subsequently jet flow in co-flowing air stream configuration were analyzed. Flow conditions were those encountered in a typical flight condition of a generic transport aircraft, i.e. fully expanded sonic jet flows interacting with a compressible external flowfield. Conventional experimental techniques were used to investigate the jet flows-Schlieren visualization and two-component Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV). The mean and fluctuating properties were measured along the jet centerline and in the symmetric plane at various downstream locations. The results of two configurations show remarkable differences in the mean and fluctuating components and agree well with the trend observed by other investigators. Moreover, these experiments enrich the database for such flow conditions and verify the feasibility of its application in future aerodynamic research of wing/nacelle interactions.
Once the condensation of water vapor in moist air around a thin airfoil occurs, liquid droplets nucleate. The condensation process releases heat to the surrounding gaseous components of moist air and significantly affects their thermodynamic and flow properties. As a results, variations in the aerodynamic performance of airfoils can be found. In the present work, the effects of upstream Mach number and thickness ratio of airfoil on the transonic flow of moist air around a thin airfoil are investigated by numerical analysis. The results shows that a significant condensation occurs as the upstream Mach number is increased at the fixed thickness ratio of airfoil($\epsilon$=0.12) and as the thickness ratio of airfoil is increased at the fixed upstream Mach number($M_{\infty}$=0.80). The condensate mass fraction is also increased and dispersed widely around an airfoil as the upstream Mach number and thickness ratio of airfoil are increased. The position of shock wave for moist air flow move toward the leading edge of airfoil when it is compared with the position of shock wave for dry air.
