The development and interaction of vortices over a delta wing with leading edge extension (LEX) was investigated through off-surface flow visualization using micro water droplets and a laser beam sheet. Angles of attack of $20^{\circ}$ and 24$^{\circ}$ were tested at sideslip angles of $0^{\circ}$, $-5^{\circ}$, and $-10^{\circ}$ The flow Reynolds number based on the main-wing root chord was $1.82{\times}10^{5}$. The wing vortex and the LEX vortex coiled around each other while maintaining comparable strength and identity at a zero sideslip. The increase of angle of attack intensified the coiling and shifted the cores of the wing and LEX vortices inboard and upward. By sideslip, the coiling, the merging and the diffusion of the wing and LEX vortices were increased on the windward side, whereas they were delayed significantly on the leeward side. The present study confirmed that the sideslip angle had a profound effect on the vortex structure and interaction of a delta wing with LEX, which characterized the vortex-induced aerodynamic load.

In this work, 1 MW class horizontal axis wind turbine blade configuration is properly sized and analyzed using the newly proposed aerodynamic design procedure and the in-house code developed by authors, and its design results are verified through comparison with experimental results of previously developed wind turbine blade. The structural design of the wind turbine blade is carried out using a composite materials and the netting and rule of mixture deign methods. The structural safety of the designed blade structure is investigated through the various load cases, stress, deformation, buckling and vibration analyses using the commercial FEM code, MSC.NASTRAN. Finally the required fatigue life is investigated using the modified Spera's experimental equation.

The repetitive vibrating action of an aerodynamic load causes an external fuel tank's horizontal fin to experience a shorter life cycle than its originally predicted one. Store separation analysis is needed to redesign the fin of an external fuel tank. In this research, free-drop tests were conducted using 15% scaled models in a subsonic wind tunnel in order to analyze the store separation characteristics of an external fuel tank. The store separation trajectory based on grid tests was also obtained to verify the results of the free-drop tests. The results acquired from the free-drop tests correlated well with the grid tests in regards to the trajectories and behavior of the stores separated from the aircraft. This agreement was especially noted in the early stages of the store separation.

In this study, nonlinear static aeroelastic analysis system for a high-aspect-ratio wing are developed using the transonic small disturbance (TSD) and large deflection beam theory and validated. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of displacement from the structural mesh to aerodynamic one is performed by the shape function of the beam finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load concept. Also, for the static aeroelastic analysis of the wing the use of TSD aerodynamics are justified. The validation of the system includes one of the efficient transformation methods of force and displacement.

Divert and attitude control system(DACS) plays an important role for orbit transfer and attitude control, and therefore becomes important subject for recent space vehicle and Precision Guided Missile(PGM) development. To develop DACS system, main research areas include shape combination of pintle and nozzle to maximize thrust change, and reduction of aerodynamic pintle load to minimizle pintle driving force, and development of multi-axis control algorithm. In this paper, introduction, classification, and overseas/domestic research and development program, and prospects of DACS are reviewed and summarized.
Mean and extreme pressure distributions on a large cantilevered flat roof model are measured in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The largest peak suction values are observed from pressure taps beneath conical "delta-wing type" corner vortices that occur for oblique winds, then the characteristics and causes of the local peak suctions are discussed in detail. Power spectra of fluctuating wind pressures measured from some typical taps located at the roof edges under different wind directions are presented, and coherence functions of fluctuating pressures are also obtained. Based on these results, it is verified that the peak suctions are highly correlated with the conical vortices. Furthermore, according to the characteristics of wind loads on the roof, an aerodynamic solution to minimize the peak suctions by venting the leading edges and the corners of the roof is recommended. The experimental results show that the suggested strategy can effectively control the generation of the conical vortices and make a reduction of 50% in mean pressures and 25% in extreme local pressures at wind sensitive locations on the roof.

The joined-wing is a new concept of the airplane wing. The fore-wing and the aft-wing arc joined together in the joined-wing. The range and loiter are longer than those of a conventional wing. The joined-wing can lead to increased aerodynamic performances and reduction of the structural weight. The structural behavior of the joined-wing has a high geometric nonlinearity according to the external loads. The gust loads are the most critical loading conditions in the structural design of the joined-wing. The nonlinear behavior should be considered in the optimization of the joined-wing. It is well known that conventional nonlinear response optimization is extremely expensive: therefore, the conventional method is almost impossible to use in large scale structures such as the joined-wing. In this research, geometric nonlinear response structural optimization is carried out using equivalent loads. Equivalent loads are the load sets which generate the same response field in linear analysis as that from nonlinear analysis. In the equivalent loads method, the external loads are transformed to the equivalent loads (EL) for linear static analysis, and linear response optimization is carried out based on the EL.

A numerical flow analysis has been performed on the partial admission turbine of KARI turbopump to support the aerodynamic and structural dynamic assessments. The flow-field in a partial admission turbine is essentially three dimensional and unsteady because of a tip clearance and a finite number of nozzles. Therefore the mixing plane method is generally not appropriate. To avoid heavy computational load due to an unsteady three dimensional calculation, a frozen rotor method was implemented in steady calculation. It adopted a rotating frame in the grid block of a rotor blade by adding some source terms in governing equations. Its results were compared with a mixing plane method. The frozen rotor method can detect the variation of flow-field dependent upon the blade's circumferential position relative to the nozzle. It gives a idea of wake loss mechanism starting from the lip of a nozzle. This wake loss was assumed to be one of the most difficult issues in turbine designers. Thus, the frozen rotor approach has proven to be an efficient and robust tool in design of a partial admission turbine.

The initial trajectory of a spheroid configuration bobbin for precision guidance has been investigated by analyzing its aerodynamic load and six-degree-of-freedom motion. The effects of changes in the spheroidal head configuration, flow angle and lateral center-of-gravity offset are numerically studied using the commercial software "FLUENT". A wind tunnel test is also conducted to validate the numerical scheme and to examine effect of the Reynolds number on the flow around the bobbin. It is shown that the size of the separation bubble formed on the surface decreases significantly when the Reynolds number is varied between 110,000 and 140,000. At a zero flow angle, an oblate spheroidal head shows relatively moderate rotation while a prolate spheroidal head shows rapid rotation. The bobbin with a spherical head shape has little effect on the flow direction; however, the oblate bobbin is sensitive to the flow angle. The roll motion of the bobbin is greatly influenced by the lateral center-of-gravity offset and maximum dispersion is observed at half of the radius.
As fuel cell system is environmental friendly generator, its performance depends on its air supply system. Because, fuel cell stack generates electrical energy by electron and the electron is generated by reacting between air and hydrogen. So, more and more compressed air is supplied, more and more the energy can be obtained. In this study, turbo-expander supported by air foil bearing is introduced as the air supply system used by fuel cell systems. The turbo-expander is a turbo machine which operates at high speed, so air foil bearings suit its purpose for the bearing elements. Analysis for confirming the stability and endurance is conducted. Based on FDM and Newton-Raphson method, characteristics of air foil bearing, dynamic coefficients, pressure field and load capacity, are obtained. Using the characteristics of air foil bearing, the rotordynamic analysis is performed by finite element method. The analysis (stability analysis and critical speed map) shows that turbo-expander is stability at running speed. After the analysis, the test process and results are presented. The goals of test are running up to 90,000 RPM, flow rate of 150 $m^3/h$ and pressure ratio of 1.15. The test results show that the aerodynamic performance and stability of turbo-expander are satisfied to the primary goals.
