  • The aerial parts of Ephedra aphylla afforded two alkaloids belonging to two different classes. The first alkaloid, ephedradine C, belonging to the spermine alkaloid, a group characterized by its hypotensive effect. The other alkaloid, hordenine is a phenylalkylamine alkaloid isolated for the first time from Ephedra Species. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and the assignment of some carbons in ephedradine C was achieved based on 2 D-NMR experiments.

  • A lignan and four flavonoid derivatives were isolated from the aerial parts of Panicum dichotomiflorum Michaux (Gramineae) through repeated column chromatography. Their chemical structures were identified as (-)-pinoresinol (1), tricin (2), luteolin (3), luteolin-4'-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosde (4) and luteolin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosde (5), respectively, by spectroscopic analysis. These compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant.

  • Four thymol derivatives, 2,5-dimethoxythymol (1), 2-methoxythymol isobutyrate (2), 10-isobutyloxy-8,9-epoxythymolisobutyrate (3) and 10-(2-methylbutyloxy)-8,9-eposythymolisobutyrate (4) were isolated from the aerial parts of Carpesium divaricatum. the structures were elucidated by high field 1D and 2D NMR techniques.

  • The phytochemical study of the aerial parts of Artemisia japonica ssp. littoricola (Asteraceae) led to the isolation of two acetylenic compounds, (3R)-dehydrofalcarinol (2) and (3R)-dehydrofalcarindiol (6), two sesquiterpenes, $1{\beta}$, $6{\alpha}$-dihydroxy-4(15)-eudesmene (5) and oplodiol (8), and four phenolic compounds, eugenol (1), vanillin (3), 3'-methoxy-4'- hydroxy-trrans-cinnamaldehyde (4) and p-hydroxyacetophenone (7). Their structures were determined by chemical and spectroscopic methods.
