  • This paper describes a new approach that can extract the relative shift vectors between two aerial image sequences for implementing the visual navigation system. This method minimizes the noise included in the aircraft attitude information that represents the changes of the aircraft attitude using the statistical method and Kalman Filtering method. This result can be used to find the relative shift vectors which are independent of the attitude changes indicating the true trajectories of aircraft. We applied this method to the image about which we had already known the information of aircraft attitude, and that result showed that the errors were minimized successfully.

  • This paper describes the design optimization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs). An optimization framework has been developed and implemented for the conceptual design of UAVs. An integrated design analysis program was developed with several analysis modules such as propulsion, performance, mission, weight, and stability and control. A UAV configuration design optimization was performed by implementing the integrated analysis to enhance the endurance of UAVs. A SQP optimizer was utilized to build an optimization module for this program and sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the trends of shape variables for developing optimization objective. In conclusion, the results indicate that the resulting optimized UAVs configurations show performance improvements over the baseline design and reliable analysis results.

  • Quadrotor is an aircraft which is possible in Vertical Take-off and Landing(VTOL). This aircraft can not only be created as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV), but also can be easily used in various fields because of its simplicity of construction. This study is mainly conducted with two main purposes. The first goal is designing the quadrotor focusing on the lightweight and protecting the airframe. The second purpose is stabilizing the quadrotor's attitude by using the PID controller. MATLAB simulation is performed for obtaining PID gain based on equations of motion. We used the compensation filter technique for the calibration of sensor data. PID gain has been drawn out based on the MATLAB simulation. The efficiency of the attitude control is improved by calibration of sensor data.

  • This paper describes a method for recognition of two-dimensional position of an object by use of aerial ultra-sonic sensor and signal processing technique, which would become a help for blind person or self-mobile robot. First, we have developed a method for measuring the time difference between the transmitted and the received burst wave by use of one ultrasonic transmitter and three receivers. Secondly, a new method is developed for measuring the distance to an object by use of M-sequence correlation method. Thirdly, a measurement method to obtain the position of an object is described by use of phase-arrayed ultrasonic sensor, which gives us a wide-range position determination in a short time.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been considered as valuable aerial reconnaissance systems and our army wants capability-enhanced UAVs installed in our territory, hoping that the UAVs will provide enemy information in detail. The enemy information acqcuired by UAVs would be shared by our army's legacy systems. In this article, we made a research on the interoperability between UAVs and Ground Fighting Vehicles (GFVs), laying emphasis on what kinds of tactical information could be exchanged by two different weapon systems. Also, it needs to be addressed that their upper-level commanding systems play a significant role in such operation.

  • This paper proposes an operating system architecture for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which is secure against root exploit, resilient to connection loss resulting in the control loss, and able to utilize common applications used in Linux. The Linux-based UAVs are exposed to root exploit. On the other hand, the microkernel-based UAVs are not able to use the common applications utilized in Linux, even though which is secure against root exploit. For this reason, the proposed architecture uses a virtualized microkernel on the Linux operating system to isolate communication roles and prevent root exploit. As a result, the suggested Operating system is secure against root exploit and is able to utilize the common applications at the same time.

  • Aiming at the optimal placement of communication relay nodes (OPCRN) problem in manned/unmanned aerial vehicle cooperative engagement system, this paper designed a kind of fully connected broadband backbone communication topology. Firstly, problem description of OPCRN was given. Secondly, based on problem analysis, the element attributes and decision variables were defined, and a bi-level programming model including physical layer and logical layer was established. Thirdly, a hierarchical artificial bee colony (HABC) algorithm was adopted to solve the model. Finally, multiple sets of simulation experiments were carried out to prove the effectiveness and superiority of the algorithm.

  • Currently, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is spreading from recreational purposes to the public- and commercial-use product areas. Various efforts are being made worldwide to ensure the safety of UAVs and expand their service applications and convenience, because autonomous flights are becoming increasingly popular. In order for a UAV to perform autonomous flight and mission without operator assistance, environmental perception technology, path planning technology, and flight control technology are needed. In this article, we present recent trends in these technologies.

  • Autonomous driving of unmanned aerial vehicles may have to pay expensive cost to create and switch new routes if unexpected obstacles exist or local map updates occured by the control system due to incorrect route information. Integrating digital twins into the path-following process requires more computing resources to quickly switch the wrong path to an alternative path, but it can quickly update the path during flight. In this study, we design a DEVS-based simulation environment which can modify optimized paths through short-term simulation of multi-virtual UAVs for applying digital twin concepts to path follow. Through simulation, we confirmed the possibility of increasing the mission stability of UAV.
